Trail Tech Headlamp X2HID

I solved the problem with a Vision X Solstice LED mounted off the top triple clamp and a HDBright HID in the factory light housing. Lots of light for over six months now and entirely trouble free. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, it was almost half the price to install both.

I have to give Kudos to the x2 HID.. for night riding.. its a bit heavy if you are trying to save weight, but if you ride fast in tight single track at night, nothing comes close IMO.. its great..

Trailtech HIDs have a very spotty reliability track record with the ballasts failing frequently. Even if their customer service is good and will replace them, it sucks to lose your light at night.

The best compact and light weight high output headlight that is totally reliable is the Baja Designs Squadron LED. If you are riding on the road you have to combine it with a dimmer or it's too bright.

Hey all, just picked up an '09 fe 570 that came with the HID X2 light. I have read that it is possible to wire the light so both lamps are energized on high. When I called Trail Tech they told me I needed to buy their switch. Has anyone been successful in doing this rewire with the standard aftermarket dual sport switch? Not sure if this is from EE, but I have the same switch on my CRF, it comes with the off/low/high light switch, turn signal, and horn button.

Cheers.

My X2 fits fine but the thing is I an trying make it hi/lo.

I want the low beam to be the big light on the bottom and the high beam to ne the big and small light together. I tried to wire it I came close but no cigar.

I could get the Big light to run on low beam and both to run together on high beam but when I shut it off the low beam stayed on. I had the X2 halogen DOT model with a Baja Designs DS switch and I was able to do this with a jump wire inside the switch.

Right now I have a Tusk DS switch. Does anyone know a wiring trick to make his possible?

The top light lasted for about 1/2 of a ride. The bottom one still works...for now. I dunno if I should send it back and put it back together and sell it or try to make it work. The PITA factor seems pretty high with these things.

Use a rectifier diode. Have a look in my thread and you will see a picture:

If I remember right it's explain in my text as well. Quite easy tbh, a rectifier diode is like a one way valve. When you have high beam on the current goes to both bulbs, when the low beam is on the rectifier diode stops the current to go to the other bulb.
Just ask if you have any questions.

Did you wire the lights directly to the battery? I think the greatest longevity for this type of light would be wiring it directly to the battery then to the switch.

I was able to run the stock light off of the battery. The HID light is out for repairs again. Will the diode rectifier work with an incandescent bulb? Will it work with the X2 HID? I bought a thing that the parts person thought may work and it didn't. It is meant to slow down a turn signal for an HID light after they are switched.

I don't know where I would get the proper rectifier diode. Do auto parts places generally carry them?

Yeah, thanks again. I did some digging to figure what it is and what I'm looking for.

Another option would be to wire one light to the stock switch and the other to the dual sport switch. Anyhow getting closer.

Are you an electrical engineer or something?

Is there a rating for this part.? I am am going to try to purchase one and likely I will nerd the proper rating

Sorry, I looked through my drawers but couldn't find the diode. I installed a Q-170 controller from Skene Design instead so I don't need it anymore.

All I know is that it's used in the brake circuit on boat trailers. It's possible to calculate what you need from the battery and HID spec's, but you need a more knowledgeable person than me for that.

Thanks for all of the help. In the end I picked up a switch from trail tech and had them wire it the way I wanted. It was $30 so probly not all the much more than a diode. I was having trouble finding a diode. I found some micro 1A diodes. I called an electrician friend of mine( who also works on a lot stuff) and asked where to get on. He suggested the source which is where I got the mini diodes.

Anyways to make a short story long the light got sent back to me all fixed up and I hooked it up to the Trail Tech switch.

After my ride on the way home it was dusk. The light is so bright with both of them on I was getting flashed by on coming traffic hi beams. So I shut off the small top light and just ran the large bottom one.
