70deg obsolete but they are still awesome

Riding today in the forest today it dawned on me that my 70 deg FE450 is actually still a great bike.

For instance, there has been very heavy rain here in QLD over the past two days, but i went out for a blast in the forest anyhow. I came across a few creek crossings that were up pretty high, no problem. But then, there was one that i didn't recall had a pretty deep mid section, water up over the seat and take, but the Bergmarine just power thru.

After getting to the other side slightly impressed i pulled the seat off and filter. Looking at the air intake flute i got to thinking, even if some water got past that filter it still has to be higher than the flute entry point before it can get in the engine. Bloody clever.

If i was on the new FE350 for example i'd be screwed.

Still a really relevant bike, shame it isn't being made anymore.

i would say its going a bit far to say that the 70deg design is obsolete especially when the real reason for the change of machinery has more to do money than any technological advances.

how much tech that was first tried with the berg is now on the new ktm / bergs?

plastic subframes and FI are the obvious 2 but i would imagine there are others.

Bought my 2010 FE570 and I have never regretted buying this great bike
My 2013 TE250 IS A GREAT TWO STROKE but is not even close to the fun factor of the 570 HUSABERG( a real HUSABERG)
It is a shame the great design of the 70* bikes has been beat down and thrown under the bus for financial grains by KTM and there BOSS the India motorcycle company, but that's real business of the big companies when production cost is high because of a great quality built bike.
KTM enjoyed the great reviews of the Husaberg for three years, all the while never making a single improvement on the totally new design. This is unheard of on a new design!!
Maybe there is a wealthy motorcycle enthuses out there that's not concerned with big profits who will buy the production rights to the real Husaberg and start production with a few improvements, I can DREAM can't I !!
In the mean time I will just keep riding both bikes but I will Have the biggest grin under my helmet when riding the FE570.
Have a great ride

Bought my 570 in '10 to replace my stolen XR650 and glad I did. Up to that point I'd never even heard of a 70 deg engine so, tempted by a good deal, I took a chance on this 'new technology' and took the plunge. Can't really say if the 70 deg setup handles any better than a modern conventional setup KTM etc, all I know is it's a great bike to ride.

Obsolete = No Longer produced.

Unless they (70deg models) are still being made (which they are not) i don't think it is going a bit far to say they are obsolete.

I was going to sell my FE450 after a recent rebuild, but i think i'll just keep it and rebuild when needed.

I purchased a pristine '09 570 a year and a half ago. After fixing the overheating issue, this bike has proven to be very reliable. To this day there is no other dirt bike I would rather own. Deep water crossings are only one of this bikes strong points! Owning a 70* Husey is an exclusive club! Ride On!

Ha.

As I was writing my first entry I thought " he'll just quote the dictionary definition back at me"

In the real world most people read obsolete and take it to mean out date technology.

And as we live in the real world not a dictionary ...

I'm with you man. Just took her out for another blast this afternoon in the forest. I'm starting to wonder how long i might keep this bike, it is just perfect.

I love mine, I can't imagine life without it, and I am happy! I guess I'm in a committed bars, seat, and peg relationship. No seriously, the bike is absolutely awesome, after a long boring day yesterday, ten minutes of riding it elevated my spirits dramatically. Of course that probably had to do with the wheelies and what not. Awww...., I do love my Hussyberg. She really is the "Other Woman."

Bought a 2012 FE 570 last year & owing to unforeseen things haven't done a log of riding so far only about 25 hrs, but after coming from a 09 530 exc all I can say is wow this weird Berg thing good, much better than the ktm. Ok it's a few years younger & I haven't ridden a current ktm & hear they are much improved but they would have to be to even catch up & equal the Berg. Don't have a 565cc factory option though which is just another Berg bonus.

I myself just picked up an 11 FE450 and the thing is Awsome. I really luv the overall handling, plus the engine power is just WOW ! I can only imagine how your 570 is.

The front wheel is very very light on the 570 :)

Still so amazingly linear and controllable but ROOST at command!

These bikes are something special indeed ... I just realized quite recently that my first proper ride on my 570 was on iced gravel roads without studs in the tires .. and I managed not to fall down or spin out. Such refinement!!

Have to agree with everyone else, I love my 11 FE450. All my friends went to KTM 300's but thats just a fad too. Sad that the brand was put to death because it was too competitive.

I even looked around this year at something to replace it with and found nothing that could tempt me. Hope all the spares are available for a long time :)

Long live the 70 degree berg :D

I have just restored my Husaberg FE 570 after standing for over one year. I bought a mint 2014 Husqvarna FE 350 to replace it, a great bike, but you cannot compare the 2 bikes. My Husqvarna FE 350 has to be worked hard to get it to go, my FE570 has to held back! On technical terrain the mildness of the Husqvarna is an advantage, but everywhere else my Husaberg FE 570 out performs the newer technology. I will keep both, but will definitely use the 570 more.

Even the weight of the 570 is not noticeable , it is narrow when standing, front end is light and changes direction effortlessly. I often wonder why I ever considered changing bikes....probably because that is what guys do!
