I guess that it was my memory that has faded over time. CW, Sept. '83, tested an air cooled XL600 at 13.79/94.24 and 103 top speed. Certainly not 110+ mph, but still very high performance for a stock bike. Most of the other bikes however were much slower. I couldn't find anything on the XT600.

Colby has 10,0000 mi. on the 550, all offroad mind you. He changes oil and oil filter religously, clean air filter after every ride. I think he had to put a timing chain in it. The rest of his mileage is on several other bikes (I think he has 3000 + on his FE650) Believe me he spends most of his time riding and a little on maint. I know Rick at BOSS pulls the clutch covers on the new bikes he sells and checks the nuts on the crank and water pump and lock tites them, check with him , but I don't think he's ever had a motor "blow up"

I know there are some who gets alot of miles of them..
I really tought i was going to be one of them myself, because i take good care of the bike and give it alot of TLC..

My biggest discussion with husaberg in norway, is that i claim this is a fabrication fault, and not a maintainence problem..
They tell me that since i have done the services on the bike myself, then it`s hard to get the husaberg fabric to cover the damage.

I cant travel 1,5 hours (one way)to the nearest dealer for each 5 hour service oil change, and even if i did, the nut could loosen anyway!

If this was a maintanence problem, the service manual should tell me to retighten the nut after XX hours. I would do that with pleasure, to avvoid problems. But now i have to pay for the damages myself, because the fabric didnt spend enough locktite on it.

At least, the dealer himself wants to help me out the best he can, and tomorow i`m sending them a part list of all the damaged parts + the parts for a 100hours service ( i call it a main bearing rebuild), and then we`ll see how the story ends..
I might send them the motor as well, to let them change the crank, main bearings, and set the crankfloat for me.

Ola, Check with Rick at BOSS, I think he started checking the nuts on the crank and water pump after getting a notice(service bulliten) from Husaberg about the problem. If you could get your hands on a copy of that it might help you make your point. Good luck

Thanks!

Could anyone link me up to the spare part cataloge pdf file for this 07 FS650?
It seems like all i can find, is for the 2005 and 2006.. Perhaps i could use them as well, but i dont wanna gamble...

I need it to make a detailed part list for ordering parts, and the original book that`s supposed to follow the bike was missing when i bought it second hand :(

Here you go. http://www.husaberg.se/Downloads.33.0.html

Select from 'Spare Parts Manuals'. This covers 07 & 08 models.

Manuals are categorized by geographical area, model, and major subassembly.

Well then.. The motor has been at the husaberg import company`s mechanics, because i didnt want to split up the motor and change the crank myself..

I ripped off everything else myself though.. Top end, clutch, rotor ++..

Now i`m about to start it up again, fully rebuilt.. New crank, new bearings, new balancer, new piston kit (the old one was tired :( )..

How should i break in this "new" motor?

According to my experience the "only" machine elements (of the ones you are replacing now) in need of some breaking in, are the piston rings. And as we are dealing with a hardfaced liner, this is not very crucial. Particles in the oil or sealing lubricant residues clogging the oil strainer are the real threats in my opinion, with everything else being clean and properly assembled, that is. To be a little on the safe side, I would suggest 1 hour of mild running, not using the famous Husaberg-grunt and not revving too much. Change the oil and inspect the oil strainer and you are free to go!

My engines (2003-model) see approximately 10-20 total rebuilds during their life cycle. So I try to make sure there is oil "everywhere" before firing it up after each rebuild. I use my starter rollers to turn the engine around with sparkplug disassembled (yet connected and igniting) until oil comes out of the air bolt on top of the filter and out of the little bolt on one of the rocker shaft bushes/covers on the right side of the cylinder head. Yes, this may be considered "overkill" to the vast majority of UHE.

Sounds about like my own thoughts as well..

Everything is oiled in, and i`m waiting for the locktite to harden the nuts for primery gear++ now before i fill it with fluids. 24Hours now, but i think i`ll wait untiil tonight or tomorrow to be sure. This f*cking primery gear nut scares me now.

Thinking about firing up the motor for 10min, change oil, ride 1 hour, change oil, and then gradually increase the funfactor :)

Motor fired up, and the first 10min ride done :) Oil changed, and water checked.

I`ll do a longer run tomorrow, to test it more. It`s cold over here, and i need to mount the Ice race tires first :)

So far, i`m happy with no faults.. Lets hope it keeps that way.
