Oh, yeah..... I'd be interested in fitting a ventilator to the radiator....is it doable? Is there any info on what vent fits?

Also, I'd be interested in buying an aux under seat tank....so if anyone has one to sell please let me know!

M.
Aux underseat tank? sweet dreams, mine also. I will have to make one by myself. i am considering my own simple design, i.e. to make it from 4 sheetst of alu, 2 bent and 2 for the sides, drill some small holes along their edges, bind them with zip ties and put something like camelbag inside, not sure what exactly yet, maybe just a pet bottle. connecting hoses do not bother me. my concern is to play with front-rear weight balance of the bike, not the fuel reserve, since I have the big tank from 2007, which provides more than enough gas supply for my riding.
fan: I have bought one for PC cooling as well, it is not installed yet, so cant give recommendation. but the fan holder posted by bushmechanic is disgustingly luxurious.
I was entertained by how you could install a 501 headgasket after all the precise work you did on your bike till now. did you also tighten the nuts? with a torque wrench? hahaha

in the pre 09 bikes there are holes in the radiator fins ready to take plastic inserts for mounting the factory fan

lots of people use computer fans, ive seen a better solution with a ducted fan from an RC plane with a speed controller.. they blow more air and don't mind water as much

the underseat tank idea is good, you could try an elastomeric polysulfide aircraft tank sealant, they use this stuff to seal off inside the wings for fuel tanks .. just thin alloy sheet riveted together

One is German, one is Croatian, so I'll go with a mix beer-travarica...

But now you have some explaining to do, your Croatian is way good, you know about Dinga? and travarica, as you wrote "uvik" I'm guessing vacation somewhere in the region south of Zadar?? Maybe even some Croatian origin?

Cheers?

Quick question....again.... :D

Cam shaft bearings.....they are RSR (closed) do you guys open them for better lubrication or do you leave them closed to save them from debris?

M.

we leave them closed so that th back one gets some lubrication and doesn't spit the balls out!

regards

Taffy

Thanks for the advice on cam bearings!

Don't know if any of you follow the Dakar Rally but edelweises countryman Svitko had a storming ride yesterday! Go Svitko!!!

Yes, we are enduro nation. We have Ivan Jakes as well (4. place last year). This two guys are elite non-factory riders capable to be both in top 5, which is a fact that they allready proved. Svitko took the 5. place in 2012.

Haven't done much since the proper head gasket arrived.....

Left the cam bearings closed, timing done, oil pump and shifting mechanism in.
About the timing.....after you put the cam chain in, the dots on the wp and the other gear must be alined while the marks on the cam gear remain parallel to the head sealing surface (lobes facing down while @TDC), right?

What valve clearance do you suggest? 0,12 as per manual, or?

Have to apologise, I promised to weight the piston and the cam chain but haven't been able to find a proper scale.... :?

what did you use to clean the cases? they are like dogs balls.

I used a popular product here in Cro, called "IVASOL", it is HCl acid, diluted with other emulgatin components, for degreasing and cleaning engines.
You can buy it at every gas station over here.

I also used a wirebrush and a green scotchbrite cloth....

M.

Piston @ TDC (Comp)
Crank locked
Cam lobes down
Valves set
Balancer "timed" well (??)
Cam chain tensioner properly mounted and tensioned.....

WTF??

the crank may be locked but the intermediate gear is clearly one tooth out.

LIFT THE CLUTCH BASKET TILL THE INTERMEDIATE GEAR IS FREE AND THEN TURN IT, THEN DROP THE CLUTCH BASKET BACK DOWN.

THEN SPLIT THE CAM CHAIN AND RE TIME THE CAM. do it with the lobes up for certainty or look at the two dots on the cam sprocket. they sit at 3 and 9 o clock.

that should do it!
