nice one M
there's nothing like the buzz you get from starting a newly built engine
is it not customary for you to utter expletives and punch the air enthusiastically on a first start ?
or run around naked in the snow lighting firecrackers or something ?
cheers

NOW. the 450. I said it 6-7-8 years ago. THERE'S SOMETHING NOT RIGHT ABOUT THE 450. the compression is either way too high for the big end to cope or the ignition timing is wrong.
either way, far too many big ends go.

Taffy
Taffy is a problem you noticed in all the years of production?Taffy is a problem you noticed in all the years of production?
Is it only in 2004? Or notoriously this year?
I ask because in 2005, they changed CDI unit and maybe it was related to the bad timing?
Hi Makazica, - great thread - you really went to town on this re-build. Hope I can do the same. Either way will use this as a guide as well as the manuals as every tip helps. As I said earlier - if you don't know you don't know.

Re not starting after cleaning - unless I start it straight away after cleaning its a bugger 1st time. I think damp gets in the stator cover & or settles in the carb if allowed to sit after a clean.
I know Taffy always drills a small hole in the bottom of the stator casing to allow damp to drain.
