It's a 320 cc 2 stroke running on pure unmixed fuel. Yep it's true. Thus no smelly 2-smoke produced. This is possible since the crankcase is not used for induction at all but uses exactly the same lubrication method as the 4-stroke did. As on a conventional 2-stroke the piston is skirted so that it covers the exhaust port when the piston is at tdc, but unlike ordinary 2-strokes it is oil cooled from the crankcase side. The crankcase reed valve is unaltered and will still let the crankcase expel blow by and motor oil, without letting it back in. Induction is mainly, at medium to high revs, powered by the expansion chamber sucking in air inside the cylinder from each a reed cage at the sides of the cylinder in direct proximity to each sides ports. A third reed valve cage is at the center and this is the intake from the electrically powered composite roots blower that is in action at lower revs and is claimed to flatten the power band considerably, it is proportionally controlled by the efi. Unclear how the exhaust port is made to operate. Emissions are controlled by direct injection and by delaying injection until the exhaust port is fully closed the hydrocarbon emissions are kept under control. This is usually where conventional 2-strokes fail badly, losing unburnt fuel through the exhaust port. By rider choice every second cycle can be unselected so that it actually will run as a 4-stroke for those cases a mimicked smaller motor would be more beneficial. In a similar way, but automatically, the efi at low power low revs make sure the combustion is made more thorough at those times it chooses it to happen, unlike common 2-strokes where unclean running is more the rule at low revs low power. There is no unburnt fuel being emitted as the fuel injection won't inject for the unused cycles. Apart from that it's mainly the same motor as before. The 2-stroke is milder on parts and cases and they are thus now lightened. Variable compression and the hotbulb cylinder head for multi fuel (alcohol, canola oil or ester, polar bear lard, jet fuel) must wait until -09 as it was not fully sorted in time. The pulsed high energy radio frequency micro rail compressed cosmic ion gun ignition must wait too since the Russian who invented it has disappeared mysteriously and could therefore not finish the drawings. Good or bad, at least now there is no valve adjustment left to do. :wink:
