OK guys, so far this is what I have found out about Gunnison facilities.

I made a few phone calls today. The first being to the Tall Texan. They are way off the beaten path to any dirt bike trails. Your looking at 20 - 60 miles of trailering your bikes. Real nice lady to speak to though.

I tried another place, the Tomichi Creek Trading Post; booked solid due to black powder and bow hunting season.

The next place and this sounds and looks like "the place" was the Three Rivers Resort http://www.3riversresort.com/. They have cabins available in September. They have trail access from the property and more trail access within 10-20 miles of the place. They also have a large place for all of the gather and hang out or have a group dinner (Bobzilla's World Famous Chili").

I was told to call back on Monday and speak with the reservation manager, which I will do for more details.

So please take a look at the web site and let me/us know what you think.

Mike

No RV spots or tent spots from what I can tell would be an issue, I would think.

I had talked to 3rivers months ago and to me it sounded like a go. They had all the facilities we needed and were up for the challenge. The location was right in between Gunnison and Crested Butte. The down sides...
1) Not much going on around them, restaurants etc..
2 )No camping facilities

I then thought at the time that that may not be an issue with fuel at $4 plus a gallon. Who wants to haul an RV or toy hauler when you could split a cabin for $100-200 for the whole trip depending on how many stay with you.Really not cost effective to camp, plus everyone would be together. They did say there was a state camp ground about 2 miles away which I didnt think was to bad.
Where ever we end up you can plan on trailering the bikes to the trail heads.

P.S.
Just reread the thread....I guess I just keep repeating myself. I guess I am waiting for someone to say" forget about 3rivers, it wont work".

Okay,

3 rivers won't work.

At least not for me, I'll be coming in my toy hauler, I need and rv camp ground.

How much additional time and money will it take to get your toy hauler up there Dale? then you have to pay to camp, dump ect..
It lookes like rooms could be had from $40-65 a night depending on how you go about it. Less if you dont mind being cozy....me I'm not the cozy type.....not with guys anyways

Not worried about time or money when it comes to this trip. As the force ride is only part of my trip. I'll be off for a few weeks and will be on walk about so to speak. Going to be heading to Idaho, Oregon, Utah, and possibly Washington in addition to Colorado.

But to answer your question directly to take my toy hauler would take me 14.5 hours drive time, and $173 worth of fuel. Averaging 55mph and 11.5 mpg.

Without toyhauler 11.5 hours drive time, and $117 worth of fuel, averaging 70mph and 17mpg.

Difference 3.1hours drive time, and $57 worth of fuel, one way. Being able to stop where ever I want and spend the night, and having all my stuff locked up inside out of sight.........priceless.

Hey all camping is a big part of the trip for us we are coming from Ontario Canada.1626 miles 26 hours or so.Plus bikes people and equipment and a back-up bike or two.Being so far from home thought a extra bike for insurance. We also save along the way on accommodations and food. Not to mention splitting the gas.So camping is a must for us or no FR3.Thanks Jeff

Sorry I haven't been doing any logistic stuff. I work 6 days a week and have 4 kids. On monday I'll go where ever anybody wants and report back. There is no reason to panick about anything this is a resort community that has dealt with dirt bike groups for twenty years plus. I haven't read all post but I did see one about ther being no trails by the tall Texan.I have not trailored my bike in years. trails are 360 degrees from all areas. And by the way I have been snowmobiling. I won't ride bike till March or april.

Fritz is right, I ride my berg from gunni to cement creek and cb. Right now it is sledders paradise :hello1: ...roost on!woohooo!

Well somebody's been riding your bike....I saw it down here in AZ and it looked well ridden  Cool thing that fuel shut off for the EFI. It stops the motor dead as soon as it's upside down :D

Just kidding....about the upside down part.

We don't have any alternative site that has RV or camp spots, so I say lets book the Tall Texan. Besides, I'm tall and from Texas, so it can't be a bad place.
