hey fellas,
i have just bought my first berg an 04 plated fe550 im in australia and from what i gathered this is when they come "good" roughly. she's in pretty good nik with 2500 kms on clock and straight as a die! im a mechanic but is there anything i should check on the bike, common problems and fixes to do b4 it becomes a problem, it runs sweet now with wheelies in all gears woop woop haha would be good to have any in put.
ps the bloke i bought it off seems fairly straight laced good dude and he says service was always done and looking at oil condition and listening to it, it's the goods!
any inpt would be good
one last thing any opinions on how it would line up with a new ktm530?? my old man has got himself another bike he kept his cr500 but now im chasing the 530 but we'll see i havent been out with him on the berg yet!

cheers boys

Hey there jusso,
I have had the same bike, 185 hours on engine 8800kms of offroad work, no dramas , the nut on the end of the crank that retains the gear that drives the clutch came loose early on mine, just needed a dab of locktite and was all good, think this only happened to a few bikes that year from what I remember.
Sold that 04 550 and missed it so much I brought another exactly the same and just do the usual dirt bike maintenance and regular oil & filter changes and find them extremely reliable. I dont even have the kick starter on it any more and leave it in the shed for a month or more and starts every time off the button. That one now has 130hrs no problems.Every now and then I make sure the swing arm bearings are greased so the swing arm pin will always come out easy.No grease there makes them pretty tough to get out some times.Check the valve clearances every now and then.
Cant think of to much else thathas caused me to many issues.

Cheers!
