i guess anyone can say £smartarse" after the event but we earn our corn if we can say something is wrong before it is corrected. one of them is the basket/drum scenario.

the basket is made of steel i believe - probably coz they 'frag'. but the steels dig their tiny 1mm edges into the aluminium and are then expected to move laterally while you find neutral.

each tooth on that steel has been smashing a groove in the same spot every time for months. can we say groove again?

then we expect the plates to open up!

if they can make a rear sprocket with alloy inner/steel outer they can make a clutch drum the same i reckon?

BTW, i'm going to break a rule here and talk grammer: "&" is for headlines and company names.

I was just relating my own experience and(is this better) not disagreeing that there is the potential for this recurring problem.
BTW, let me say that's probably the last "and", I'll spell out here so enjoy it.

Don't let Taffy or anyone else run you off. Your input is valuable.

As for my  gesture:
I was chuckling "with" Taffy as he let the thread wad his panties. I laugh as I have done the same more than once.

Dale,
No sweat.I'm here for the long haul.Husaberg's reliabilities problems are well documented so I thought I'd throw a good ownership experience into the mix.Silly me

Hey guy's just new to this site so be gentle. Brought a new '06 450e bout 10 months ago now. 2000kms 50hrs and not one single problem with it. :D Could say, so sick off waiting on top off the hill for all these broken down KTM'S. Now all my mates see husaberg in their eyes. But now you telling me about a Glide thingy. My fears off breaking down now have increased. To scared to take it out now. Is it something that triggers this glide thing to fail. Example type off riding, lack of oil changing.

well fella you need to know what we are on about before you get your knickers in a twist! the plate needs two minutes work on the odd occasion it happens. if you haven't had a problem then fine!

it will start with false neutrals and the mindset "it must be me i'm sure i kicked it hard enogh for 3rd gear?"

so chill. go find the plate in the doc and you'll see that you panic a bit too easily...

shift plate

thought my shift plate was burred up so i ordered a new one from my closest dealer, turns out two of the dowl rods in the shift drum had worked their way out, one went between the clutch gear and oil pump gear(shattered the oil pump gear). I know i could file the burrs and it will be good as new, but figured if i'm gonna break the case off i might as well put a new one in. the new shift selector was noticibly thicker than the old one,not only did it not fit right but it wouldn't slide at all. I ended up having to file the old one and reinstall it. but anyway as far as I know there is no other damage, thank god the dowl didn't run into my cam chain and wreak havoc there. as soon as i couldn't shift i shut it down, otherwise without any oil being circulated who knows what woulda happened. Ended up replacing 2 dowl pins, the star that holds the dowls in and an oil pump gear. I know that years ago it wasn't a good idea to run dirt bikes on the road as it was hard on the clutch plates and motor, i have licensed my 99 fe400 but am leary of riding it on pavement because of that reason and this latest episode. I was riding on the road coming home from work when the dowls came loose. have they engineered some give into the clutch for road use ? as far as i know i have the same clutch plates the bike came with from the factory. i guess it doesn't matter as i bought an original "crotch rocket" off ebay a twin 2 stroke. got a 77 yamaha rd400 in great condition for road use now. had a 73 rd200 in high school, can't wait to see what this rd 400 will do !!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: shift plate

osubuckeye

i have put personal photos in the doc of the early and late selector shift plate and also an explanation of what it took to fit the later shifter mechanism.

if you run nobblies you have a cushdrive already.

I've never had a shifting issue with mine but I must cruise over to the doc and have a look in case it happens sometime. As far as them being hard to get in neutral,IMO,who cares? As Kelsow says, blip the throttle or shut it off.I read this all the time in magazines about various bikes and never understood the issue.I consider it a huge positive compared to my previous KTM's that didn't want to shift 1-2 or 2-1 without spending some time in neutral first-usually when leaned over, foot out, in mid-corner

the answers to finding neutral are now well established. trouble is getting feedback from newer or the sparser users.

all,
finding neutral is very, very easy if you follow this procedure.....
start to climb up a difficult hill in 1st gear
and then
get to a point were you must catch 2nd, now shift.
that's it, now you are in neutral.
tuts

NO NO NO that all wrong wait until all of your budies want to race you on your new 650 start in first then as fast as you can shift in to neutral three[ times in a row ] and from that point on you'll never have a problem finding neutral. Most people dont realize that husaberg's also come with a sense of humor so you must trick them just make it think you really want 2nd {get's it every time I }

you're all wrong!

put the front wheel against the wall, rev the balls off it whilst keeping your hand well clear of the clutch, then kick into gear.

now you have a choice of neutrals.....!

Neutral is easy to find....kill the engine, rock the bike back & forth for a minute or 2 & get back on the starter. Too easy

I've checked my plates & clutch basket & with no sign of wear I still cant find neutral whilst the bike is running.

Only other way I know of is to attack a very steep & long hill & either try changing down from scond or up from first...you'll find neutral every time...guaranteed.

I think I was just insulted-or not.You know Taff,if you Brits could just learn proper English,us Colonials would have a much easier time figuring out what you were actually trying to say. :)

what i mean is, 'we' find a solution and then nobody else confirms wether it's a good idea and works or not.

if (i say if again!) people are trying some of these things well they aren't putting the results up here at UHE!!!!!

dealer ideas and answers? don't make me piss myself with laughter! silence - very good at that!

take this 'wrong' ignition timing mark? that info has been out there 3 years and now we have a couple of people checking it out and then all of a sudden it'll be "oh everyone knows that the timing marks are wrong -that's old hat!". little boys will only now start checking out their lego engines....

get my drift sir?

Thanks for cracking me up.

I find neutral by pushing the bike in 1st gear, then backing up a tad, and popping into neutral with a slight push.

Otherwise I have found myself in accidental neutral more often in the past on a 2 strokes that on the Berg. Even my DRZ found accidental neutral more often.
