Hello everyone. I went up to yesterday and talked to the owner, who advised there definitely will be NO dry camping allowed. He has 37 cabins, enough space for 150 people. Again, there are two (2) national forest campgrounds within a half mile of Harmels.
Just wanted to give a heads up.
Fritz

So, there we have it. Down to Harmels, well equipped for most with camping 1/2 mile away. Probably 10 minutes away from Almont where they have a restaurant and fuel, 15 minutes away from Crested Butte and probably way closer to most of the trails. Or..... The KOA in Gunnison where camping is available with VERY spartan cabins, basically 1 or 2 beds 4 walls, front door and a roof.
I could go either way as I have a trailer I could haul up there (but dont want to).

I really see Harmels as the way to go. I think WE need to put this thing to bed.
Please post your thoughts on this thread. I would like to have this carved in stone by 7/31/11.
As of 8/01/11 I will start collecting your $25 donations (per rider). Said monies going for incidentals with any remaining funds going to the site.

Great! I already have reservations there. The 3 Florida boys will be there. Now to find bike crates....

We've been booked at Harmel's for a couple of months. It looks great, lots to do and the folks there were
very accommodating.

Lets get her going!

1)True
2)True
3)Most likely true, Fritz is the ride master and will have details later.
4) Limited on both counts.

I believe F4 will be a smaller affair similar to F1 and 2.

You can stay wherever you like, but we will base out of Harmels.

I'm still leaning towards a motel in Gunnison as we're traveling light (Subaru WRX and 3-rail trailer) and restaurants and gas stations are easier for us that way.

A couple of questions:

>>> Where are we riding out of? Are we still trailering/hauling to the ride site?
(We are street legal ... but are on Dunlop trials tires ... so a lot of pavement is not a good thing for us)

>>> Is anybody else staying in Gunnison?

>>> In fact, it would be nice to see how many ... are staying where?

>>> What's the gas availability at Harmels?
(You have to haul your own ... correct?)

Thanks! E-Ticket

From my previous experience in the area, most of the trails are in the Crested Butte area. That puts them in much closer proximity to Harmels then Gunnison. Harmels has a restaurant and there is gas and a restaurant in Almont maybe 10 min from Harmels. In the other direction from Harmels is Crested Butte south (about 10 minutes away) that has gas, restaurant and I think a general store. Of course 5 more minutes down the road is Crested Butte with pretty much full amenities. You may consider trailering to most rides, although when I stay in Crested Butte I always ride from there.
Once again Fritz is the ride master. Last time we never really knew where we were going until the day before, and it managed to work out perfectly. Fritz really had it put together well, usually a couple different level rides per day.

One ride I would like to do is the Alpine loop. I have done it 2 different times and it was spectacular. It is a dual sport loop probably 130 miles. Lake City to Silverton to Telluride to Ouray back to Lake City.

As I said in an earlier post.I have a 200 gal fuel container we can put at Harmels.Just have to figure out who wants to pay to fill it up!

Anybody need a ride from Southern California? Let me know.
How about A map that shows where everyone is coming from. Except Tuts Don't think he knows.

My Borther and I are almost in. I emailed Harmels and got a return email that they have room at the Inn. I will call them tomorrow. As I said my brother will be coming with his Honda. Don't hate on him too much
Thanks!
Tim

Ok Harmels it is.

I will start another thread for information on sign ups as well as an official sign up list.

yeah that Tuts is an idiot.
i get confused with him sometime but i'm tuts and he's Tuts.

as far as where i'm from, thats easy....my mom's womb, spent about 9 months there if i remember correctly.
was hard to count being so young and not have fingers and toes developed yet to count or even grab the coat hanger that kept trying to do me in....to this day i cant see someone scooping out some icecream without having flashbacks. if my eyes didnt glow red, i might have been done in. i have tattoos of teardrops shaped like coathangers on my left eye for my 'lost' brother. there was three of us in there, three identical tutss. the other remaining one, i engulfed [dont know the medical term but i just took some meds so it might come to me] the other one. i have a lump on the back of my neck with his shoulder and some teeth. they wanted to remove it but i said no way. to the victor goes the spoils. cant remeber the medical term yet, gonna try smoking these pills for clarity from the booze.

Okay,

Talked with Fritz today, and we will be staging out of Harmels each day.

Like last time, Fritz and his crew will be guiding us through some epic Colorado riding!

Most if not all the rides will be 50 miles or less between gas stops.

Can we get a count going for those coming who will need a bike to ride? I can bring one or two extra's. Cypher has first dibbs on one of my extra's.

wow ! on fr3 the demo bikes were an event in themselves. all of the bikes were flawless. they all shared a front wheel that was firmly planted and forks that were almost invisible [if that makes any sense]. they each are like individual weapons. there's an overlap of bike characteristics from cc size to cc size and they all were insanely planted.
i was sweet on the 390. in case anyone's planning anything.

chili for the chili dinner party [ the party where we eat chili ] ....... i can bring great chili thats ready, maybe have different spicyness mixed there, or not. thats the idea.

sign-up sheet.....booked the harmel room today. so 2 from las vegas to be added, with a possible fly in other. i cant get on the official sign up so this is it. i've been trying to figure out paying with paypal but none of mine will contribute. thats funny..... cause it sounds like there is more than none.
