FS vs FE oil level differences for <08 and 70° bikes as well

I've got marks on my garage floor I put my tires on to facilitate consistent oil level checks. All this time I've kept the level at the bottom of the window or 2-3mm higher when cold and level.

I never really paid much bother to the difference in attitude that the FS has.

So I goes and swaps wheels to 21/18 and it needed about 3 ounces (60ml) to come up to the same level in the glass.

I measured the distance from the ground to center of the axles and it's about identical. The rear is a pirelli MT43 (a tall tire). The front is a MT-21 I think it's a 90/90-21. With a 18" 120 or 130 rear the attitude would be even more different than with 17's. So dirt wheels, the front is usually a little taller whereas it's a lot smaller with 17's.

The 17's, the front is a fair bit smaller (one inch in radius) and drops the engine down enough to make quite a bit of difference in observed oil level.

Landing the plane now… I've been running it a little low on oil all this time. :(

If the FE oil level is spost to be at the bottom of the window or a few mm above, that means there should be around 1/4 to 1/3 of the glass covered with supermoto wheels fitted. (cold with bike level.)
This should be the case with any make of bike converted to a motard.

I noticed the same issues when I used to double duty with my fs650e.

The 17" front tire sits about 2" lower than the 21" thus changing the angle of the motor and will show more oil in the sight glass.

When I used to go offroading I used to add about 100mls of oil just to be safe. If I overfilled it it would just blow it out the breather pipe.

in my eyes 60mls is'nt something to worry about. when your driving the oil get pushed to the back of the motor anyways.

my oil window is always full, engine is tipped over

to check it i have to put the bike on a stand and adjust it so the frame rails are level

now I just put 1.2L in every time and it works real nice, I kick the bike over about 40 times with the drainplug out and again to prime it once i refil so i get more oil out than most but not all of it, on a full rebuild i need 1.7L

that puts the oil about halfway up the window "conventionally" speaking.

I know there was the berg factory tech bulletin about running only 800ml etc etc ..while it might be enough IMHO it is a bit low considering what you can actually fit in there without any ill effects.

So it's not necessary to prefill the filter I take it?

that's right although 50 - 60 kicks would be a better bet if you changed the filter

I go 20 -30 hrs on the filters 3-4 hrs on the oil
