Hi folks,

After 10 hours driving with my new 2005 mod. FE650 i changed oil and got a whiining noise/sound from the left side of the enging. The enginge runs perfekt otherwice but this noice makes me a little worried. Have anyone els got this or a solution for this?

Is it just the new oil witch makes the sound more high pitced? and thats why i got this sound?

Hey there Zorrobazz,

The problems I heard of shouldn't pertain to 2005, but a lot of people who complained about a whining noise on the left side found it to be a problem with the sprague gear. It was common in some of the earlier year bikes to have mismatched parts which caused the problem, but like I said, it shouldn't pertain to your year.

Why bring it up then? :D Only because I thought something else might be going on with your sprague gear which would cause the noise.

Did you use a different type of oil?

thanks,
json

Could it be the clutch?

I've got that too, but I realized that the best way to get rid of the noise, was WOT.

Works all the time, with all sort of weird noises in your engine.

I did have a sprague failure on my 05 550 and I did hear a slight noise well before it broke. If you go back and look at my posts from around May or June you will see a thread about it. It was a slight sound that I narrowed down to the kick start area I thought but did nothing about. I had ZERO metal in oil and filter changes and put it off as just engine noise. I was wrong. I think the cause of the failure was the torque limiter, could be wrong and wouldnt be the first time.

Edit/add: I NEVER had any problem with the button starting on the 05 model and i NEVER used the starter to move the bike like I have seen some (JOHN) kt*m guys do.

Not saying this is what you have cause mine is the only 05 failure of this type I have heard about. In fact I havent heard of any failures other than normal wear of the 06 and 05s

Good luck, but let us know

The whining sound, Is it like a tram gearbox whining, like a drunk on a cello, fighting cats, or is it more a hair rising ghostly eerie howling wolf sound?
I got the hair-rising ghostly eerie howling sound from the clutch now and then after a change of oil brand. But only when the clutch was slipping and once the new oil soaked in, which took a couple of oil changes, the daemon was flushed out of the engine and I did not have to take it to the local exorcist.
If the bike is new, why don´t you take it to the dealer and let him listen to it. There is a certain risk of infant death of any product and the dealer will only be happy to prevent it or at least limit the damage as much as possible, if something is wrong with the engine.
I do not know what oil is the first fill on these bikes, what is the oil change history of this bike and what oils were used? Not that I think that I can be of any help here but it would be interesting to know.

Bzilla, it´s funny, the only person I ever saw move a motorcycle with the starter button is named John and the bike was an orange coloured Mattighofen built one.

i think that might be f-boy!!

iiii caaaannnt geeeeeeett nooow wwoonnn toooo sssseeeennnnddd mmeeee aaaa ppppoooosssstttt

youll have real trouble with ya bike if you get f-boy stuck in there whinninnnggiiinnnggg and whiinning
