WE ARE TRYING TO GET SOME NUMBERS TOGETHER TO SEE IF ITS FEASABLE TO PRODUCE A 20 LITRE MAIN TANK FOR THE HUSABERG 2001-2008 WITH THE OPTION OF GETTING THE AUSTRALIAN MANUFACTURER TO BLOW OUT A LIMITED AMOUNT OF THE TANKS TO 25 LITRES DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS TO SUIT LONG DISTANCE EVENTS. IF YOU THINK ITS WHAT YOUR AFTER LEAVE YOUR THOUGHTS AND IT MIGHT BECOME REALITY.
THANKS ORANGEBERG

The 15L Clarke is fine for me, but I had to spend a lot of time with the heat gun to shape the front so I could maintain the stock steeering angles. I still hit the stops once in a while on tight trails, so I'd say keep this in mind on your design. Nice to see you fellows coming up with additional choices for these bikes.

I think th 15L is fine, if you need extra fuel you should use sidepanel tanks (plastic or Alum). Personally, I don´t like big and heavy tanks as main tanks such Acerbis KTM 22L specially in heavy sand and tight sections.

ORANGE,
Why don't you get a hold of Rick @ BOSS. He has already developed and marketed a 4 gallon big tank ( I don't know what that is in ltrs) Might save you some time ?

We can already get the clarke 15ltr tank over here and Orangeberg has these, but because of the distances between fuel locations in outback Australia and the style of racing/riding Orangeberg does Rally/Safari etc. you need the 25ltr(plus) main tank to be able to get anywhere out there. I am doing a ride from Broome in Western Australia to Sydney New South Wales which is 5700km cross country and we need a minimum range of 370km, if you look on a map you will see how remote Australia is in the middle, apoint of interest is Doctors in the central Australia use planes just to get from property to property!
Have a great day.
Best Regards

Great Idea sutto,
therre have been some awesome tanks shown on here just recently with regard to ralleye bikes, I dont see a need for one, but I applaud your eagerness to create one, Safariberg bay be able to assist in the process. from what I have read of BOSS' work on the 15L, if it were a joint effort with other dealers or maybe even Hbg Australia, with cost and sole rights to the resale of the product, it could become quite feasible.

Well done - we are seeing a bit of an increase in Berg popularity in the aussie bush in the last few years.

SUTTO. the design of this tank is directed mostly at the Australian Safari the riders who entered last year had to run the clarke tank, side tank plus a buddy tank on the rear guard to make it through the longer sections, this combination looked vulnerable on the bikes and im not a fan of buddy tanks stressing subframes and making your bike handle like a pig until you use some volume. I want to get a limited number of tanks blown to 25L and run the factory 3L sub tank for approx 28L which will suit the distance required for Safari and longer expeditions. But its obvious that a 20L will suit the mainstream customer which will be the base template. We need to get orders for 50 units to cover the costs its a big ask i know but between us we may be able to achieve it i have a possible 10 orders already. it doesnt help that the model is coming to the end of production but there are plenty of bikes out there.
you and i will have access to the new 570 2009 but im keeping my 2008 650 to do the longer rides on for years to come. call with any details

RE: Re: RE: BERG 20-25 LITRE TANKS

hey what can I say just a dumb a$$ seppo. kms, litres it's all greek to me. I do thank you for the education, now that I have learned my one new thing for the day I might as well go home. Good luck on the mega-tank sounds like a worthy project, I love innovation that comes from privateers and not the factory.

ORANGEBERG,
good luck getting a positive response from the manufacturer............I approached them prior to BOSS's tanks being available, and they just werent interested.

The numbers just arent there......especially given the fact BOSS's tank is now available and most would rather opt for that than a 25 litre behemoth.....

Good luck with it though, hope you get want you want.

yeah, there is likely to be a lot of people going towards the Boss tank, because it provides just enough extra range for normal trallies, but it would be a good opportunity to make a ralleye style tank, especially if it could be fitted with the front screen / shroud like the KTM ralleyes, to offer the option of a genuine long range enduro / safari berg.

its made by clarke's who do tanks for many other bikes so any dealer who deals with them should be able to order you one.

i do know that a few of the uk former dealers had a couple in stock

G'day Orangeberg,
What's the likely price on these tanks gonna be?
Will they affect the steering lock?
Do you have any design pictures?

Before the tank was designed by britt at clarke who is a master at getting a great
looking tank with all the functionality one would want do to his knowledge & skill as a
rider. He told me that price & time is a major factor when deciding what will be the
final product. That being said he mentioned that the berg would be a great candidate
for a design like the ktm 50 were the tank seat rear fender all could incorporate
fuel. Also while in that thought proses he said this open area in & around the shock
is also a great place to add volume .However time is not on there side so we have
what we have, but i did see a very nice idea for keeping weight low & width narrow!
Just thinking of his plan gets you thinking.

I have an old riding buddy who works for the Australian manufacturer and he designs the plastic tanks for their range, he is prepared to put in some of his own time to get our project off the ground i hope it works out,
I have another freind in my hometown who makes Aluminium fishing boats and he rides for free, i gave him a 550 Berg last year and this year he is riding a KTM 450 exc 08. In return he is building now for me a 25 litre tank in alloy and a headlight surround which incorporates a Route chart holder and ICO tripmeter we will market it after we get the prototype sorted we will have one of our riders running it at the Australian safari in August. Its a big project hope it works out for us. I like your idea about one big tank which incorporates the whole bike i will look into it.

Orangeberg,

Gili in Brazil produces custom plastic fuel tanks. A project incl. mold and everything will cost around US$10.000

I want one

be great to be able to just swap the piddly little 7.5L tank for a real big one in one go, no stuffing around with 3 or 4 tanks for big trips.

Regards

20-25L would be ideal for trips up to cape york and that sort of thing
15L isn't enough in heavy sand riding or high speed long distance
i'll take one if there reasonably priced
