Clipping the CZ 1 Wire?

I own a 2011 FE570S.

So, I'm looking through the service manual and in the Lighting Systems and Instruments section of the manual, I discover a section addressing clipping the brown wire on the CZ connector, Pin 1 in the wiring harness behind the headlamp mask. Instantly, my curiosity was awakened. I read further, and the following instructions are given to the dealer.

Any modification of this will require a the dealer to notify the customer in writing that the bike is now only legal for competition use only? So, does clipping this wire activate a competition mapp in the FI programming? What are the exact results of clipping this wire, and why does it change the bike from a legal street bike to a competition model only?

Does anyone have the answer to this question? I already called my dealer and his service tech did not want to answer the question without the owner's permission. Now, my curiosity is really going wild. What does this super secret wire clipping do?

Looking at the wiring diagrams the brown wire appears to be just an earth from the lighting circuit. My guess is it may disable some of the lights or instrumentation? It just seems an unlikely way of activating another map if there is one stored in the ECU. I'm not convinced the ECU is even capable of storing more than one map. I've heard of ECU's being re-flashed with competition maps.

Yeah, thanks for the reply. It is odd, and there is no mention of what clipping this wire will do? I've tried two dealers, and they both acted stupid in regard to this wire and what clipping it does? From page 111 in the Repair Manual (CD), it seems it may disable or enable something through the instrumentation?

Obviously one way to found out would be to cut the wire and see what happens. With the manual stating that cutting the wire makes the bike competition legal only I would not think it would damage anything but it would be safer to know for sure first. The real mystery here is the dealers' strange response to request for info about it.

If clipping this wire really does make a difference in how the bike runs, it might be a pretty smart idea to instal a small switch.

What year and model are we talking about here? Is this a 2-stroke or a 4-stroke?

From the factory only the Speed & Hours and Speed & Odometer display modes are activated on the speedometer.

Clipping the CZ1 wire activates the "Additional Functions" of the speedometer, which are basically several additional display modes on the speedo.

The reason for the dire warning about getting a signed work order are related to the certification process for getting the bikes cleared for legal street use in some countries. Apparently, some certifying entities would approve the bikes for street only if the speedo display modes were 'restricted'. 'Unrestrict' the display modes and suddenly the bike is no longer street-legal in those jurisdictions, usually with very harsh penalties attched if you get caught running one that way.

Mike, can you give some detail about the additional functions that are activated by clipping this wire?
