FS650 DOWNUNDER!

G'day from Sunny Australia.

Being new to the brand (I actually for for a Honda dealer) Im seeking some info on a FS650 that im seriously looking at buying. Im going to be using it as a road bike, but also possibly getting into my local supermoto club for some races etc.

Im seeking info on the 04 model FS650 in particular. i.e common problems, what to look for, service intervals and any feedback or advice you can give would be awesome

hello mate!

that's the first year of a heavily and better updated bike. it was given the kokusan ignition and the keihin carb. so they run really well. it's the last year of the 100 x 82 = 644 engine with the 32mm big end. it doesn't blow - don't worry about that BUT the crank is little more flexi so it's best to stick to ball mains. they went to a 35mm pin and that stiffened the whole crank up as well as reducing it to an 80mm stroke and thus 628cc.

running well, the 2004 engine is deemed a vintage year around here. several people wrecked their motors a few years back and blamed the engine. it transpired that with the correct bearings and tolerances: the 2004 was the best...

now, before i get accused of favouritism and 'being' nice to you i'm sorry but i've got to remonstrate a little and demand in a surly tone that you should read the bloody doc on the bloody left of the bloody screen!

I have this model had a few problem no major dramas. One valve spring broke at about 10000km replaced it with out taking head off with my special tool $35 each spring replaced both exhaust spring for safety the right hand one is the common side to break.Also had a leaky oil seal on water pump $80 fix with orangeberg weep hole seal and bearing kit. Seem a strong bike easy to work on (easier than most jap bikes) With lots of power and wheelies like no other bike i have ridden. Any questions message me good luck Glenn.

G'day OZ-Berg. The FS 650 is still one of the best tards to get around on, i have just come back from a ride through the local hills, would have been quicker if not for having so many Harleys and sports bikes in the way
