Slimmer Tank for 2005 FE550E

Hi Guys,

I'm asking this on behalf of a friend with a FE550e 2005. He loves the bike, except the wide fuel tank. I've searched the site and it seems his options are:

- Shrink the tank using a heat gun?
- Get an aluminium tank from Omermoto. (Which I don't think he'll want as it's aluminium)

It also seems that the 2006 tank is slimmer. Is this true? And if so, is it a bolt on fit for the 2005? This would probably be the preferred option if that's the case.

Are there any other options I've missed?

Thanks Guys - great site you've got here, unfortunatley I own a DRZ so I won't really fit in :(

The 2006 plastics are interchangable with the 05. You would have use the 06 shrouds with the 06 tank.
As far as slimmer goes, I cant answer that.

I will also confirm that of which berger also said however from what I have heard, the people that have ridden the '06 bikes cannot tell a difference from that of the later years. I do not have an '06 bike so I cannot say from experience but thats what I have heard. I do not know what the claimed difference in width is but I would assume that it is not noticeable therefor not worth spending the $$$. Just my thoughts and opinion.

Regards,

In the full article of the Dirt Rider 24 Hour, they say that the 2006 tank feels wider, not narrower.

I don't think that an aluminum tank is anything to be afraid of.
If you crash hard enough to damage your gas tank, it will probably be the least of your worries. And aluminum can be repaired.

Personally, I think they look great.

Cheers,

Brett
