My mom did when I was a kid. I figure the least I could do is show them in every photo taken of me.

Charles has a different theory. He thinks I do it to hide my extra chins.

True that...!

I am going through major trip-cancel remorse.... :(

Well, next time, eh! E-Ticket

Whomever came up with the idea to send us a T-shirt is a brilliant marketing genius! I have to find away to make it next year!

I've got a ton of people to thank who helped me after my accident. First off, thanks to everyone who made sure I was stable at the accident scene and got me back up the hill while I was strapped to the backboard. I was in and out of it due to shock and hitting my head, and everyone did a great job trying to keep me awake. I know Dale and Colby were there, but obviously many others as well. I got better care from the Husaberg guys at the scene than I did from the EMTs (who were good too).

Dale went and got my wallet from my RV and brought it back up to the hospital that night, called my wife, made sure I was ok until I was admitted. Fritz and Vicki came to see me in the ER, and Colby and Matt came by the hospital both days I was there to check on me. I think others came to check on me as well, but I don't remember. I have no idea how my bike got to Fritz's shop, but one of Fritz's guys delivered it back to me Saturday at the campground. They also kept up with my backpack and personal things. Thanks to everyone at Gunnison Motorsports, you guys frickin' rock.

I was told that Vicki made sure I got my fair share of all the donated swag, which was hand delivered to me at the RV as well. I am very appreciative of that. I won a Husaberg shirt donated from Kurt at BikeBarn--thanks to him and all the other vendors that supported the raffle.

All my clothes were cut off of me, so when it was time to get out of the hospital, one of the nurses found me some scrubs, got me dressed, and took me to get my Meds and then took me back to the campground. That was very nice of her to do that.

I only did one day of the ride, but what I did was outstanding. Thanks to Clay and his gang at Husaberg NA for the hard work bringing the bikes from Tennesee. I was one of the first ones out on the moto track, and I rode every single bike. The 2010 Husabergs are the best bikes I have ever ridden, and I will have one soon. I got to ride some single track with Fritz that day as well, which I always enjoy. The whole event raised the bar, so thanks to Dale, Dez, Ossaman, Gunnison Motorsports, Husaberg, and everyone else. I'll never ride another brand of bike!

Anyway, every group ride has to have a designated idiot, and I fit the bill this time unfortunately. My crash was 100% rider error. Five broken ribs, a broken collarbone, and a broken scapula is the damage. The collarbone may be surgical-- I will know by Thursday this week. I am much better than I was a week ago--the ribs being my only issue really.

Again, thanks to everyone who helped, looked after me, and made sure I got off the side of that mountain. I'll never forget it, even if I don't know most of your names. See ya'll in two years, and next time I'll be riding the whole time!

OMG I hope you get better soon. Maybe I ought to re-think going to Colorado, as I am usually the idiot in the bunch. Yow, that would certainly make for a bad day. How well did the bike fair?

I have not even looked at the bike. It is still locked up in my enclosed trailer, sitting in the driveway. Can't do anything to it until my ribs allow me to move around somewhat consistently. I'll have it back as good as new regardless, as long as it is fixable.

John, I have been told that broke ribs are the most painful injury. Keep your chin up.
On Labor day I had a low speed crash that jammed my bars into my gut and I still cant get any good sleep. I can only imagine what you are going through. I suppose it could have been worse.

John, Hope your recovery is swift, sounds like a nasty one. at least when you chose to bail you were in good company. Berg riders are some of the most dedicated I have ever met and I mean in all phases of riding, your story just accentuates it. You have left out one small detail......... How the hell did you get home ? Hope you are back in the saddle soon !

Funny story about the trip home, well it's funny now. My brother came up with my wife from Lubbock late Sunday to get me. He was going to drive the motorhome back with me in it, and my wife pulled my enclosed trailer back with her Tahoe to make it easier for him to drive my old POS motorhome, complete with failing U joints and already marginal brakes. So, the plan was to leave out Sunday evening and drive as far as we could stand. We left Gunnison around 7:00 pm or so.

My brother overheated the brakes going down the east side of Monarch Pass and it was deja vu all over again. Believe me by that time I already had a healthy respect of what happened when you shot off the side of a cliff in Colorado, and did not care to replay the scenario again. We got it stopped on the side of the road, and I calmly 8O went over once again how to drive an old RV down one of the steepest passes in Colorado. We had no further incidences.

We laid over for a few hours in the WalMart parking lot in Trinidad, and got back home mid day Monday. It was a long trip, and I was pretty agitated the whole time. Thanks to my brother for taking the time to come and get me and putting up with me the whole time without beating my crippled ass. I love ya man.

Thanks for all the well wishes. Hopefully i will be back riding in no time.

Glad to hear you are in such good spirits. If you do need surgery on the collarbone, at least you are in the same state as dr mark sanders. After a failed surgery here in idaho I had him fix my collarbone properly. It is worth the trip to houston to have it done right by someone that understands the physiology of motorcyclists injuries and recovery.

Thanks Mark. I'm bummed I didn't get to ride with you and Colby. We have some really good Ortho Drs here. My Dr. is the team physican for Texas Tech althletics, so he has fixed a bone or two. I know Dr. Sanders is good too. I've actually had some correspondence with him in the past. I didn't know he fixed your collarbone.

John,
I learned of your unfortunate incident when DaleEO arrived to ride with some friends and I in Stanley, Idaho. I hope you heal real fast buddy! I missed seeing you and my other Husa pals at FR3. Get well soon and keep your chin up. You'll be back on your scoot in no time! Hopefully we'll be seeing you at FR4.

For a skilled rider, the riding is better in stanley anyway. did u guys get up to custer lookout at all? I cleared a bunch of the deadfall in that area in august. The rest of the stanley area was cleared earlier, by others tho, so i can take no credit for the valley creek area or trap creek, or casino.

We didn't get up to Custer lookout this time. We do however, appreciate all the hard work you, Tresa and your many comrades do in keeping the technical Idaho trails in good shape!

Thank you!

I am starting to add some of my pictures over the next few days.
As for the ride reports there is not much for me to say, as my eyes were closed 90% of the time.
CO will make you re-evaluate what great trail riding is and what true ability you have
They were open this time...a rare moment when Ken lets his guard down and shows he has a big heart under that grumpy old man act. lol

here's all I got except for the last days in which I will never had as my camera is lost/stolen from Pheonix airport. We'll see how honest the world is. My bet is by by camera.

Brad,

That's a drag about your camera. I can't see the photo's here from work. I have a copy of your card from last dinner, do you want me to burn you a copy and send it to you?

Dale
