hi all
i have a 99 501 where the decompression system is operated by the kick start mech,
good idea i imagine but i cant get along with it.
is there a mod or any way in fitting a handlebar decomp system off another bike that anybody has done instead of the kicker mech?
also im after another kickstart lever as mines benter then a bent thing resulting in my foot slipping off alot of the time.
many thanks :

Yes.
Change the camshaft activated decomp to the "Dutch clog"
K*M partnr. (ugly word K*M)

590.36.016.000 (decomp)
590.36.017.000 for the spring.
If you don`t get along with it, change to at "buttonbike"

The 501 with kickstarter is for men and not for whimps ;-)

thanks jampe
i asume those numbers are part numbers for lever and cables??
the 501 kickstart sure is for men.it put my friend in hospital yesterday 8O

it shouldn't be too difficult to find an aftermarket lever and cable assy. there was even a stock one for the '98 which is the same as yours (clamp 170-022-01, cable 170-023-01, lever 170-027-01). and your engine should have the L shaped lever so the upper one can be connected.
i agree. on the early models with only the kicker actuated one, its hard to start. with the manual, you can position it just past tdc quite easily.

just the job,thanks ned
now sorry if i seem a bit simple,i assume these numbers are husaberg part numbers :?
im new to the berg scene so i guess it is just the nak of getting it going.
iv replaced the plug, stator re-wound and new coil[thanks taffy] and have had it going but when i do get it to start i think its pure fluke.
is there any hints/tips to getting it to go........pre flight checks so to speak??
cheers

They are KTM part numbers, and thats enough to get the bike easy to start.
No need for cable and lever.

Hello Steve

suggest as Jampe says that you go straight to an auto decomp mechanism on the cam. take a huge leap of faith and remove the kickstart cable decomp and even the manual decomp from the bars. block off the hole in the head, block off the hole in the back of the cases and this will give the bike a cleaner look.

you'll need to have either the centre of your aluminium cam sprocket scolloped out or get a steel and then you must also have 2mm removed from the shoulder of the cam. this will allow the later ADC to work.

you'll also need to open the decomp spring by 90 degrees to make it stronger. they simply aren't strong enough.

finally, while the kickstart decomp mechanism is being removed I would do the sledge mod as it is really worth it on the pre 2001s.

regards

Taffy

Taffy,By sledge mod you mean getting sledgehammer and putting end to it,for good...;)

I would take taffy's advice i have 2 bergs 1 with the old system it works ok but the cam system is far better it's just like starting a bike that has no compresion at all.
