husaberg fs 570 "project"

The complete (engine) rebuild is going to cost me around 1300€

Friday ordered 520€parts :
-3 gears
-new camchain
-some gaskets/seals
-new crank bearings
-new filter kit for fuelpump/tank

the pistonkit was 260€:
the carillo rod will be 350-400 depending on customs/shipping;)

And than the wossner pin was +- 15€
And about 90 on the djh cct
Some valve shims from the harley dealer +- 10€

Than I spend another 185€ on suspension
And about 180 on cosmetic stuff handguards/new axles sliders/chain adjuster blocks

Well this got out of hand again:unsure:
Now I got 2 months time to rebuild it and save some money so I can afford to put gas in it:p

I also want to buy some track tyres but I am way over my budget already so maybe the track will have to wait ;)

A 650 question is the IWIS camchain realy that much better???
I can order a stock did camchain for the bike pretty cheap don't know if it's worth spending almost 3x the amount to order an iwis through taffy/ebay (almost 60£ = over 70€ shipping included...) stock did chain only €25.5 through ktm dealer

The 570 build is getting slightly delayed I am expecting the carillo rod to arrive to my shipito adress in the beginning of february... (over 2 months delivery time).
So if the bike gets back together in march that would be nice...
To cold tor ride for the moment anyway -2°c ;)

Hi HusaBELGfs570, where did you buy the cp piston from? Thumper Racing has this piston i think, i wand to buy one from him but what about the custom taxes? Delivery time?

I did not buy cp piston whent with stock...
The connecting rod is carillo it takes about 2 months to get in stock.
But thumper ordered 3 so he would have 2 left in stock ready to go.
The custom Bill will be surprise I will use shipito for the first time and also orderedsome othergoodies in the us that will ship together

I bought the TR piston, you need to pay custom tax but its cheap still to the dollar.
Found the piston better proposed than oem and it ticks along yes

That's warm enough mate! :D

I got the meuasurements of the piston's (the stock one with 233 hours and the new "size 2" one).
And also from the cylinder...

Interesting specs they couldn't measure wear in the cylinder stil 100.00 mm!!!!
at the lower end of the cylinder 0.005 mm oval wear nothing to worry about...
The stock piston that would be 99.95mm according to specs measures 99.92mm (needs replacement).
The new "size 2" piston meausures 99.96mm so it would be a very tight fit....
0.04mm the manual recommends minimum 0.042mm for installing size 2 but what I want to do is install size 2 but with the rings from size 1 (size 2 are realy to big.... ).

Would I risk going this way????

Why use a ''size 2'' piston if your liner has no wear at all? Just put the compression ring in the liner and measure the gap. It should be 0.5-0.8 Then you know what piston-rings to use...

because stupid me already bought a piston before meausuring the cylinder.
The partlist quoted motors above 100 hours piston group 2 and since I have got more than double of that I thought I would need group 2 for sure:rolleyes:
Lesson learned never buy a piston without knowing the specs of the cylinder:mad:

could heat liner and piston to 400F see if the piston drops through

i reckon you'l be fine as long as the ring gap is big enough just don't get it too hot for the first 20 hrs or so

Will try that if I get the cylinder back I thought about installing compression ring from group one (a new one) and oil ring group 2 that came with the new piston but slightly shaved so it's a little shorter the oil scrape ring from group 2 has double amount of holes in it....
The guy who measured my parts said he would buy a smaller piston because I would risk that the motor seizes with to small clearance....
If I do go for a new piston this looks like a good alternative:
Wössner Kolben FÜR Husaberg FE 570 CCM 09 12 NEU Ø99 95 MM | eBay

Or a prox piston is about the same price but maybe a tad heavy'r....
Or go crazy and order a carillo cp piston for 230:rolleyes:

I have bad experience from wossner on other mark engine, mainly piston crown design not too clever and cracked piston as result, did go well though as I caught it in time. you want to make sure its good anyway.
Id take the advice on not go too big, there is no performance upside imo, a bit loose rather if I had to choose. A bit sloppy and it will wear a smidgeon more, but risking it breaking is not worth it. You already know my answer :D

Or your hoping for it to break so you have a reason to fit a big bore kit, that makes complete sense :)

I like the way your thinking that last bit:p
What I would like the most is use the piston I already have
(rebuild is getting way to expensive if I have to buy another piston ), but the manual says for bores from 100.012-100.025 so it realy is to tight fit (100-99.96= only 0.04mm and I need to shorten the rings/use group 1 rings and you need minimium 0.042 clearance....

Well I can try the oven trick and if the piston goes smoothly be carefull the first couple of hours not rev the hell out of it and hope all goes well...
Worst case scenario I have to get big bore kit indeed hahaha:giggle:
Or even worse the valve's are ruined and metal debri all over the engine:eek:

So a five axled job one off head on top, now were talking :D
Four hundreds will likely work, certainly 6-8 hundreds, scuff the cylinder 2 hundreds?
Not sure how thick the nicasil is though...
