briefly spoke to boss, whilst ordering some part, and mentioned that i'd been thinking of starting the discussion for the next force ride.

So here it is.

march '07 feels like it was years ago and i've even been trying to persuade the wife to take a week in the USA, with of course a couple of days riding slotted in somehow.

anyway back to business.

talking with Boss in moab he suggested the next ride be up his part of the world so thats my vote.

Hmmm, fly in, buy '09 from Boss, break it in with style at Force ride, ship back to Texas after the ride is done. Fly home and wait for my new bike to arrive. Now that would be a sweet vacation. More like a pipe dream.

Honestly, the logistics for me would dictate a more central location, but I'm a lazy Yank. I had so much fun and met so many cool people at the last ride that it would kill me to miss out, but I'd probably have to pass on the Pacific NW location.

Makes sense for everyone else though. Great riding and a large contingent of Bergophiles live right around there, or at least on the west coast.

Sign me up. :D

Now the time of year would be an important issue for some, if not most. March may be the perfect time of the year for Moab, but its usually on the wet side and colder in the North West that time of year.

While this topic is in its early stages, why not have a get together in '08 somewhere. Maybe a pre-ride of sorts in Rick's neck of the woods.

I think John is onto something!!!

I think I might need to do just that, except sending the bike back to CA.

that'd be great, we could all stay w/ json / charles  however, the only thing it would be central to is virginia and georgia. too bad the country's just so dam big.

mmhh, next time maybe I can realize to be also part of the ride.
Can anybody foretell if it will also be in march again, or so?

Next summer I will be in the US again, maybe I can repeat it in ´09 as well.
Unfortunately it´ll cost some money. Flight etc.

Taffy, what do you think? Should we fly together? A lot of flights from here have a stop in London.

Ned, Ken and Mike can probably tell you that the riding out here isn't what would probably be considered the best for a group ride. Also, as Ned noted, we're not really central :)

We've got room to spare in the basement if anyone wants to hang out :D

thanks,

I like Moab again because its so bike friendly. Too bad we have to wait sooooo long...

Moab has some advantages, like the great scenery, and easy bike-friendly camping, but it also has some disadvantages, like it's not that easy to find your own way around, and many of the trails are fairly demanding technically. I go to moab every march regardless.

The Bend OR area has great trails for a wide variety of rider skills, and readily available maps. The biggest issue is the hotels are in town, not by the riding.

The place I broke my leg (Lehman hot springs) near Ukiah oregon has very nice riding for all abilities in the Winom-Frazier ohv complex, and also has big hotsprings, and furnished cabins for rent along with camping. Not sure how easy it is to get in and out of for far away travelers, but I know there's a hospital and an airport with air-ambulance service in LaGrande (about 45 mins away). I learned this the hard way, lol.

Unfortunately, I am unlikely to be able to travel out of easy driving distance this year, as I have plans to do a few ISDE qualifiers and at least 2 national enduros, so my vacation and travel budget is fairly booked, but Moab or the northwest I would happily show up to.

given that most of the lads pushing for a NW ride obviously live there it's important that we can cater to all budgets. camping and cabins helped everyone because it was all within peoples budget.

so if you have good riding and good facilities velo - you're on your way!

regards

Taffy

Yes, there are great trails for a wide variety rider skills ranging from easiest all the way up the scale to the ultra-demanding easy. For those up to a great challenge, you could ride the trails while sitting backwards on your bike and discreetly sipping cocktails from your camelback.

Damnit, Log... Are you trying to shoot down the easy trails? Do you have any idea how much money I had to pay in the form of bribes to get the
next ride to occur in a locale like this? I've been offered the Salt Flats, but I'm hesitant because you can pick up too much speed out there.

thanks,

As most who went to Moab can atest, my bike did not take kindley to me riding through the rocks of moab, it kicked me off every chance it got. My berg, unlike most of yours, was not designed for that. Now some fun single track through the trees and the occasional water and log crossing I think is what my bike likes best, she tells me this every time i get to ride and don't break every damn thing on it.

Okay Okay, your right i just suck, but soft NW forest floor is easier to eat than Moab Rock.

I will go either place if ya'll will have me.

(NW! NW! NW! NW!)

Moab is somewhat centrally located for alot of the members. It is also very accomodating as well as low budget. It's not everywhere you can find a place like Sliprock Campground that will allow 70-100 dirtbikers to get together and pretty much have full run of the place. All levels of rides are readily available. The scenary spectacular.
Moab is hard to beat as far as logistics, accomodations and "bang for the buck".

I would more than likely be in for a NW location, but I would have to fly in. I would have to borrow, rent or buy a bike. The latter being done before for the Hatfield/McCoy ride.

I would be in for the Bend, Oregon area. I used to be a member of the Lobos M/C of Portland, Oregon and they have put on an annual one day ISDE event for about 27 years in the China Hat area just out side of Bend. It ranges from desert whoops to some really cool forest trails. I also have a few relatives living there so lodging would be free! I'm on the white KX-500 - (507).
