Well not a big year recognition problem, i finally parted with my hard earned for a husaberg, always fancied 1 just didnt fancy the repairs, got struck by a bolt of wisdom and thought most highly tuned lightweight 4 strokes go pop now and again anyhow. I picked up a 2002 model fe400 on a 52 plate wich was first registered [uk] on the 1/11/02, it looks a little more modern than some of the 02s ive seen as it has a digi speedo, ive attached some links to a gallery to see what you all think, oh yeah i paid £1800 for it wich i thought was a bargain, just gota contact G Grover to find out some history.

Handguards are to be replaced with some ally braced items and i know i forgot to cut the zip ties on the rear lightin cabling

have you got a name coz i'm not calling you by your nik!!!!

OBTW-welcome to UHE fella and well done on buying the bargain!

i need a photo of your right hand side of the engine if you can. need to see the battery and the ignition cover.

right now though i'd say you have an '02 with '03 plastics and handlebar set up, digi speedo and all. even the front mudguard is off the next year.

why don't you downbload the owners doc which you can do by going to the foot of my post here and on page 3 or so you'll see an 'easy-read' of all the updates that made the change in years.

Looks like an 02 to me. My 03 has a yellow seat and different graffics. Could be an updated engine though...

01 rear fender with aftermarket number plate background.

03 front fender.

Aftermarket decals and seat cover

01-03 fork guards.

On the right side pic it shows the negative cable grounded to the starter bracket and the battery box supported by the starter bracket. Definitely not a 01. Taff where was yours grounded to?

that's an '03 model for sure! the frame number would double confirm it. if we could have that less the last 2 numbers (for your own security) we can confirm.

the negative wire, solenoid cover, plastic positive sleeves-all signs of an '03.

the rear seat is from an '01???????? mmmm!

If your engine has both the item 10 and item 32 in this page from the 2003 parts Manual, then the engine is an 03 model. If it only has the item 10 Oil drain plug then it is an 02 model.

I can't believe I missed this :? . My revised plastics scheme:

01-03 fork guards.

03 or 04 front fender without factory decal.

04 shroud graphics.

04 seat.

01 or 04 rear fender.

Probably all the plastic was taken off an 04 except the fork guards.

There thats better :D

item 10

Hi everyone, i only have item 10, no item 32,the frame no minus last couple of digits is yu7fe4e81300000xx, hope this draws this to a close?

10th digit is the year digit. Yours is "3", which means it is an '03.

That would settle it, would it not?

it's another bitsa! not sure how these things come around but the best thing to do is come out with it straight to clarky and then tell us what he says!

Mabye it´s an early ´03.
First hint that it must be a ´03 was the motorex sticker on the clutch cover.
All the electrical devices for the e-start let me also think it must be a ´03.
Then there is the voltage regulator mounted the splash shield and for sure
you have a 26mm front wheel axle.

I think that´s it...
