If the berg event is held in South Central or South West Central Colorado I may be able to help out.
I will be riding that area early next month. I will be happy to post some photos of what I see.
Also the Taylor Park area is great. The section between Crested Butte and Brush creek will blow your mind.

So if there is anything that I can do to help this event. Please contact me.
Regards

We haven't settled on anyplace yet, so I would tell you to show what we would have to look forward to and what accommodations are available to us.

Thanks for stepping up and offering an alternative.

Mike

I'm not trying to drive anything here. I am only offering to help out if the event happens to be near to where I live.

us Canucks are all in on Colorado.....we like thin air and Bob's chili ( lets hope they don't legislate against its contribution to Green House Gases!!! ) and to heck with gas prices, cheapest gas we can buy is in the US....No whiners Willy!!!

Well...I think it's time for an official poll.

json??

I 2nd that motion.

Here are some locations for the poll.

Moab, Utah, Gunnison, CO., or Silverton, CO.

Any others to add Berger?

Mike

I think as far as CO. goes Gunnison seems to be somewhat in the middle of the area we are interested in. I think Silverton, Ouray, Taylor park, Crested Butte are all reasonably close to Gunnison.

Moab, Gunnison area and China Hat seem to have the most interest.

Anyone else??

Force Ride 3 Location

We've been kicking this around for months, let's get a final decision based on a non-scientific pole...

Depending on the snow pack typically June is out for Colorado high country. This year it is just starting to open up. Some of the ride reports still have snow in them. So MidJuly to August is a better time frame.

Oh, and one more thing. Colorado checks bikes for registration. I've been checked almost every time that I have ridden up there. The forest service typically spend their time on some of the more well traveled FRs.

Equipment is not the big issue here. The minim for getting plated is lights and horn. A hand powered horn is typically good enough. I have never been checked for DOT tires. Registration and insurance is always checked. If you have an off road plate. You may still be required to buy an OHV sticker in CO. And you will be asked to haul your bike to the trial head.

Again I am trying to stay netural. I like riding in all the places that you are considering.

this is about the third time a similar thread has been started. the main issue is not where we have it but whos goin to organise it where ever we have it. we can all decide to have it in 'A' but its no damn good if no one knows the area or is not close enough to do some on the ground organising.

I believe we have a level of committment from the 3 main areas involved. Thats why they are on the poll.
Once we have an area pinned down, I and members like myself can begin the organization.
The organization can be done from a distance. Committment from ride leaders (guides) is the touchy part. I feel confident we can get it covered in any of the above areas. I do believe that China Hat (Oregon) may have the most difficult logistics as far as lodging ect..

Once we pick the location, then we can pick the date. All of these locations would seem to have seasonal restrictions wether it be too hot or too cold etc..

Pick a place and I will do my best to make it happen. I had never been to Moab before the first 2 Force Rides and I think it turned out well on both occasions. I have never been riding in CO but I am sure a truly great event can be arranged there. We have enough members living there to make it happen and I have several members in my local club that go there every year.
If it's Oregon, BOSS has put on several large events up there.

Soo......kindy cast your votes ladies and gentlemen.

thr only vote I am gong to make is:

NO TO MOAB

BTDT enough

Any of the others will be fine with me and you can count me in for the ride and help any way I can
Bob

Like I said I will help out in Colorado. I have friends who live and ride in the Durango area. I am headed up there in a couple of weeks for the ADVrider.com West Fest rally. I've ridden the Taylor park area before.

To get to WF I will be riding my Berg cross country from Los Alamos NM to Lake City. This route will give me acess to the area south of Gunnison. I've ridden the major passes in the area around Lake City and Silverton area.

The maps that I rely on when I am riding in the area are the Latitude 40 series. And the local Forest Service maps.
The Latitude 40 maps include Gunnision, Crested Butte, Aspen. Crested Butte and Taylor park map. There are two more for western Colorado.

The webside is www.Latitude40maps.com
For the FS maps just go to the http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/

We have issues with camp sites in Western Colorado.
They tend to want to book us in the off season. Then when the event comes near they want to add all sorts of costs for being there. They also try to add restrictions for bikes and camp fires.

Four years ago we booked the KOA out of Ouray for WF. We were farily quite but the camp site tried to put us close to other campers. It did not work well at all.
Two years ago we booked a site just north out of Buena Vista CO. That went better. We were lucky to have a site near the back side of the camp ground set a side for us. Keep us away from the other campers.
Last year we had WF at Sipapu NM. The riding is good but not as good as Colorado. The hosts at Sipapu host several bike events a year. They know what bikers need and are real good people.
This year WF is being held at the Texan near Lake City. It's costly. They are jurking us around. They want to charge extra for trucks and tents. Now they want a large deposit. The event has yet to be held. But at this time I am worried about how it will turn out.

We also have a camp or two right out in the National Forest. There are areas were we can camp with numbers of 50 to 75 people without needing a permit. Typically came fires are allowed. And shows can be had by driving to town finding a pay for camping site and paying 3 or 4 bucks.

I feel that we can learn from past problems. A few things that I feel will help inlcude.
Writting a good contact up front. One that lets the camp site know what exactly to expect. And to get the fees in writting.

Spending time at the camp site once the summer season starts. Visiting the site a few times before the event allow for the people to get to know you. That seems to go along way to building trust.

Having a good list of demands going in. We need to know what we want. This years WF fees are almost all going for food. Camping fees were left up to the indivual. This has not worked well.

As far as riding goes. We need someone to ride trails before the event. Last year I rode and mapped almost every rideable trail and FR in Northern New Mexico for WF. We had a local website host post the GPS tracks. There wasn't a very good map resource for northern NM so tracks were needed.

I am willing to helpout with all the topics that I covered. I can also help provide a Grill. I can help with other origional activities. But in the end I think that a event such as this. We need more than one person to pull it off. A small team of equal players could share the work load and host a really good event.

Please remember that I am not trying to promote any one area. I am new to this site. And feel that I am not a strong member. I am ok with any place that is chosen. I will try to make this event. I missed the one last year. And I don't want to miss this one.

Welcome aboard Hair. That was some solid input.

Yo Berger, This place looks pretty good if Gunnison is the VOTE! Nice cabins $54-$181 a night, not bad if you bunk a few together. Only 15 minutes from town and Trout fishing out the front door. Can handle 86 in a group so the H-berg cut-off should be 15 +/-(Canucks & Brits). LOL

daleO knows cheeseberger. perhaps give him a call as he doesn't visit here regularly?

great attitude fry - a clincher i think just as some (quite understandably) wobbled!

as has been mentioned before, its not about bigger is better. that was one helluvan effort last time and not something wqe should come to expect. pick a great rider location and those that want to be there wll and thats that!

if we sort moab or the two CO sites soon then we have to pick a time of year. is it worth deciding colorado or moab initially?

regards

Taffy

Call it for Gunnison
We can get Fritz to scout it up adn get some tracks together. Absolutely beautiful location and the fishing is good also.
I want to get out of the desert a bit.
Plus they got real beer and other refreshments.

Spark it up

I feel a Rocky Mountain High comming on.

Just pick between Colorado and Oregon .
Come on Queenie: lets get with it

A link to a San Juan ride report from over on Advrider.

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=364815

Enduro-ince lives and rides in the western San Juans. He recently has switched from a 640 to a 450 exc. Now he is on a mission to ride all of the trials that he never could ride before.

I linked the ride report so you could get an idea of what the trails are like in the Central and Western San Juans.

Howdy, Went to Silverton yesterday found an R/V park much like Slickrock has cabins and motel rooms , some have kitchens for those that don't want to eat out every meal it is located on the south end of town, but everything (shopping, grocerys, bars etc...) is with in a short crawling er..... walking distance. check out www.redmtmotelrvpk.com I will post up some pictures I took yesterday a bit later today. Also Colby (Cheeseberger) has scheduled a ride up that way Aug 2nd so maybe we can get some pics of some of the trails soon.

Wouldn't we want to stay closer to the Gunnison/Taylor Park/Crested Butte area? Just asking.
