Not starting fe450

I
two or three things;
Don't keep tapping the end of the shaft because it will bounce the shaft outwards.
you need to bolt the cover on.

as a last resort, put a blob of weld on the end of the sledge key.

Taffy
Is the weld supposed to put inside pressure on the gear itself?

The sledge key is coming off the sledge plate. That can be the only reason. If you hold the shaft with your left thumb and hit the end of the dhaft with a hammer, there is no 'bounce'. if it is a solid bang then the shaft is all the way in and will stay there.

Put it together again and it’s reliably spinning, not every time but pretty consistently. Good for now. I kicked it over a few times and it still worked so i tried with my leg. Stayed pretty much in place throughout. I think i have it in place + the bolts thightened is the winning combo for now. Tommorow i’m gonna look for the waterpump shaft seal. Is it okay if it’s a different one? Like a scooter one w the same dimmensions and it also being a water pump shaft seal?

I had good results with spagg by putting a smaller spring , used spring from wheel bearing seal. And I also tightened small starter gear by holding with pump pliers and using a torque wrench on nut end and tightened to about 40lbs . Starts easy now with button .

Guys im back, finally put it together afzer waiting on some parts and now is the point where i have to start it but have no idea how. Shoot me the tips i’m anxious to start this thing already

first of all your right foot needs to be higher. on a doorstep? the kerb by the road?

Secondly, you need to feel full compression and use the little black lever up on the left handlebar to feed it over top dead centre (TDC). just a little over TDC and then after *....give it the big one!

* only MX boots do the job. even rigger boots and steel toe capped boots etc don't do it like an MX boot does.

I used sport riding over the ankle boots but the sole is still to soft. It actually turned on for a couple of seconde a few times but it would just die immediately. I will eventually have to re check the timing as well as valve clearances just to be sure. I tried using the decomp but it didn’t help much, i’ll just keep trying different methods till something happens and then i’ll try to check all of the important things. If it doesnt turn on over the weekend i’ll pull out the carb and check that…
