The thing that cracks me up is the "photoshopped" images everybody ridiculed so much, were almost
perfect previews of these 2013 bikes. Maybe we shouldn't be so quick to judge.

speaking of photoshop, the pics at 4 min 56 secs in this vid summed it up. :D

the only thing i can see to like about the new 501 over the fe570 for my kind of riding is an extra liter of fuel in the tank. it could well be a better bike for strictly dirt riding but i think it will lose that cross over the 570 has for doing light adventure riding as well...

I'd love it if someone could give us a system by system, side by side, comparison of each '13 KTM and Berg model so that we can all see what exactly the differences are, if there are any....?

The difference is: the 2013 is lighter, has a fuel tank that lets you see your fuel level, has a dual oil pump, a radiator fan (stock), a stronger sub-frame, a lighter engine, a better suspension system but what's most important to me is still a mystery...is it street legal?

Not sure where you are, but FWIW I asked a dealer about that a couple of weeks back and he said they would be road legal in the UK.

My question was the difference between '13 KTM's and Bergs... Are you saying that the Berg is all the above better that the comparable KTM??!??

I like the other differences - plastic subframe, skid plate and map switch. Not sure what the disappointment is??

I don't get it either. The bikes look great. I am fine with sharing portions of the bikes with KTM. Taking the best bikes in the business refining them, making them a bit different and tuning them different is a strong business idea and a way to get more people riding a Husaburg with more sales. All I can see is positives.
A couple of things I did find interesting were that the approximate weights listed have the Husaburgs weighing slightly more than the KTM models. The other thing I noticed was that the FE250 has the old KTM 250 engine not the new one in the SXF and XCF. It is still being used in the 13' KTM 250xcfw as well. I guess that is good as I am still riding my 07' 250xcfw and I love the bike, it has been dead reliable and it performs admirably. I am loving the new Husaburgs and there is a good chance I will be buying a new FE 350 in the next year or so.
I hope the 70 deg engine diehards can get over their pain and give the bikes a chance. I believe they will be distinct enough and perform well enough that they will forgive KTM for doing what is probably the right thing to justify the brand.

I am so excited to see that these models were released!

About three months ago I bought a leftover 2011 KTM 250XCF for just $5900. Bought a Yoshimura Carbon/Titanium exhaust for it on ebay for just $399. Had Factory Connection revavle the suspension for me, then just added the Core EXP Rekluse in it and it RIPS! I am running way faster on it than my FE450 though I do prefer the FE for longer & tougher rides.

I was worried I was gonna be regretting the purchase once the 2013 husabergs were released.

IM NOT. :bounce3:

I own a 70d 570 and am sad to see them go from the line up but the new bikes look great! It wasn't that long ago that the bergs had a "conventional" lay out and I loved them then too! Im disappointed that there isn't a "big banger" to scare off the little guys like the 570 and 650 of the recent past! I guess I will just have to hold my judgements until I can get a ride on one, gee I hope the FE501 is noticeably better to my mates 2012 EXC500 ( which is a great bike)!!!

Now I'm confused. Before the launch I'd seen some people say that the bergs would be slightly lighter than the equivalent KTM, but the spec page shows the 501 at the same weight as the KTM 500 (112.5kg). However... on the 360 degree view page it says the 501 weighs 111kg, so 1.5kg lighter. No mention anywhere of exactly what that weight includes on either page, but surely they would at least be using the same basis everywhere on the Husaberg web site? :?

It almost looks as if the bergs are a bit lighter but they copied the spec from the KTM web site and forgot to alter the weight to allow for the removed kick-starter and the plastic sub-frame (the blurb says the kick-start can be retrofitted if you want one and it weighs 1.5kg, so exactly the difference between the weights on the two pages... probably just a coincidence though  ).

I have (KTM 500), for many hours, in many different riding conditions. Perhaps the smaller displacement bikes will be desirerable for some riders.
Im not so deflated about the loss of the 70` motor, its lack of "big bore" performance that the "new" models offer. Perhaps I lean more towards a traditional 4 stroke rider.
We cannot argue that the KTM 500 produces near the torque of our 570's. The old addage "theres no replacement for displacement" hold true here.
I understand the economic decisions that KTM had to make, I really do. But, if these "new" bikes are the way to go, why didnt we (people in the market for a new bike) all just buy 2012 KTM 500 XCW's last year?

I am ready to buy a new bike, but if I didnt buy a KTM last year, why would I buy a KTM this year, regardless of color? For a plastic sub frame, better forks and our beloved blue plastic?

I mean no offense to those that love these bikes. I suppose im whining like a child because I didnt get what I was hoping for . . . :(

Pricing info for the UK (E&OE!): prices will be between the equivalent KTM standard bike and the KTM Six Days model and closer to the lower end of that range, e.g. for the 501:
FE501: £7,345
500EXC: £7,295
500EXC ISDE: £7,795

So in this case just £50 more than the standard KTM. Of course you do lose the kick start but gain the CC forks over the standard model.

I am a big bore junkie and without pulling all the specs apart on the KTM and the new Bergs, really we are getting a KTM with a few bolt on differenes. They are for all intensive purposes Blue KTM's.
Unless they have radically different FI maps each bike will run pretty much the same as the motors are transplants. Possibly I can be convinced that for a small extra price the forks are worth having but we are talking about not a hell of a lot more than BNG (bold new graphics) and an attempt to make the bikes different with bolt ons (so why do the KTMs have kick starters if the bergs experience is that the starters are so reliable.......... what BS)

If only some one at Berg had the brains to do something different like throw in a 100MM piston and make a 600-650 2013 might have been the year to sell a 570 and a 650 but for all those in Australia these bike differ like a Berlina and a Calais not a Porsche and a Lambo.

wouldn't that be cool? there seems to be the demand for bikes that fit in the middle between light weight high maintenance dirt bikes, and heavy but ultra reliable steeds like the DRZ400, DR650 and XR650. the husky TE610 fitted this quite well but they are progressively turning into a heavy pig with each new model. the FE570 was coming close too but it looks like the 501 is moving toward pure enduro again...

I rode the 570 and it was a great bike. Although I have 2 650s, a lighter 570 with a kickstart would have
been even more appealing. And I was a little taken back by it not seeming to be as easy to work on as my
05 650s.
But they went the way of KTM with only the 500s as largest models.
Well, I will just wait around and ride my 05s for a while.

The actual displacement of the new 501, by the way, is actually 510cc with the same 95/72mm bore/stroke as the KTM 520/525/530 & 500. It really is too bad that Husaberg didn't use a 100mm bore to distinguish itself more from the KTM 500.

"The 2013 model lineup is far from the “blue KTM” misnomer that many Internet pundits erroneously use as to describe the brand."

Thank you Mr. dirtbikejournalist for such important information since I'm an ***** and I believe you instead of technical specification. I hope you spent some nice free holidays in beautiful Spain.
