Finally got after my little leak this weekend. It was from the fitting coming out of the new tank. I recommend you use a couple wraps of gas proof Teflon tape (yellowish in color and it's thicker than the regular white stuff). Nice tank for sure though. BTW, mine didn't leak much... I could smell gas in the garage and if I looked at the hose fittings from under the bike I could see seepage that eventually formed a drop at the bottom of the tank left side that falls on the swingarm and evaporates.

70 Degree subframe tank and fuel light

Works great. I left the shop with about half a tank, rode home, then road out to Machias and rode about. Probably about 40 to 45 miles. Dropped the bike twice and with no ball in the cap now I probably lost some gas, although I didn't smell any (whereas I always have before). I was back in on a trail when I saw the light come on. Not knowing how much gas I really had left I beat feet out of there to the closest local gas station ten miles away. I filled it up to the brim and it took 2.9 gallons. I probably had another 5 miles of usable gas - maybe more.

Something I noticed; the main tank level did lower noticeably once I had it filled - it took about 10 to 20 seconds for the fuel to self-level into the subframe tank and I put another half gallon into it or so. I went up the road two miles and stopped and checked the level. Before the subframe tank the level would have dropped an inch or maybe two just because the tank settled and got rid of the air that was trapped. Now it does that right at the pump - the fuel level was just as high as when I left the pump.

I purposely had the shop put the level sensor in the lowest position - it didn't make that much sense to me to have it in the highest position and have it warn me too early, and then I would just ignore it until it was too late. One of these days I will carry an extra liter or two of fuel and run it right down to the bottom to see how much usable fuel there is. I am betting 3.3 gallons, maybe a tad more.

All in all, very pleased. The location is perfect, doesn't affect the feel of the bike at all.

Only downside is that you give up the grab handle space - it is used for fuel. I need to get some tugger straps to help me lift the bike when I drop it now. I had planned on this anyway as the grab handles are not in an optimum location - but they were better than nothing, and now I have nothing.

Thanks for the great product. You know there are a lot of people out there who want this, that or the other thing, and many of those are good ideas. But it takes someone with vision, perseverance and know how to actually design, build and market such products - and it isn't easy, so I appreciate the effort and the quality, and I hope you have continued success with this and sell many more. I think anybody who buys a new Husaberg should get the subframe tank.

Thanks for the glowing review Code.

I talked with Haskell the other day, he has been using the tank for sometime now, and he was telling me that he went to go for a long ride and elevated the front wheel with the use of a block to see how much fuel he could get into the bike with the Sub tank. He reported that he was able to get 3.4 gallons of fuel into the tank this way.

Thanks again to all of our customers who have bought the tank and are enjoying the extra range it gives. And due to some technical difficulties we are having with paypal, we are going to extend the price increase until 11-31-10.

Sales are great and we are selling the tanks as fast we can make them! And the demand has been almost world wide with a lot of sales to Europe and Australia, and parts in between.

It has been a lot of work to get the mold made for the tank, get them to market, and John is working very hard assembling and shipping the tanks. I'm super stoked at the response we have had from all our customers.

Look for a mapping switch for the FX, and the KTM SX fuel injected bikes coming soon!!

BTW - I do find interesting the other post someone made somewhere about a 'slimline' rallye tank version of your subframe tank. I am not sure of the market for that or if it would be worth the level of effort you put into the subframe tank, but I think there are probably some people who would go for it. I can see already that I may go for one of the Aqualine tanks for really long rides where 3+ gallons just isn't going to be enough.

i got mine, looks great i can't wait till i install it.
my mate came over and saw it he ordered one now for his 390 :bounce3:

You'd have to sell a bunch of them to make it worth while! The sub tank was a huge undertaking in getting it to fit correctly.

Hey the T-Shirts are pretty well made too Dale. Are you still selling them?

Well... I got my tank and installed it... The tank is a really nice piece that is very high quality. You can tell that lots of thought and hard work went into the design and development of the tank, the aluminum fuel pump cover alone is a great piece.. The install took me around 2 hours taking my time, afterall this is my first Husaberg and found myself trying to figure out just how the bike is designed and how it comes apart. The tank fits perfect, all holes lined up for me and my garage floor is completly dry and free of gas because I have no leaks anywhere.. I want to thank John Wiser for getting the tank to me in a timely manner, and Dale for his answers to my questions. It all worked out and i'm leaving for a 400 mile ride tomorrow.. I'm pumped....

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the great write up. John and I have worked hard to produce a high quality product that is in line with high quality of the bike.

I hope your 400 mile trip goes without incident and you keep the rubber side down!

That's a great looking sticker on the head light mask!!!

Greetings from 70 Degree Racing,

Due to a very welcome worldwide popular demand, especially one large order from Europe, all of our current inventory has been sold. We thought we had made plenty of tanks in our last production run to last us for a while, but, all of you have given us quite a surprise!!!

We should have all the pieces necessary for production by Friday November 19th , but with Thanksgiving the week after the 19th, production will not realistically start until the November 29th. Which means, realistically we are looking at a 3 to 4 week delivery time from November 16th.

As you all know we are increasing our price to $449 plus shipping and handling effective November 31st. All orders made up through November 30th will be at the original price of $399 plus shipping and handling.

We at 70 Degree Racing apologize for any inconvenience, but, it seems as fast as we get the tanks in stock they fly off the shelves!!!

70 Degree Racing wishes to once again thank you all for making all of our hard work worthwhile! We will keep you updated on production progress.

I have had this tank on an FE450 and my FE570 and love it. I just got the Husaberg news letter for 2012 parts and wear catalog and they are now offering a subframe tank. Is this your tank Dale?

Thanks Cypher and CMSprofessor,

Just wanted to mention here that John Wiser is my partner in crime with the tank, and he is the one who takes care of all the sales, packaging, and most of the customer care.

He worked out the fuel pump holder and venting. I did the prototyping fitting and mold adjustments to the tank/sub frame itself. I bet I took my bike apart and put it back together again over 100 times getting that subframe to fit properly! The hardest part was getting the rear fender lines to match up correctly.

Thanks again for accolades for the tank. It has been a really cool experience to be a part of making a product like this that makes a great bike even better.

I never have to worry about conserving fuel, and can wick it up any time I feel like it. I just got back from FR 4, and a three week road trip that included more riding in addition to FR 4. I rode in Utah on the Piute ATV trail (not as bad as it sounds, some of it is actually kind of tough), and rode another 5 days in Kennedy Meadows.

In Utah when I rode the Piute trail, I did a total of 120 miles one day, leaving at 1400 hrs and arriving back at home at 2130 hours. At about 65 miles into my ride and the farthest part north I decided that I better drop down to Koosheram and get gas before heading back. Koosheram has one gas, and one diesel pump. They only had 85 octane fuel, and my bike took 1.8 gallons, mind you there was a few long sections of dirt road with high speeds and large throttle openings. Still 36mpg is not bad considering.

So I mixed 1.8 gallons of 85 octane with 1.3 gallons of 91 non ethanol gasoline that I got in Gunnison, and my bike ran fantastic! Someone out there can possibly tell me what the resultant octane was with that mix. I was riding between 8-9K feet, and about 80F. On the ride back it was black diamond ATV trails (again, don't laugh they weren't that easy) at night. This was the first time I got to really try out the Trail Tech X2 HID light. The 2" spot never failed, but, the 4" flood did not have enough cooling at the low speeds I was riding at (told you the trails weren't that easy) and would cut out occasionally-forcing me to stop at a convenient location to cycle the switch and get it going again. I think that if I was to remove the rock guard it would give more cooling to the 4", and it would no longer cut out.

However, this light provides great lighting for speeds up to about 50-55 mph, anything above that and I would have been overriding my ability to react to what I could see. This is a great light, and I'm sure that once Barshoe get's his sorted he will be really happy.

On the last leg of my trip I stopped at Kennedy Meadows for 5 days, spending 4 days riding about 200 miles of single track there. Again, I made some big loops enjoying the great riding there, and videoing all of the bike trails there. Cobalt blue skies, and day time temps in the high 70's. In four days of riding I saw 3 riders in one group once, pretty much had the whole place to myself-awesome.

I made some big loops with the longest being around 70 miles, again, never had to worry about fuel, and, still had plenty left over when I got done. On the 70 mile day I figured I had enough fuel left to do another 40 miles-at least.

Didn't mean to prattle on here, but, just wanted to convey how cool it is to have that extra gallon of fuel and how much more flexibility it gives this great bike!

Hey Dale,

Glad to see you back in Dodge! Sounds like you had too much fun since last we saw you. Kennedy Mdws, end
of Sept., awesome! Well, Barshoe did get the HID light to fit, finally. Had to redesign the layout of the wiring
cluster. The 570 street legal is a pain with all those additional wires for the turn signals, etc... but we got her done.
Regarding riding over your head / beyond your lights capability, I picked the TT 8-inch race HID. WOW, now that
thing makes some light! Easy to mount, also. Glad your fuel use worked out so well, being you were so alone in
the Sierra's. The bears in our area are feeding extra heavy getting ready for the big sleep. I imagine they'd be
sniffin for some wayward biker out of gas, in the mountains!
FYI, talked to Parkfield, fall squirrels are happening. Maybe we can work a trade; weekend shoot / 70 degree
tank install. It's sitting out in the shop, waiting.......ha ha! Glad your back. KA
