Straightening & welding cast road wheels?

Anyone had experience straightening and / or welding cast road bike wheels? Does the aluminium have too much magnesium in it to weld OK?

I managed to put by 'berg into a steel guard rail & put a small kink in one side of the rim flange on both front & back wheels. I think they are salvageable, but the front rim contacted the steel of the rail post & put a tiny crack in it. The rear tyre protected the rim from the same.

I'm not too worried about the appearance, both wheels will need a repaint.

Thanks, BW

PS. I now strongly recommend good shin protection! I found out that jeans don't protect you much from the teeth on the footpegs!!

Brad, Send your wheels to Laurie Alderton in Smithfield. If he can't straighten them they can't be straightened.

Give him a call and he will probably be able to tell you what needs doing.

Thanks heaps for the info Craigy! I had heard that people specialise in straightening them but had no idea who.
