I have a leak as well. I could smell fuel again so I took a look at the connection from in front of the shock and sure enough there is a drip at the bottom of the sub frame tank just below the outlet fitting. I'm not convinced teflon is the best way to seal that fitting.

Looks good on that site. I remember reading about using teflon tape on plastic fittings once and the problem can actually be tightening too much. Something like the lack of friction makes you tighten so much that the threads get distorted. Maybe that's happening? Chinese... I mean cheap tape?

I pulled my tank and resealed the fitting. Four wraps of some name brand teflon tape seems to have sealed her up. 8) I verified the two crimp clamps were tight and let it sit over night with fuel in it. No leaky. I put it all back together, only to discover a broken mid pipe mount, so it all had to come back apart.............. Oh well, I guess I'll have time to install that heat barrier that's been laying around for six months.........

Check this link for the chemical resistance properties of Teflon. Scroll down to Gasoline.

I think the tape is a better idea than the paste. My fitting appeared to be loose upon inspection. Maybe the paste became brittle and then leaked once the fitting moved?

Its not a paste and it never hardens. It stays pliable like the holymar product that mercedes benz came out with. The fitting must be snugly bottomed, these are tapered npt plastic holes, if the fitting is not snug do to flex it may weep some fuel.

It appears that the fitting could stand to be a touch longer. It bottoms in the hole kind of easily without the teflon. I snugged it up with four wraps of tape, but didn't want to deform the fitting with too much torque. I'll let you know if it leaks again. 8)

Finally received the bill from FedEx for importing the sub-frame tank and mapping switch into the UK.
Import Duty: £12.32
VAT: £48.05
Admin fee for collecting the charges: £10.00.
Total: £70.37

Obviously this is in addition to the cost of the tank and mapping switch themselves and the shipping charges. If you were ordering the tank without the mapping switch the duty and VAT would presumably be slightly less than this as the cost of the order would be less.

Thanks for posting that.

I've already taken the plunge and ordered a tank. I'm slightly surprised by the Duty figure and pleasantly surprised by the admin fee (I picked up my Scotts SUB mount last week - Parcel Farce wanted nearly £15 for the admin fee).

I recently installed my tank and filled it. Pool of fuel in the morning. I traced it down to the fuel line fitting. It is either at the tank junction or the where the fittings come together. Not sure. I think this is a real problem Dale, just wondering what to do next. I would rather carry a bit of fuel in my back[pack than have a leaking tank. Disappointing to say the least especially considering the price.

Jason,

Sorry to hear about your problem. You know of course that we have a 90 day guarantee so you don't have to worry about the money. The main thing is that you have problem and are not able to enjoy the tanks extra range.

If you can, please narrow down where the leak is coming from and get back to me. Please make sure that the quick disconnect is fully seated.

"If" you determine that the leak is coming from the fitting that is going into the tank, you can try putting some teflon tape on it and re inserting it, and see if that fixes it. Or contact us at sales@70degreeracing and we will take care of you.

Again, sorry to hear about your problem. I pm'd you my phone number, please give me a call at your earliest convenience.

Dale

Just wanted to update you all that our tank does fit all of the 2011's.

I saw a tank this weekend and was very impressed. I dont think you could tell it from the stock subframe.

Other than the auxiliary fill cap on the right side you have to look really close to tell the difference! Thanks for the compliment Scott!

Wiser and I had a lot of time to talk on Sat. We both had some mechanical gremlins and were DNF'ed within 12 miles of the start.

Hay Princy,

What was the postage cost to Australia?

I've been thinking about getting one too.

Cheers. :)
