Any chance you will make any in black to match the 2010's? I saw SERPEXC's the other day. Nice work!

Thanks! No we are going to stay where you can see the fuel. The first 8 were darker and when we asked them to go lighter it caused alot of problems we had to work out. Changing the color is a major ordeal.

Forgot about the being able to see the fuel level. What would you expect from a guy with a black tank

I don't know what number order mine is, but my paypal receipt is June 15th.
Any news on yours yet? As it was ordered 3 weeks before mine you must be ahead of me in the line so I wouldn't expect mine to ship before yours has, though I guess they could both ship the same day as part of a batch.

I didn't get an email with the tracking number at the time when John said mine would ship (over a week ago now) so I've emailed him asking whether it went out as he was going to let me have the number so I could track its progress through UK customs when it gets that far. No reply yet so I don't know whether mine actually shipped or not. I was hoping it would be here this week as I had a couple of other things to fit to the bike and I wanted to do everything in one hit, so I'm still hoping it's in transit and it's just that the email with the tracking details went astray.

Hello Pete this is John Wiser your tank shipped today and I just sent your tracking information. Fyi I have shipped every prepaid tank but two and I am waiting on oversees shipping payment for those I have sold the remainder of tanks to dealers. I am currently having another batch of inserts made to make another production run. I should have tanks in hand again within 3 weeks and I will stay ahead with tanks in stock from that point on. I want to say thanks to everyone that has purchased from 70*. I have been unbelievably busy for the last few months and I have had alot of really good feedback.

Sorry for the late reply. Yes, I received mine last week. Really a nice piece. When you work with it and realize just how many dimensions have to be right with all the fasteners and such, you appreciate the effort that went into it. I modified the install procedure a bit because I have a fan on my radiator and I swung the subframe back first to be able to remove the main tank. No problem. This bike is so modular it's pretty easy.

Great news - thanks John! I've received the tracking number and the FedEx system shows it due here next Tuesday, though Monday's a public holiday in the UK and I don't know whether that date allows for that and for time to make it through customs - nothing anyone can do about that sort of thing anyway but with luck I might have it by the end of next week which would be fine. I'm sure I'll be a regular visitor to the FedEx site in the meantime to see how far it's got!

And yes you're right, I did order a map switch to be shipped with the tank (John mentioned he was waiting for the switches to come in, which was why my order didn't ship out in the batch last week when the tank was ready to go).

FYI, my nearest Husaberg dealer Midwest Racing had heard about these tanks and said they'd like to know how I get on with mine, as they do get some people asking about larger fuel tanks.

Ok, John and Dale what is next on the drawing board at 70Degree Racing?

With beer and sigarettes it only took me 2 hours to install the sub tank.

With the provided HowTo pages I encountered no problems.
However I did not fill up the tanks yet.

I have a tank on order through my dealer (Taskys) and I saw the two he had waiting for customer pickup. Nice work.

There is a guy on Advrider with the front Safari/Aqualine tank and he says he doesn't notice it at all. The thing I like about having the separate tanks is one does not mean you can't have the other, so you don't have to make a hard choice. Also you can remove the Safari tanks if you want or add them as needed.

Can you post up the total UK cost to get the tank to you?

Thanks

Greg

So far its US$399.99 for the tank and US$80 for shipping. My shipment also includes a mapping switch but I don't think that affected the shipping cost so it would probably be US$80 for just the tank. Once it gets here and I find out what customs are going to charge me and what the carriers will charge for the pleasure of collecting whatever customs charge me, I'll post the details (if I've not fainted from shock as usual). I'm not sure if it's always consistent though - a friend of mine orders lots of electrical parts from the far east and he says there doesn't seem to be any pattern to it - sometimes he's ordered the same thing on two separate occasions and one was charged import duty and VAT while the other wasn't, even though the packages were identical. Go figure.

So far my tank has reached Indianapolis, so making progress. :bounce3:

Shipping is insane as I have been doing alot of it lately. You just cant tell. A tank to Australia was $125 just a few months ago and I collected that for shipping but by the time I got the tanks it was $175. I have absorbed alot of shipping costs. I dont know why but with that said I guess that says it all. I quote shipping at cost, I dont intend to make money on shipping.

Hoi that must have been my tank. I just dropped fiddee in your account so we are square now
I have to find some time to install the tank. It's too cold in the garage at night and I'm having too much fun riding on the weekends.

Thanks Davo! I had this happen a few times and felt bad about the wait for the tanks so I just sucked it up. Hopefully we can have a beer together after a good day of riding someday. I really appreciate customers (friends) like you. Thanks again!

IMHO you shouldn't make a loss on shipping!

When stuff arrives in the UK, it is subject to:

  • Import Duty - %age of value according to product type[/*:m:1gu6q0fl]
  • VAT (Tax) - 17.5% of value plus shipping costs (will rise to 20% in New Year)[/*:m:1gu6q0fl]
  • Random amount charged by UK shipping agent [/*:m:1gu6q0fl]

then factor in the vaguries of $/£ exchange rates .....$399 out of your factory gate may well become £399 at my front door - even at that price, I think I want one!!

Greg

I bought a billet fuel cap for a previous bike a while back from the States.
$49.95 for the cap.
$75.10 shipping via UPS.
Around £8 import tax/VAT.
£12 charged by UPS for the privilege of them collecting the £8 on behalf of HM Revenue & Customs.

Actually it wasn't quite that bad as the $75.10 was the original quote for the shipping, and in the end we agreed on a slower service at $35.50. Even so, add it all up and shipping/taxes basically doubled the cost.

I understand your approach to the shipping John as my company is the same - we don't make money on the shipping and if we quote a cost to a customer for something then that's what they pay and we do sometimes have to suck it up where our costs increase unexpectedly (unlike many of our competitors who would alter the quoted price without blinking). Having said that, I'm with Davo on this - I don't expect you to lose money on the shipping so if it cost more than the $80 to ship my tank and mapping switch please let me know.

And Davo, get out there and get that tank fitted mate, then we'll expect a full report with pictures! If it's too cold in the garage just get a good roaring fire going in there (or stoke up the portable barbie) - what could possibly go wrong?

One tip on installing the new tank is to be careful pulling the fuel pump to put in the adapter plate. The wires slip off the fuel pump easily. Too easily in my opinion and especially the flimsy ground connector. I recommend soldering the connection to the fuel pump. Ummm... don't use a torch to do this

Make more tanks!! The word is getting out and more people are wanting them. As stated on our website we are starting our second production run here shortly, got all the tanks out to all the folks that pre ordered and then some.

So we are staying focused on what people want!!!

We should have the tank installation instructions up on the site here very shortly as well.

Dale

We (Husaberg Rallye Racing team) just got 3 of the new 70 Degree Racing subframe fuel tanks to use on this year Safari rallye. The gear looks good and well made, will hook them up next week.

The tanks will go on Ze Helio, David Schwarz and my bikes. Annie Seel dosent need the extra capacity as she is so light on the fuel and easy on the bike.................read very fast but very smooth, she is all about momentum, reminds me of a 125GP racer

So by the end of Sept we will have put the new tanks through about 13,500km rallye racing, so that should be a good test for them, will post feedback of course, but I reckon they will be the goods.

Hey Pete, washed the 570 today and am getting the urge to rip it apart, chek the valves and slam the subframe tank in. :)

Look forward to reading your subframe tank report Gazza
