F3 Ride Reports and Pics

So, it sounds like that the Gunnison area could be used again quite easily for next year's F4 ride?

{ ... HINT- HINT...!!} :^)

FR's have historically run every other year, to allow everyone(especially those coming from overseas) time to recoup and plan.

I completely understand.
But shouldn't everyone be circling 2011 on their calendars now?

(big grin)

every 2 years is good though we gotta make sure we're all in the same camp. pretty much everyone who was at moab said that being split between 2 camps wasn't as good.

as for circling calenders the only thing set in is the year so feel free to circle 2011.

I'd cast my vote for oregon. closer, and spreads the spotlight around to another dealer or two.

+1 on the 1 camp idea.

I hope we can similar support from husaberg in the future, but the bar was set pretty high this year. I really liked the opportunity to demo the new bikes. Hopefully lots of non-bergers got to demo them as well, and talk with longtime berg-owners to help their decision making process.

There's a place here in Tennessee that could be used with one camp site. It's called Cumberland Mountain. It's between Huntsville, Alabama and Winchester, Tennesse. It's on top of the Cumberland Plateau. Two 20 mile loops, one 30 mile loop and a 40 mile loop on 17,000 acres. I know that doesn't sound like much compared to western standards but 30 miles in the tight trees is a lot. Can you western guys ride in the trees? :)

clay,
rode for a bit here in vegas with a guy from the south , bba from hickhucksters [great guy & rider], who actually rides a mountain bikes 30+ ft in the tree back there.
not to paint y'all as that red-lime-eyed southern extremist, but how close are these trees?
loved the singles in the birches at fr3, missed the cheers around the fire though , so this one site is a big plus imho.
which sounds better fr4.5, fr5, or fr1south?
great to meet the husaberg team and enjoy the support [sponsorship, demos, etc.].thanks.

tuts

I've read about it and ridden with a guy here that has gone. He raved about it. A couple years ago, we had a get-together in WV. While it didn't have the numbers of a FR, it was a blast.

30 miles in the trees is an eternity at my speed. They've sent rescue teams out after me on our 6 mile loop that we have here.

jAson,
if this happens, and you can't make it, i'll swing by and spend a week or so with you and the family!

Awesome, man! We'd love to have you!

On a completely unrelated note and just in passing, how comfortable are you with hanging drywall?

.

i can rock pretty good.
i'm not real fast and i'm not real slow....i'm 1/2 fast.
screws or nails, railroaded or standard, 1/2" or 5/8", green or regular, rounded or square corners,?? i probably should set up my trailer in your yard...this might take a while.

The trees are pretty tight. I cut my bars down about 3/4 inch from each side. The cool part about this place is that is has a decent mix. It will have a tight section then it will open up a little so that you can rest, then it gets tight again. It's a blast to ride but then, I like the tighter trails. Loop three and four open up and have more old two track. When the trail goes off of the plateau, it can get pretty rocky.
The camp is down the road. The guy who owns the camp has a huge barn with a stage. It has hooks ups and primitive sites plus cabins across the road. There is a connector trail from the camp to the trails. There is a store about two miles down the road where the essentials (beer) can be purchased. They also serve lunch and b'fast.
The only bad part this time of year is the heat. The freakin' humidity is about 99% now. It may be better to do a ride there in April or May.
One cool thing....there is a big creek there that runs into a "sink" and disappears into the ground.

Great photo's and reports guys......... really jealous now having done a bit of mountain biking in Colorado years ago.

Is the Ride T shirt available to non attenders?

I have never felt the need to cut my bars down nor have I ever hit either tree in my riding area's. Tree's are a destination, not a hazard
Example: Ride this singletrack for about 8 miles untill you come to a tree, take a break, then make a right down the wash 4 miles to the next tree.
Now cactus....that's a different story

Is the Ride T shirt available to non attenders
sometimes its not even available to the paid up attendees

i missed ya dez, but there was an old coot there that i could talk to. and he was even older than us 8O

I think the FR rides should be at a different location each time. From someone who has to travel a long ways to get there I would like the oportunity to see new places. This was my first trip to Colorado and I will be back there next fall with my bike for a longer stay. Such a beautiful place. Fly fishing and dirt biking. Going to be my vacation destination for 2010. If folks want to meet up in Colorado there's no reason why we can't do it outside of a FR ride. Thanks to all!
