Okay Christmass came today and the headlight and led tail light came in the mail. I installed the headlight.. adjusted it up up up and viola.. a focused lazer beam lights my way now.. and it looks stock.. WAY TO GO great product

Thanks Richard, I really Pleased you like it. So You noticed I had the adjustment pointed at the front fender. I guess I wanted folks to know exactly how far they were going to be adjusting their headlight aim point down the road. Have you had a chance to compare it to your buddies TrailTech X2, The X2 overall range is kind of Puny when seen side by side, It uses all of it light in a big puddle in front of the bike, Now you see what I mean in that it utilizes the available Light very effectively. Have fun and Enjoy. Paul

ps: If you ever want to do a night race or just want to mess around - You can always put the Xenon 55 watt HID heavy weight non compact ballast on there - but then it really starts to do interesting things to the headlight reflector shell - lots of softened plastic and bubbling shining stuff - I have been testing this on my bikes as well. Not real comfortable selling them but I will tell folks about them and then after they see just what is what , and maybe want to Race at night - the Large Xenon ballast really Light it up, and unfortunately ups the heat

Re: New 2011 & 2012 Husaberg Motorcycle 55 Watt HID Headligh

the light basically casts three beams arranged in a delta shape or pyrmaid shape (like the inverted v you mentioned) the beams of light are considerably brighter than the trailtech x2 hid. One question I have I noted the rubber seal is taped on so I did not remove that but I was wondering how the bulb is attached to the reflector and where to get replacement bulbs?

Re: New 2011 & 2012 Husaberg Motorcycle 55 Watt HID Headligh

Richard, The H7 Based bulb is attached via two screws to a re-Manufactured / Re- machined KTM bulb adapter - The black part that twist locks into the Headlight shell that the stock BA20 base bulb is mounted into.

The rubber cover is taped down to prevent any water damage from rain type ride and washing the bike - Use lots of common sense with water application to the area with so many electrical connections. If you take it off, or if the tape comes off for any reason, take it off, clean it up a bit with something like rubbing alcohol and re seal with High quality tape. - I use the Gorilla Brand Black Duct Tape.

Both HID & Halogen bulbs respond very poorly to any water or moisture drops on the bulb, yet they still need to have ventilation which is why I did not tape & caulk the wire penetrations at the rear of the rubber cap in an attempt to totally seal the system.

As far as where to get parts, there is a part of me that would say - Get them from me, but in truth these are open source designs, and the Overall Performance of the Headlight and total value in the Kit is what makes them cool. So that being said - Any H7 HID bulb that has the correct style of lead will plug right in, I used ones marked 55 W, yet I suspect any HID marked even one marked 35W will function just as well should you find yourself in a pinch.

There are many online resellers of H7 HID bulbs, and Just avoid the HI / Lo beam style that have an electronic magnet adjustment as they are much to long to accommodate the proper clearance to the Steering Stem Housing. Not that they will not work, yet require three extra steps currently not needed.
These are:
#1 Extra power loop to ground with switch to control Hi Lo function –
#2 Relocation of a new set of the lower mount pins 1.5 " forward of existing Pins -
#3 Making relocating straps out of thin flat Aluminum or plastic that relocate the rubber mount straps 1.5" to the rear so stock rubber straps will function.

If you are considering carrying a spare for long trip / Trail Work , I might also suggest Getting an inexpensive Wal-Mart or Napa 55-100 watt H7 Halogen bulb, and make up the wires to match the ones that plug in to the power supply for the Ballast, Then you would have a Light bulb that adapts to H7 base and by passes a potentially failed electronic device on the trail This is just something I would do , Say if I was going to make a Rip To The Tip down Baja Calaifroinia.

Paul, you should make up a website with paypal like mine www.tigertackle.com I dont sell alot of plugs on the site, so this is not a plug for my PLUG site.. no punn intended.. just an example of what you can do with microsoft expression web and a cheap webhosting co. like godaddy and paypal. Let us know if you come out with any more good products and thanks ... ride safe

Paul, any chance you know the weight difference between yours and the X2 HId? All the stuff I added to make my FX sort of street legal makes a heavy machine even heavier. How about packaging, any more room for all the wiring than there is on the X2?

The TrailTechh X2HID with straps weighs in at 2.5 lbs,- This one that is advertised weighs in at 1.5 lbs with straps & the installation is the same as stock one.
Thanks for your Question, Have a Good Day, Paul

Re: New 2011 & 2012 Husaberg Motorcycle 55 Watt HID Headligh

Lighter weight, longer range and less money. Anybody want my X2?

If I may let me ask the 2nd part of my question a different way since I never had a stock installation. With your light is the stock bracket the holds all the connections nice and tidy still usable as intended without the jury rigging as required by the X2?

Thanks

Sorry, It was late last night when I came in from the shop and checked messages. Your assumption is correct that the wire arrangement required to fit the X2 with the reversed / vertical / bent connector hanger is not required. Depending on how the wires are arranged, it may still fit with the X2 configuration yet I know for positive that it fits as it came from the Factory.
As a side note, my personal bike is no longer stock in regards to wiring, different Lighting control switch, map switch and cutoff switch (think I sent you a picture) - And due to testing many different Headlights, Including the X2 HID, I have my wiring arranged in a fashion that allows both styles to work, a little threading of the rubber straps is required, but other than that inconvenience, they all mount fine. Will it work with my stock fender?

Brady, Not sure if it will or not. I Know if will fit your bike with the front fender from the 2011 FE or FS, as it is just whether or not the front fender brace will cause a clearance issue with the lower edge of the lens as it follows the recess of the front fender design.
Perhaps a few small spacers of maybe 8mm to 10 mm placed on the lower mount pins would provide sufficient clearance for the lens to work with out any interference issues?
If you can take some measurements I could check dimensions and let you know for sure.
Thanks for the question, Paul

Re: New 2011 & 2012 Husaberg Motorcycle 55 Watt HID Headligh

IT will work with the brace removed.. You can purchase a KTM 690 fender that is what husaberg ships 2011 bergs with in USA and is what I have. I also have a 2011 fender blue which I can send you UPS GUY if you want it.

Re: New 2011 & 2012 Husaberg Motorcycle 55 Watt HID Headligh

if yours (soon to be mine) really weighs 1.5lbs that will be great since mine weighs 2lbs 12.8oz averaged 10 times on my lyman digital trigger pull gauge. DaveO here called and wants my X2.

Re: New 2011 & 2012 Husaberg Motorcycle 55 Watt HID Headligh

Just wanted to say publicly what a CLASS act Paul is. Thanks for putting up with me and looking forward to getting the light.

Re: New 2011 & 2012 Husaberg Motorcycle 55 Watt HID Headligh

Please understand this is not a knock at all on the light, this is a service message to anyone with any 09-11 Berg that isn't the street legat 570s or FS570. It does not work with the stock FE/FX fender even with the brace removed.
