So; referring back to the above plus recent thread "nearly had enough" plus any other postings I've made over the last year - here's the lastet installment - really meant for any newbies or mechanically stunted people like me.
"nearly had enough" my last post was ..just come in to get new plug then I'll start it up...well It wouldn't b###dy start. I was distraught as I was close to the end of the road with Husabergs.
Called Taffy hoping he's say..don't be daft - just turn the bike to Mecca and it will burst into life...but he didn't. What he said was the same old..as we know is true - set the valves - get fresh fuel - CHECK THE SPARK.
Well I've never had a really strong spark & I thought this was normal. This time however, after a couple of weak sparks - then nothing. (I discovered the screw attaching the HT to the CDI was sheared so I replaced that - (but that's another story - cheers Joe) and still nothing.
Reluctantly I borrowed may mate (cheers Chris) & his volt meters to check the readings, all as clearly set out on the DOC, but for me this was bordering on goboldy goog - technical jargon, however, it was actually very easy to do if you just follow the directions.
Long or the short of it was, I figured the stator was dead - popped over to Taffy's 24/7 (cheers Taffy) and got a decent 2nd hand one.
Blimey - it sparked like fireworks night. Chucked everything else back on, fuel on - choke out - one twist & release of throttle - pressed the button (hurt leg yesterday trying to kick) burst into life immediatly. Adjusted the mixture & idle screws in accordance the the doc - put my lid & boots on & off I went beaming like a Cheshire cat.
I reckon this has been coming for some time and would suggest that anyone having starting issues MUST check the spark (again). If it's anything other than
strong - do the stator tests. It's not as difficult as it sounds once you get into it.
Cheers for everyones help - I nearly did give up, but I'm confident this is it.
