Re: New 2011 & 2012 Husaberg Motorcycle 55 Watt HID Headligh
Richard, The H7 Based bulb is attached via two screws to a re-Manufactured / Re- machined KTM bulb adapter - The black part that twist locks into the Headlight shell that the stock BA20 base bulb is mounted into.
The rubber cover is taped down to prevent any water damage from rain type ride and washing the bike - Use lots of common sense with water application to the area with so many electrical connections. If you take it off, or if the tape comes off for any reason, take it off, clean it up a bit with something like rubbing alcohol and re seal with High quality tape. - I use the Gorilla Brand Black Duct Tape.
Both HID & Halogen bulbs respond very poorly to any water or moisture drops on the bulb, yet they still need to have ventilation which is why I did not tape & caulk the wire penetrations at the rear of the rubber cap in an attempt to totally seal the system.
As far as where to get parts, there is a part of me that would say - Get them from me, but in truth these are open source designs, and the Overall Performance of the Headlight and total value in the Kit is what makes them cool. So that being said - Any H7 HID bulb that has the correct style of lead will plug right in, I used ones marked 55 W, yet I suspect any HID marked even one marked 35W will function just as well should you find yourself in a pinch.
There are many online resellers of H7 HID bulbs, and Just avoid the HI / Lo beam style that have an electronic magnet adjustment as they are much to long to accommodate the proper clearance to the Steering Stem Housing. Not that they will not work, yet require three extra steps currently not needed.
These are:
#1 Extra power loop to ground with switch to control Hi Lo function –
#2 Relocation of a new set of the lower mount pins 1.5 " forward of existing Pins -
#3 Making relocating straps out of thin flat Aluminum or plastic that relocate the rubber mount straps 1.5" to the rear so stock rubber straps will function.
If you are considering carrying a spare for long trip / Trail Work , I might also suggest Getting an inexpensive Wal-Mart or Napa 55-100 watt H7 Halogen bulb, and make up the wires to match the ones that plug in to the power supply for the Ballast, Then you would have a Light bulb that adapts to H7 base and by passes a potentially failed electronic device on the trail This is just something I would do , Say if I was going to make a Rip To The Tip down Baja Calaifroinia.
