Front end searching

Oh i wish!!it turns out my injury was much worse, a proximal humerus fracture and damage to my rotator cuff, i still have problems sleeping, i start physio next week, I'm beginning to get some movement, but the pain is relentless.
I can only just hold my arm up over my head for a moment, and movement is severely restricted, i have 30% strength and 40% movement, the doctors said it would be a slow process, however the bone's healing well.
i apply heat and ice in the evenings which seems to help, but because its very difficult to sleep i feel exhausted, and find myself power napping just to get by.
I have no intention of jumping ship to another steed,i intend to iron it out and solve the problem, and have had some wonderful advice from several members on here and friends who ride and race, and as soon as i can ride again I'm going to test test test.
but this weekend I'm off to watch the pros over in buxton with the fast Eddie extreme with some of my friends, who incidentally have been trying to coax me back albeit prematurely :D

Good luck, Johny.

I dislocated my kneecap in May, it was intense, probably not as serious as your shoulder, but 12 weeks later I was racing. It still hurts a little at times, but less and less each day. I didn't stay off of it from day 1, I pushed it as hard as I could every day. And I'm an old guy, so hang in there, you'll be riding again soon.

Also, this thread prompted me to get my suspension worked out. It's a lot better, but the kid put a really soft spring on the back. I just changed it out myself. Supposed to be nice tomorrow, so I'll give it a try.

Next time it's going to Dale, I'll bite the bullet on packing and shipping, I want someone who understands this stuff conceptually, and knows Husabergs. Shoulda done it this time, but I wanted to give the kid a chance to redeem himself.

It's ok through the day it's through the night that's the problem it just throbs all night I've gone to bed with ice and still suffered, very strange injury but fingers crossed it'll start improving swiftly with Physio and I think dale is the right man for the job

i feel your pain and frustration john
having been there and unable to ride for 5 months
Photo0087-1.jpg

that was the result of a trip over the bars
the shoulder still hurts after almost 2 years

any hoo back to the issues of front end stability and my attempt at trying to solve this, i basically softened the front end as much as possible and lifted the forks through the yokes until they almost touch the bars (oh also make sure the rear sag has been set properly) the up shot is improved handling but not perfect, on a full tank of fuel i couldnt ask for a better bike but the moment i get a half tank the forks feel like i'm riding with broom handles for forks, so next i plan to change the fork oil from 5w to 2.5w then if that does not work then change the springs and return to 5w oil

that looks worse than mine, and keep us posted about the handling m8 :D

Well I've gone and traded my beloved 450 for a blue 300, i just couldn't take another huge off like the last one.
The bone's healed well, but I'm booked in for surgery on march the 15th, i just couldn't take the pain anymore and received a cortisone injection, which helped ease the pain enough for me to catch up on my sleep.

I've got improved movement apart from above the shoulder. without question the worst injury to date!!
anyway i rode the 300 red power valve spring and all, on a very wet deep rutted track, very anxious for the 1st 20 minutes or so then,i just did what come's naturally i relaxed and enjoyed myself over the fallen trees, up the greasy climbs, i pretty much rode everything that I'd ride healthy, until my arm faded and got tired, Jesus what fun, god i love bikes husabergs TBH.

anyway there's more than a few people on this forum who's opinions i value, and I'd just like to say a big thank you this is what this forum is all about and the forum would be worthless with out you all, and I've benefited with improved knowledge of bike characteristics.......well hopefully thank you again boys

Yep, older bodies, and old and new injuries, been there...........

Just a warning with the cortisone. I had a knee arthroscope a few years ago, no4, and 6 months later still had swelling and pain. Got 80 ml of fluid drained off it and had a cortisone injection. Felt like new, fantastic. Went for a ride the next weekend and whilst riding over a log jarred it a bit. No dab, no crash, but lots of pain. Did the ACL. Turns out the cortisone among other things lubricates and weakens the joint. Be aware.

Good luck with the new toy,
Steve

I've no idea how to put pics up nik
And the cortisone is a little scary I can still feel the damaged tendons when I lift or stretch my arm it's been 3 months so I'm hoping the arthroscopy cures it permenantly

Hi mate

Just want to say I feel your pain, I had a high side crash through a deep rutted sweeping right hand bend on my 09 fe570, was in the right wheel track which was rock hard dry clay and the wheel skipped to the left and railed on the side wall of the rut which threw my left sholder into the far square edge of the left wheel rut. Had full armour on and it snapped my humours bone in two between my sholder and elbow was sone horrific pain and 6 weeks off work after all is said and done I thought the pain meds side effects includin not sleeping were worse than the inital crash pain. Was practically an insomniac for 6 weeks and that really messes you up also didnt help watching enduro vids and not being able to go for a blast afterwards. Husabergs are awesome bikes I love mine.

Stiffer springs have helped handling considerably.

Raced Sunday, the big difference is that I can hold a line much better, ruts are no longer a problem, handling is overall predictable. There might be a little more to be gained by going stiffer, but I need to check my sags carefully and go from there.

What isn't different is that I'm still bottoming front and rear, although not as bad, and I get worn out very quickly. I'm not in terrible shape, really, and I'm not that bad a rider either. But, from RaceTech, "Remember that if you make the suspension too soft you will use lots of energy just maintaining direction, and control." So I know I need more damping, I'm still running out of suspension too soon, and still fighting it too much. At least at this point, it is possible to control it.

I went down one hill that I knew I couldn't do, very steep with whoops carved in by the previous riders. I made it OK, even with mistakes (pulled clutch in, egad!!!!) Later, reflecting on that, I know that last year, the suspension would have bottomed hard very early, and pitched me off, and I'd been sliding down that hill on my chin. Happened every time. last year, I just didn't realize it then...

Its funny really because i think a stiffer spring on the rear would of cured mine, Its 5 weeks since my surgery and the pain is subsiding slightly, now Ive got lots of rehabilitation to get myself back to some sort of fitness

And then i can start riding again, all in all this is an injury i hope i never have again, keep searching for the perfect settings :D

Glad you're doing better, J.

Suspension is nothing to screw around with, it's serious business!
