Moreys and silver coated big end cage

Just a heads up

the 35mm big end cage is silver plated.

moreys heavy duty oil stabiliser isn't supposed to be used with silver plain bearings as I understand it due to (in) compatibility of the corrosion inhibitors with silver.

the silver coating on the cage is very thin and designed as a sacrificial lubricant.

FWIW the 32mm Big end cage is not silver coated

if you read all that you can appreciate why Taffy thinks oil is boring

FWIW i used moreys at 10% with delo400 changed every 3-4 hrs for 200 hrs, when I flushed out the big end at 200 hrs there was a lot of fine metallic paste in there.

pressed it open, the big end cage is worn out and becasue there is now too much clearence between the cage and the ID of the rod the wear was becomming more rapid. ie the cage rattles around to much.

the ID of the rod, the crankpin and even the rollers themselves are OK, its just the cage starting to break up.

moreys is a great thing but i'm not sure about using it with a silver coated cage I can't say if the cage would have lasted longer without it, i seem to be able to break everything else on the berg except the important bits, main bearings CFB s etc , I can't wear out the piston/ rings/linar ........... most of the things that people have problems with, i just can't break so it must be pretty good stuff.

just wanted to let people know.

oh i found it fascinating! i can read that stuff all day, it's the straight oil chat that's a bore!

it would seem that we need to be more selective about the oils used in a 650 2005 plus? right?

now find me the right oil because although i followed it, it still means copious hours of reading the sides of oil cans in shops.... (joking!")
