From the latest 450cc Enduro shootout in ADB magazine:

"Once we sorted a sticking glide plate issue on the gearbox's selector drum, the Bergs shifting was positive and reliable"

Unbelieveable!! One of the most known Husaberg gremlins that has been experienced by many and its still occuring on the 07 bikes ??? How can this be?

You would think that a problem that has been occuring since the 02 bikes(from personal experience) would have had a positive fix applied to the offending parts by now, wouldnt you?.

Exposure to the fault in a national magazine wont exactly do their sales figures much good either.People considering a Berg will take one look at that shift issue(albeit small) and start wondering.........

Whats the old saying ? "you reap what you sow"

basically like "garbage in = garbage out". The result is determined by your actions !! It is an old saying relating to cultivating - if you sow bad seeds or possibly sow them poorly don't expect anything more than a poor result.

My mate has had his play up twice on his 2006 (sticking glide plate issue) in the space of a year. And it has had to be fixed twice or i should say deburred. He now has no confidence when we go bush as to wether it will happen a third time.

as i read this i am stunned , this does the brand no favours .

it is not just in the magazines that people read this type of report , i notice the 40 to 50 unlogged users online .

people dont really take much notice of good press , its the bad press that does the damage .

Do what they do in husaberg HQ - ignore it and it might go away ??

hey what does this glide plate thingo do. I haven't had any gearbox issues (so far "touch wood") but what happens when it sh*ts itself? my only drama is finding neutral when it's idling but that's more operator than a mechanical issue.

When it sticks you'll be stuck in one gear- bike will not up or downshift.

The fix is quick and easy, but the point of the matter is that its been occuring since at least 02 and it still occurs in the 07s apparently.

hey ferret, your not the only one that has a hard time finding neutral......it seems to be very narrow... but it seems to be a euro thing.

finding neutral has been proved here to be findable as long as the clutch drum is recent and that the plates are checked for being out of shape. get these two right and you might just crack it!

So far finding neutral on my recently purchased '05 FC450 has been a breeze.Hopefully it'll stay that way.

Sometimes my neutral has been hard to find but I have found if I blip the throttle, it will snick right into neutral. It's not just Bergs that have this same issue.

vintage

sorry but it won't.

but forewarned is forearmed and you are able to decide when to do this.

i always rotate the plates when i remove the clutch. probably have the cover off three times per season one way or another. shuffle and turn the steels around like cards.

we all joined UHE for different reasons, mine was for the following:

run the bike as efficiently as possible through

knowledge to save from mistakes with preventative medicine
knowledge to repair cheaply
to make the bike the best it can be within my budget.

i hope vintage, you 'get where i'm at'.

My duck was hard finding neutral sometimes & my aprilia was virtually impossible .Sometimes at a stoplight I would have to kill the motor to get it into neutral.

Taffy...no doubt this site is great to gather info & either find a remedy or prevent something before it happens.I had an '02 FC470 that I had for a season & a half & I never had shifting or neutral issues so I'm hoping the new FC450 will follow suit.If it doesn't I know just where to check to find the cure though.
Overall I can't say my '02 FC470 was any less reliable or finicky then some of the Jap & KTM thumpers I've had since.Mind you I mostly race & ride moto & I'm just a amateur level 40+ guy so perhaps I'm not too hard on the equipment.

i guess anyone can say £smartarse" after the event but we earn our corn if we can say something is wrong before it is corrected. one of them is the basket/drum scenario.

the basket is made of steel i believe - probably coz they 'frag'. but the steels dig their tiny 1mm edges into the aluminium and are then expected to move laterally while you find neutral.

each tooth on that steel has been smashing a groove in the same spot every time for months. can we say groove again?

then we expect the plates to open up!

if they can make a rear sprocket with alloy inner/steel outer they can make a clutch drum the same i reckon?

BTW, i'm going to break a rule here and talk grammer: "&" is for headlines and company names.
