Seems to be a bit of an edge to this that I was not after.

If I have caused you offence it was not meant.

Llangollen is fine as a base as it has hotels and a camp site on the edge of town. One of the days rides could touch on Snowdonia.

There is also a great camp site near Dolgellau right in the heart of some great riding. It has hard standing and hook ups for vans and campers. A little chef up the road but approx 1 mile from a pub or Hotel.

Re: UK Force ride 2010

No edge at all. lets get on with it is what i was saying...

i know the campsite. just as you enter Dolgellau off the bypass on your left. as you say, a mile from the pubs. I was there during the WEC weekend for the Dolgellau rock fest. Dolgellau is a long way into Wales and Llangollen is just over the border and not welsh wales which can be a blessing and a curse.

I thought that Llangollen had plenty going on for a small town.

what about the North Wales coast? Too far in as well? Llandudno is a great little town in the evening. I can go into Llanwryst or betws and enjoy a good evening. Is there good riding in the national park or is it just the opposite?

are you saying that there are great rides etc at both? as I say, all I did was have one great day's riding there - I'm sure that there is more.

do we need, shall I have a word with the local TRF?

regards

Taffy

Re: UK Force ride 2010

I'm an active member of the local TRF so I guess that is taken care of.

Llangollen is a good choice it is possible to head off in all four directions which is great to split up groups and minimise the impact of a large group in an area. There is also three good days riding trail using it as a base so that part is OK. Plenty of fast food and Hotels. can't vouch for either but I'm sure they will be OK.

Using the North Coast as a base would make it hard to create different trails rides for different days but the highlights of Snowdonia can still be covered in good days trail ride from Llangollen.

I agree that Dolgellau would add another hour onto peoples drive especially as it is a BH weekend. There is some great riding there but Llangollen also has some amazing riding and as hard as I have tried it is impossible to do everything in one go.

I've no real experience of supermoto but guess that any of the roads are fine provided the speed cameras are avoided.

Any chance of sorting out some good weather?

Depending on interest I can try and get some trail ride leaders. Off hand I cannot think of a hotel that also has a van and campsite which would be an ideal base for the event by keeping everyone together

Re: UK Force ride 2010

Llangollen sounds like a good bet with the facilities mentioned by Eddie, hands up who at this stage is actually interested in the trip apart from the ones already on this thread. Then we can start looking at how many groups we might need.

cheers all, Carl

Re: UK Force ride 2010

I've stayed in the green bank - a pokey little hotel but smart. same as the cambrian - i thought was rough. although at least the green bank has a bar I think. the green bank is slap bang in the middle, has no car park and the cambrian has a public one. the other hotel, more expensive but defo good is the hand hotel, its on the high street, they took all the bookings for trail world so they are biker friendly. it has a car park in front the size of half a football pitch and again a proper bar that the locals use.

best pub is the rising sun at the eastern end of the high st. I remember a quant pub up on the canal.

wern isaf is the only campsite near town and it takes tents and motorhomes. http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/detai ... revid=3867 and this has 25 reviews.

I guess if we need a hotel then we need to go north of the river as well.

http://www.bridgeendhotel.com/

can't get google map into a car park. no idea where you would put the bikes at a hotel. campers should be safe. bridge end has excellent facilities in the hotel and the campers would have to come by the door to get into town.
the appear to do decent deals as well.

what do you think?

Re: UK Force ride 2010

I can put the word to all the people I contact and that's going to be a hundred or more so I'm sure we can get 20-30 people up for it. I'm sure the hotel - any hotel - would do a good deal.

put some more accomodation up here. take your spouses as well, if they can walk, shop, ride a train, canoe - they can find something to do.

I also wouldn't worry about the road riders. they can go in any direction and enjoy it i reckon.

Re: UK Force ride 2010

looks like the Wern Isaf camp site has a single caravan for hire which could mean that - i don't know - over half of us would be pleased to be on the site.

the caravan has a double bed and 4 singles and all will take adults. that is £70 per night.
if you take a tent it is just £6 per person per night.
if you take a motorhome and want their electricity it is £20 per night based on two adults and two children.
without electricity it's £15 per night based on 2 + 2 again.

shall we do the same as the American Force Rides lads and say anytime Friday through till late Monday and you can all perm your 2, 3 or 4 days from that lot?

the dates being Friday 29th, Saturday 30th April, Sunday 1st May and Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May. OK? If we pick that weekend, apparently the Wern Isaf has the BMW GS owner's club there each year. we can challenge them to some fell running as they will be even older, even fatter and even slower than us!

If a small group of say 6 of us can agree to that weekend that secures it as that's all we need at the end of the day and then if more want to come we can change size accordingly.

Ed you're well on your way to 20 posts and that was a really dry joke anyway... :D I should have explained. Bob give me a call sometime as we have been through all this once before anyway haven't we?

so are we agreed on this date? ....and on Llangollen?

Re: UK Force ride 2010

Both the date and the venue are fine with me. I will most likely be camping.

As no one apparently likes me enough to sponsor my smoker - I guess I'll just swop Cy's sm's back for my enduro rig. That's why I kept the set up. Might be man enough to ride the berg by then. :D

Count me in.

Yep count me in, tent next to the Berg in van within a stagger of a pub sounds good.

Any SuperMoto boys out there interested in a bit of sheep dodging?.....Crispin?

cheers Carl

don't worry about him bob! he'll be there! it's only half an inch on a map! if we get fed up with arkley (james) fallin off all the time: WE'LL put his SM wheels back on for him and you can have him for a day!

we've got 8 months so there'll be a few...

Chuffing "falling off all the time" - watch your back Sunday at Manby Enduro (assuming you get off the start line this time).. :bounce3:
