A ride In the East

Airport pick up?

Lads,

I starting to re-think the logic of wasting a few hundred bucks on a rental car that is going to be parked all weekend. Is there any chance that someone might be able to pick me up at the airport in Charleston around 5pm on Thursday? Any volunteers will be properly compensated...Canuck style..whatever that means :D

the chief has spoken....

After talking to my brother this morning, it looks like "roughing it" and community quarters is out of the question for him. It seems that Moab taught him some valuable life lessons, one being that he's got to have real sleep to operate :)

So, what's the closest spot with creature comforts that we can crash at and still not miss out on the festivities?

I'm looking through trailheaven's list, but would like some inside information.

thanks,

Coffin,

I'll talk with BP & the crew but I'm sure we can pick you up on the way down. As BP stated we'll be in a 15 passenger van "Black Betty" with only six passengers. You might be stuck in the airport for a while though. I don't think we'll be passing through Charleston until 9 or 10pm.

schwim,

Did you check Browning Fork Trailhouses? That's the best spot. By no means is that "roughing it". Marty has luxurious double-wides that are fully equipped with all the amenities of home.(ie. full kitchens, baths, laundry, etc...) The Super 8 is about 45min - 1hr from Browning Fork where we will be Fri & Sat night. Look through the previous posts for Marty's contact info. If you tell him your with Brian Price he will take good care of you.

BP is pretty busy this week but I should be seeing him tonight.

Rob

thank you :)

Hi Rob,

thanks very much for the reply. I'm glad to have found out the distance from the motel! that'd be a tough drive pre-coffee ;)

I'll see what bro wants to do. Thanks also for the heads up concerning Browning fork. If we go with that, are we in good shape for being in close proximity?

thanks,

All of the following information can be found in previous posts by BP219.

We will arrive at the Super 8 Thursday night.

Friday morning we will rise, check out, consume, then head to Waterways Trailhead to ride.

Friday evening we will leave the trailhead, consume, and head to Gilbert, WV, where we (BP & gang) will be staying at Browning Fork Trailhouse & Jedi will be setting up camp 10 min. away at the Larry Jo Harless Community Center.

Saturday morning we will drive into town, consume, head back to the trailhouse, then ride the bikes from there directly onto the Rockhouse Trail system for the remainder of the day.

If we make it back Saturday evening, we will clean up at the trailhouse, head into town, consume, & do whatever we want for the remainder of the evening.

Sunday we rise, head into town, consume, return to trailhouse, clean up, head to another trailhead, ride, then head for home.

BP has one double-wide & the cabin reserved at Browning Fork. Altogether this will sleep 14 cramped. There are currently 10 spots taken by the NE Ohio crew & CT boys. Contact BP to get yourself a spot. Our van will also sleep three, if absolutely necessary.

A confirmed head count would be sweet if possible.

Any questions? Post 'em. Again, remember the previously posted 7 P's.

Thanks,
Rob

Coffin,

BP & I discussed the issue of picking up Canadian hitchhikers.

We will be driving by Akron/Canton Airport between 6:30 & 7:30pm Thursday night. If you could fly into that airport, around that time, it would be the absolute best. :D If you could fly into Akron/Canton earlier that day, BP has agreed to pick you up & you would just chill with him for the day until we assemble & leave around 6:00pm. :) Last, but not least, if you have to fly into Charleston, WV, we might could pick you up depending on where the airport is. :? Hence, please supply address.

Let us know, EH?

Sorry, couldn't help it.

Rob

Carefull, eh, you never know what kind of hosers you might pick up on the freeways, eh. But if you chill out with some Molson's and some Canadian backbacon, eh, maybe it will be alright.

huh, eh?

fryguy

enjoy yourselves, can't wait for the benchracing

Thanks

Thanks guys. Unfortunately, I already have my flight booked into Charleston. I'm sure I can find ways to amuse myself if I hang around and wait there for you :) I will confirm the address. I will wait and see if I can figure out other ways to get my carcus out of the airport and will let you know next week if I need a lift so we can figure out the logistics.

Fry....I really bummed that you or Dan can't come. I'm still hoping to go ride in the Rockies with you guys before or after you leave for the ISDE.

Cheers

gents

small change of plans - i nopw will need a place to stay as well, well, i guess six of us including coffin need a place to stay, although sometimes he doesnt require sleep.
40 footer is no longer option, truck is being used elsewhere and will be travelling with 16 footer instead. No worries, it will have as many bikes as i can get into it :).

I'll go back through the post and see what i can find. Couple cabins would be cool.

Cheers

Sleep?

I'll sleep when I'm dead....until then....I only need to focus on twisting my right wrist while grinding my teeth and muttering obscene words :D

Schwim...FryGuy says that you will have me laughing my skinny Canuck butt off...can't wait to meet you!!

Cheers

Skunk Tales

Hey Skunk,

The following is a true story that occurred 2 weeks ago.....It has nothing to do with dirt bikes..

Take my pregnant wide to the family cottage in Prince Edward Island for vacation.

Joined by 4 other couples and their 8 Million offspring.

Daily skunk sitings on the property...Mama & 6-8 babies

Talk to local farmer...He provides Skunk trap and tells me to let it go (if I get one) in the National Park which is 2 miles away from cottage

Catch Mama skunk and have delusions of being hunter of the century

Take skunk to park and open trap in middle of parking lot...run like hell when I open the door.

Stupid skunk won't leave trap even after pelting it with rocks

Decide to leave it alone and come back later to get trap

Return after 30 minutes and the trap is gone...skunk too :)

Go to Park Warden's office to see if they took trap. They confirmed they picked it up but I would have to come back the next day and get it

Go back next day and get raked over the coals by 2 pissed off wardens who want to make an example of me....Trap in park...felony 8O Trap in park with animal in it...felony times 2 8O

Pregnant wife gets out of truck and explains that we were "just trying to do the right thing"...letting it free in the park etc..

Escape without a ticket and return trap to farmer....

Point of this tale...absolutely none... :D

Coffin, is that all there is to do up there in Canada, trap skunks?? Wow, Canada must be fun! Went to school in Buffalo, and I KNOW the strip clubs in Canada are the best :sign10: :sign12: :drinking:

2 more weeks!!

-Parsko

Especially after reading that story, I'm glad I'm not going to be anywhere near you!!!!

Jedi, don't let Coffin drive your truck!!!!

Be good to my old girl 550, she's a real honey.

Honestly Coffin, you rock, between you and Json, there is no reason everyone of you guys shouldn't leave with the smell of a week old diaper from peeing yourself, I did after moab!!!!

Schwim, Coffin, LoudSkunk, Jedi...Earl ?

Sorry guys I didn't get back to you sooner, I'm on vacation for two weeks with the wife, my daughter and 11 nieces and nephews. I just might ride my bike with me on it off a WV mountain when I'm thru !

ROB; no Waterways (that's S.Charleston), Dingess Rum on Friday (Logan), Browning Fork on Saturday (Gilbert), and Buffalo Mountain on Sunday (Williamson/Matewan).

SCHWIM & JEDI; I've got 3 rooms reserved for Thursday night at the Super 8 in Logan , WV. That pretty much takes up all of our group and that's with us sleeping **** to make room for some others. Super 8 phone # is 304-752-8787, give'em a call to see if they have any rooms.
If they don't have anymore rooms ask the clerk about the Best Western( make sure it's in Logan and not Chapmanville) or anything else there in Logan. We will not be in Thursday night until between midnight and 1am. The Dingess Rum Trails (Bear Wallow Trailhead) is about 15 minutes from Logan.

***As of right now(July 22nd @ 1:38am est, Super 8 has 5 rooms left***-

Friday night we usually eat at Tops in Logan, a *****- tonk that serves great steaks, about $20 depending on what you get and your beer tab.
After dinner we'll drive to Gilbert (about 30-40 minutes) to stay at Browning Fork Trailhouse (we will stay Fri. & Sat. night). Right now I have a cabin and trailhouse #2 booked. The cabin sits RIGHT next to #2 and sleeps 4 comfy and 6 tight. We stayed in it Memorial Day Weekend with 6 of us. It has a bunk bed, 2 singles, and a pull-out sofa that sleeps 2 if you sleep ****.
Trailhouse #2 is a newer mobile home with 3 bedrooms (sleeps 6 comfy, 11 if we double-up and sleep **** with the double beds). One bedroom has a double and a single(sleeps 2...3 if sleeping ****). One bedroom has a double (sleeps 1 or 2 if sleeping ****). The 3rd bedroom has 2 singles (sleeps 2...if you are sleeping more than 2, then you are really ****). There is a pull-out sofa (sleeps 1-2) and then there are 2 roll-a-ways. #2 also has a full kitchen, TV, stereo, washer & dryer, grill, phone w/ free long distance, power washer .
When I booked at Browning Fork way-back-when ,the cabin and #2 was all that was left. Give Browning Fork a call at # 304-664-8211, 304-784-RIDE(cell), and see if anything has opened up. Ask for Marty or Lisa and tell them that Brian Price, the cop from Ohio, said to call.
There is also a roadside motel right in Gilbert called The Compton Inn # 304-664-2238, about 10 minutes from Browning Fork Trailhouses. Also check out the Hat/McCoy website www.trailsheaven.com for a list of motels/cabins/camping.

*** ROB (oneloudskunk); what about your pop-up camper that we could pitch at Browning Fork (Matry's) ? That'd be another four sleeping spaces !? ***

COFFIN; It's about 4 hours from our place to Charleston,WV. We are leaving at 6pm, that would mean we could pick you up about 10-11pm at the airport ? Give me a call 330-472-2402 !!! ? When are you flying back out ?

JEDI; Are you still going to have a bike for Earl (eman369) ? It doesn't look like his warranty/parts will be in effect by then. We need to get him a ride if at all possible, he did start the Ride-in-theEast !!!

Permits can be purchased right at the trailhead on Friday morning.

Most of this info has been posted in prior posts, so give it a scroll to find out more.

PLEASE, PLEASE give me a call on my cell as I will not be very available
reference having access to the internet and the 'berg website because of vacation.
Let me know what's going on reference lodging and how many are coming. I don't mind helping out at all, just need the proper info !!!

Brian (BP219) cell phone 330-472-2402

Lettuce ride !!!

Sleeping ****!?

Okay...hold the bus..."Sleeping ****"!!!! 8O   :( Man you if you guys keep talking like that I will:

A: Be wearing a tin pie plate in my shorts for protection

B: Be sleeping in Jedhi's trailer cuddled up with some smelly dirty Bergs. That way if any of you come for me there is a chance you will get distracted by the orfice in the exhaust system long enough for me to beat you with an Alpinestar and run. :D\

Brian....I will call you next week and let you know if I need a ride

Cheers

He always uses that term. We try to ignore it.

Pop-up is always available, but that eliminates the efficiency of the van. If someone ends up not being able to get a place to stay. Then let me know AS AN ABSOLUTE LAST MEASURE, & I will hitch it to the truck & bring it down.

DEFINITION:

"Sleeping ****" - Two men ASLEEP in the same bed.

As long as everyone just sleeps, this shouldn't be a problem. If in fact any of you happen to be "funny boys" you can sleep OUTSIDE in the dirt. I'm sure the locals will "love" you. Anyone seen Deliverance?

Every cabin website i go to has that banjo music playing. Not sure what i've got myself into.

I will have an extra bike for eman, and hopefully a couple others for you guys to rip around on.

jedi

Well, it's 1:40 am and I'm sitting in the lobby of the Comfort Inn in Hurricane,WV on the internet laughing aloud from all the **** comments ! Remember gentleman, this IS West Virginia !!! I'm here for a family reunion.

Schwim, I hear you will be in Ohio before the big ride ? Are you riding a race ?

Jedi, how's the lodging search going ? Do you need me to make some calls, etc. ?

Steve (Volovo Nut) , Are you and co. still coming to the big ride ?
