The 2011 FE570S has the biggest piece of junk headlamp I've ever had on a bike. First, it was too weak to see with at night, so the dealer gave me two 60 watt bulbs. That was better, but not great. Now, I've blown two bulbs while riding on rough off road sections. On blown bulb just folded its fillament wires over on themselves and shorted out internally. The second bulb (a 60 watt) lost contact on the post because the solder was too thin and depressed enough to lose contact, and another blown fuse. Finally, the battery was low, so I let the bike idle for 20 minutes in roughly 5 degree weather. Well the plastic lens began to melt and is now crazed in the corner and the rear where the headlamp socket snaps into place is deformed and I can hardly get the bulb in or out now. What a piece of crap. I love the rest of the bike, but this headlamp is embarassing. I'm going to call the dealer again and see what he offers me.

It is there to make it legal and not add weight. You are not expected to actually use it. Just as you are not expected to use the rear fender and crazy tall gearing. The X2 halogen DOT or HID seems to be the best option.

Either way, it's not good for any single cylinder to idle longer than a few minutes.
The oil flow is too slow at idle to lube everything properly.
I think you need to look into HID lighting. Off road, a bright led helmet light is the way to go.

the lights on pretty much all enduro bikes are there so that people can see you more than so you can see where your going.
all OEM ones are pretty much the same no matter what make of bike you have, why do you think that those of us who ride at night very often had either additional or upgraded lights.
At a bit of a loss why you'd think leaving the bike running for 20 mins with the lights on to charge the battery was the way to go.

First, the bike was left idling with the light on because there is no way to shut the light off with the bike running. The law has required the headlamp stay lit while the bike is running since 1974 on strreet bikes in California; in fact, I think that is when the requirement came into effect for the whole US.
Next, leaving the bike idling, well, with no load on the engine, and in cool weather without any chance of overheating, the idling is no problem. I do have a 1967 Honda CB 450 that you don't want to leave idling because it doesn't lube the top end well at idle, but on more modern bikes, it is no big issue.
Now, the Husaberg headlamp is not the norm or the industry standard. My friend has the new Husqavarna TE310, and his headlamp is an all glass unit that works fine. Putting a higher wattage bulb in his unit would be no big deal, and I notice that in Europe, Husaberg uses the same exact set up on the FFE570S. Why did the American issue bikes get the crappy plastic one. In California, I don't think the factory headlamp is even leagal at 35 watts. If I'm not mistaken, the low limit for a street legal vehicle headlamp if 55 watts. I could be wrong on that, but the norm is a 55/65 watt headlamp bulb.
And the Trail Tech X2 HID is where I'm headed, but I've already modded the heck out of this bike to the tune of around $1700. I needed to wait a while to buy the Trail Tech unit. It is just ticking me off that such a great bike that is fairly expensive to purchase has such a crappy headlamp.
Since my bike is still under warranty, I'm going to ask the dealer if they will give me a credit for the cost of replacing the stock unit towards the purchase of a Trail Tech X2 HID. That will solve the problem, but my point is that the problem should not be a problem at all, I mean seriously, who puts a junk piece like that on a high quality bike like the Husaberg? Before you invest in the HIDs, better make dead level certain that they're street legal in your state. I'd be astounded if they were legal in Kalifornia.
Yeah, HID's aren't legal here in the socialist state of California, but I'm gonna take my chances on this one. I doubt too many of the enforcement officials even know what an HID lamp is, much less how to check for them. I might be sorry, but it's a risk I'm willing/gonna to take for a good headlamp.
Thanks for the advice though. You are right, they aren't legal here. I'm gonna be a scofflaw though and try to get away with it. Besides, it would just be a fix-it citation and I'll still have the factory piece of crap to remount and have the citation signed off if I did get caught anyway. :mrgreen:

regarding "street legal". The laws are to protect oncomming traffic. I have spoken with two police officers on this subject.. the first one volunteered the info and said that if he owned my bike he would definately put several non-dot lamps on it to keep from being killed by cars.. the second police officer I asked stated he never looks for non dot lamps on motorcycles at all.. only 4x4 trucks. With the X2 HID, I have had people complain.. on old guy actually got out of his car and ran up to me like he was going to assault me saying I was blinding the back of his head.. (I was wondering if I should turn on the high beam at that point just to piss him off more).
IMO.. my life is worth a ticket or two.. and if you are worried about passing inspection.. just keep your old glow lamp for yearly inspections.. go with a tt x2 eclipse hid if you want a real light.

LOL. I believe that is the light for me, and since I actually ride my bike at night and in deer country, I want all the light I can get. I don't like the idea of blinding oncoming cars either, the idea of a driver coming at me at a combined closing speed of 120 MPH plus who can't see where he is headed is a litle disconcerting. I guess I'll have to be sure I adjust it as well as possible. Love the pic of the light in the sun though. Awesome.

Thanks for the info on where to buy the light. :cheers: The price looks right. I have a question though. What is the point of the switch kit that is shown if the light is plug and play? Is that simply an off and on switch for the HID light or is that the controls to the light, and if so what does your factory switch used for after the installation?

I use the factory switch. The switch provided is wired to have both lights on during high beam. So.. low beam.. (spot) hight beam (both).
I simply spliced the low beam to the hot wire, and low beam is on all the time with my stock switch. So.. I like the stock switch better.. its an easy splice.. you can ask me later for the simple procedure or figure it out yourself..

I understand what you did, and how your light is wired. I think I might wire mine through a Rectifying Diode so the high and low beam are both on when the switch is in the high beam position, and only the one is on when in the low beam position. :idea: Glad to know that the factory switch gear can be used though. I wonder if the TT switch has a Rectifying Diode or if it is hard wired for that function :?:
Talk about good stuff. I called the dealer, my bike is still under warranty, and he agreed to warranty the headlamp immediately. I then asked him about credit of headlamp value towards a TT X2HID unit. He agreed, and he subtracted the price of the repalcement headlamp and I'm getting the TT unit at the best price I've seen anywhere. Unfortunately, the value of the stock headlamp isn't much, but it still made the TT unit a bit lower than expected. :bounce3:
By the way, did you have to "Float the Ground" on your stator to install the unit on your bike T_I_G_E_R? The dealer stated that the TT instructions reccomend this. I questioned him about that and figured out he was not talking about the Husaberg specific TT unit but the generic TT unit. When I brought the TT plug and play advertising to his attention for the Husaberg model specific X2 HID units, he was not aware of these units. So, I was wondering if you had to do this with your installation? I'm having them order the Husaberg specific unit.

Brian no I did not have to do anything to the ground.. what is "float the ground mean" anyway. The unit works perfectly right out of the box.. nice and bright.. not a single issue since I installed it.

Those aftermarket hid headlights looks like crap imo. Stock housing flows best with the looks of the bike, but the lighting itself SUCKS!
I retrofitted my previous K6 GSX-R headlight with Lexus RX hid projector and oem 30W ballast using REAL D2s hid bulb.
Well the light output was even better than 320cdi merc bi-xenon low beam. Nice even cutoff and HUGE wide beam. The beam was infact so wide that it showed far beyond the sides of road on both sides. Could spot incoming animals really well in dark.
Gonna do the same to berg but using this time smaller bi-xenon projector and slim 30w ballast and 4300k or 5000k d2s bulb.
Bergs housing is so small that some cutting and trimming might have to be done, but it's far cheaper to mess up than a newish sport bike headlight.
