How's that:

Husaberg already died last year with MY 2013 when they dissed the 70d engine. simple as that. You might just as well buy a KTM nowadays, same bike, different color.

And if Husqvarna turnes out to be the same formula as is in MY 2013 & 2014 Husabergs, ie, KTM in blue & yellow disguise, there would really be no incentive for me to buy a Husqvarna.
That's also why I do not understand anyone who is so cheerful about the present Husabergs. What's the point? Just a different color? Plasic rear frame? Big deal.

In the end, why be sentimental, a bike is just a piece of cleaver engineering. It does not have a personality or soul.
For me the difficult thing to undersytand is why-o-why KTM decided to discontinue the 70d engine.
That was a true innovative design, a brillant idea, Colubus's Egg. An engine made with 95% KTM parts but still a very own identity.
The only reason I can come up with are costs... these are difficult economical times and dropping a seperate engine line in the factory saves a lot of money.

On the up-side: I wouldn't be surprised if the 70d engine would be re-introduced into Husqvarna, it is the most cost effective way to bring a "new" enduro bike to the market without considerable development costs. It would provide a real own identity for the reborn brand.

Husaberg was bought because KTM wanted the 4T design of the early HBergs for their new 4T EXC models introduced in 2000.
Husqvarna is bought simply becasue it was there for the grabs.
The intention is very different. That's why KTM will give Husqvarna a very own identity with likely the same suppliers but different designs for a lot of stuff.
The selling point will be the same as with Husaberg: for those riders who do not want an orange bike but with KTM quality and different from the mainstream pack.
Hopefully KTM will come up with a new & sexy design for Husqvarna logo & brand identity as well, just like they did with Husaberg. I liked the new Husaberg logo and other branding.

I am curiuos what KTM will do with the 2T line of Husqvarna.

R.I.P. Husaberg. we had some good times together.

You answered your own question : )

@ Berg570FE.

perhaps I have to refrase: why on earth would you buy a blue KTM and show some kind of weird brand loyalaty towards it? That's what puzzles me.
For myself; if KTM continues in the same way with Husqvarna as they did with Husaberg in these 2 Model Years (2013-2014) I see no reason to buy a Husqvarna.

I had the same feeling as dustbite in regards to the blue KTM thing until I saw the 2013 FE501 in the flesh. To me the berg died at the demise of 70deg. Then I rode my mates new EXC500 and thought that it was a great bike ( still no 570 though, ha ha). When I saw the 501 for myself I quickly realised the difference between the two. Like i said earlier, same but a little better. Pretty much the same story berg has had for a while now, thats the appeal! Its the little differences that make them valuable over the KTM. Pictures don't do it justice. That being said, Im not planning on getting rid of my 570 anytime soon, just hope I can convince the family treasurer that I need one of each next year!!!!!!!

Agree. The 501 feels different than a 500. My friend owns a KTM 500 6-days -12, and I had the opportunity to test a 501 -13. Different bikes.

I agree with everything you say, at last someone who sees things similar to me.
what will you run now Adriaan?

Taffy

There appears to be some confusion around the fact that a KTM 500 and a Husaberg 501 are actually very different to ride! just because you guys think they are the same bike does not mean the handle the same or feel any thing alike to ride, these bikes although similar are actually very different machines, my brother has the KTM 500 and i have the 501 so we know for a fact that these are not the same bikes, we feel the different suspension and the way the power comes on to be very different. my brothers bike i can only describe as soft while mine has retained the savage bite that comes from a berg, i love it, my brother actually said if he is getting a new bike soon its going to be a Burg!! he has had 2 KTM's previously so i think thats saying something.

sad to hear of the amalgamation with husky im not a fan of the husky brand :(

Hi Taffy,

Well, that remains to be seen. Business is low so I will hold on to the trusty 6 70d bikes I have at the moment. Plus, of course, my two older models FE 550 for guiding.
I am very curious about what will be introduced in October. Between the lines I was reading (in the press release) that KTM might stop with a few of the older Husqvarna models.

If, and I say it again, if KTM comes up with something interresting I will be one of the first to order. Anyway, I have Husaberg dealer status and that will very likely stay for Husqvarna as well.

Best case scenario: Husaberg is renamed Husqvarna! :bounce:

@ shoey85,

exactly my point: FE 501, a KTM with only minor differences. different mapping, different suspension set-up and/orupgraded suspension available through parts & accessories.
NOT a true Husaberg with its own identity.

By the way; even two of the exact same bikes can feel different as I found out on several occasions. the engine sounds different, more vibrations, perhaps slightly different suspension settings.

Re: End of The H

As far as I'm concerned Husaberg died back in 2008 with the last of the 2nd Generation, anything after that is a reworked Blue KTM.
Love KTM, great bikes, few issues, they have the ability to solve problems quickly, but Austria & Germany is not Sweden, what Husaberg really need is a Koenigsegg genius visionary to design & manufacture a top class cutting edge handcrafted limited production range that would be the envy of many Motörhead that understands the concept of
" Form Follows Function " have KTM fund it.

ktm probably bought husky so they could figure out how to make there engines hold more the 1.4 qts of oil. husky has been holding almost 2qts for 8 years.

I think I'm seriously considering a Beta for my next bike. Yep, keeping the old FS650 as soon as I finish rebuilding her. I will surely look at the "new" Husky when it's revealed (not the hangover Husky, rather, whatever it is that Ktm represents as the post merger collaboration bike). Still, Beta sure seems to be putting out a quality bike that looks nice and rips.

The only thing I'm hoping for is a return of the big bores under the husky name. I had a drag race on the road with a new 501 on my 650, mines got 220hrs on it, and I'm a good 30kg heavier and I still won. I do know the power is completely unusable (more so for a novice like myself) but **** it puts a grin on your face when you give it a little bit to much. Also love the fact my 08's the last of the bergs to come out with a kickstarter and have the chain and sprocket on the correct side. I'll be hanging onto the big girl for as long as possible!

Man, I didn't notice this from the Husaberg website until now, I guess it is official....

" As Husaberg’s state-of-the-art technology joins together with Husqvarna’s rich heritage, under the Husqvarna brand, the 2014 model range represents a fantastic and unique opportunity to own a pure Husaberg for the very last time. "

That totally sucks.

That totally sucks.

It depends, if it is simply a plastic/colour and name swap the only thing we have to get used to is the name Husquvarna....plus; we might get the 70degree engine back. And perhaps a true Husaberg/Husqvarna designed 2t!

Somewhere in October KTM will unfold their plans and the new Husky line-up.
