Black Rims

I can't curb the desire for Black Rims although I know they'll do nothing for the bike only look bitchin'. I could send the stock excels to TCR Wheel Lacing and have them anodized and re-build with buchanon spokes for $125/Ea but tire changes would be a slow chore as to not scar up the rims. Powder Coating seems to be a more durable alternative. Any input from those bike owners in the gallery with the black hoops I drool over would be appreciated. My $$ would admittedly be better spent on the Akro slip-on or a performance mod.

Cheap Alternative Would Be A Rattle Can And Some Yellow Excel Stickers Off Ebay.
That Way You'd Have The Spare Cash To Get The Slip On

You boys on that side of the pond are always good for a smart *** comment. Taffy, its your turn. Any Aussies with a silver tongue?

I Was Serious,That Way If You Mark It Changing Tyres You Can Just Touch In As Necessary.
I Painted My Little TY80's Rims Black,Looked Good When It Was All White.
You Can Also Do An Aprillia And Do Half Black And Half Blue Or Yellow Or 1/4's

Okay, I misjudged your response. I'm used to Taffy's BS. If this was the way to go why spend the loot on Black excels laced to silver talons? Or are they rattle can specials with talon stickers on stock hubs? I figure a solid powder coat would be pretty bulletproof as long as the nipple holes are plugged well and they don't coat the bead so the tire will still seat in the rim. Off topic, what is the 2005 crank & crank mod all about? I have an 04.

In my experience in this area, durability and looks have are in synch with costs.

Factory anodized - most durable - highest cost
Aftermarket anodized - durable - still expensive
Powdercoat - fairly durable - reasonable cost
Rattle can - good enough for the Brits  - still too expensive relative to the quality

No matter which of the above you choose, the rims will get scratched up from tire changing and from riding in rocks, thorns, etc. Black rims are for MX bikes. Real men like 'em silver and scratched. :D

Munn Racing in Waco, TX has a special on a 21/18 set of black Dirt Star wheels. I think 549.00 for both. These are complete wheel sets assembled w/ hubs and spokes. They will will fit late model Husabergs as well as KTMs. I don't have anything to do with the shop, they are 350 miles from me, just passing some potentially good info along.

ive had black rims on me 501 (excels )for over 2 years they still look ok the edge near the tyre bead is down to alloy though , must say the tallon hubs didnt keep there nickel look for very long .. still nice to look even if they dont make the bike faster
regards steve

do like black rims but would never own a pair as evey set i've ever seen usually end up looking really rough within a season or two.

they are smart when new though

Nope They're The Real Deal,But I Didnt Pay For Them As the Came With the Bike.
It Was Orginally An FS Race/Pratice Bike That Got Converted To FE Spec To Use At Enduro Events When The Team Had No SM Races.
They Rebuilt It And Sold It.

The Painted TY Rims I Did When I was 14 And Not many Bike Had Black Rims.
My MX Riding Mates Were Shocked And Loved The Look,Guess That Makes Me The Orignal Trend Setter!!! 13 Years Before My Time.
