Hi

If the things you are saying are true I don't see a good end to this story.
Berg was always been leading the innovation, KTM learned a lot from Berg in the old days as you all remember, and we are used to see berg this way, and the 70deg engine was the same story again, and it would make sense to have a KTM in a near future with a 70deg engine.
I don't buy the die cast thing, we know the advantages of that, and also the initial cost of it, but people are doing engines in sand cast way in a lot of places.
Also don't tell me the 70deg is a bad concept, if it was KTM would never let Berg start with it, and if the engine have any problems why there hasn't been any development over this years ??

What will happen to the 70deg bikes value if this engine will be considered one mistake ??.

There is one strategies in here, we just don't know what..

The 2 stroke story for me was weird, and if this goes for the 4 strokes, for me, it's the end of berg as I know it and as I love it.

Lets wait and see how this story ends ...

KTM just invested everything in a brand new four stroke design and platform, so it actually makes no sense that they would switch course and go to the Husaberg design--especially when the KTM design is lighter and handles better.

I didn't say the 70 degree engine was a bad concept, it isn't, but it has been since proven that there are better ways to achieve the same mass centralization that Husaberg was going for. It is what it is. In addition, the Husaberg is too heavy overall. It needs to drop 20 pounds bad.

All the dealers have been told no 70 degree Husaberg next year, and with economics what they are, the chance that it would return are slim.

Just being realistic, unfortunately.

You are probably right my friend, maybe I'me just beeing sentimental

But now BREG is well known brand and I don't think that KTM have any interst in ending it, because if it hapens they know they wont add the all the BERG sells to ktm, so lets see how the strategy will be 8)

I bet you HSB 450 and 570 (this motor would change to another engine cylinder volume maybe 530 or 510 or ...) will be made with slant motor in 2013. :pimp:

It's a desire too.

I rode a 2012 KTM 450 xc-w yesterday. The motor felt like my husaberg. I would bet that if Husaberg discontinues the 70 degree motor, this motor will be the one. I really liked the way that bike handled. I imagine that they will do a bit of a redesign to accomodate that motor in the existing chasis.

Its not a husaberg :(

I can accept the fact they use a Ktm to get the 2 stroke line started but going from husaberg's own platform to the ktm 4T its not the same, disappointment if its true not even a plastics change. I won't be investing in a 13 model if its just a colour copy of a 12 ktm

I have to comment on all the rumors about the 2013 Husabergs, hope this reaches KTM/Husaberg
I agree with MXdave, I don't think I would buy a KTM in Blue plastic, A want to be Husaberg! The KTM is a great bike, just not a Husaberg. I like the out of the box thinking of Husaberg not the same old design from year one!!
My 2010 FE570 has been the perfect bike for Mountains trails, desert riding and a little dual sporting. With well over twelve thousand miles of fun on the Husaberg, it's working great but I just want a new one. I am planning on buying a new 2013 Husaberg if they stay with the same design with some improvements. It took me awhile to understand the balance of the 70* design and how to make it really work. When I ride another brand they just don't have the planted feeling and balance of the berg. I have not rode my 09 YZ250 two stroke for nine months because the Husaberg works so much better. The YZ is a great bike but just does not compare to the Husaberg.
I'm sure KTM has all ready made 2013 plans mainly for cost effective reasons and my little wining won't make a difference but I feel better for speaking out. I have e-mailed KTM with my ideas for small improvements to the current Husabergs and asked them to continue with the 70* design with no reply of course.
have a great ride

seems very strange especially, when you think of just how well they performed in chile

Amen to that. I have had a bit more of a love/hate relationship with my 70 degree Berg, but still way more love than hate. My FE 550 before that was my favorite motorcycle ever, and I wish I still had it.

It is unofficial that it is official. The 70 degree motor is to be discontinued. Word from the reps here in the good ole USA is that that motor design will not be on future HSB 4 strokes. I have heard some rumblings that the KTM 450 XCW unicam motor is going to replace it. 8 pounds lighter and the same power characteristics. (probably more than 8 pounds lighter than the 70 degree motor).

I rode the 2012 xc-w. I liked the power delivery. I felt the bike didn't handle the same. It seemed a little lethargic in the turns. I am old, fat and slow so don't take my word for it. I have the 2009 model and really like the geometry of my bike. I have the Ohlins package and that makes a world of difference.

Anyone have any new information?

Regards,

Thomas

Whatever they end up doing, if they would make a light weight 600+ cc bike I think it would be a
big seller. Including one to me.
I would think that should be something they would be interested in. Making money in the big bore department.

But it seems like that won't happen.

Just the way I see it.

I'm with you. Not to say that KTM couldn't add the big bore kit to the 500exc to make it a 570. Besides, blue is my favorite color. It should be branded as the upscale version of the KTM, the leader in quality and excitement.
I sure hope the recession in Europe does not result in a down sizing for Husaberg.
