I know of no authority for a Canadian citizen to "sign for" a tourist." A citizen cannot waive the national laws or requirements for lawful entry. In America, a citizen can sign or guaranty civil obligations for registered aliens or applicants, but I have never heard of such a thing with regards to passports or criminal histories for tourist in Canada.

Go online and research the subject as their are plenty of web pages. You can also call the Canadian consulate or check their web page as well. If I have time I will try to keep looking as well and will post. Good luck.

At this time a valid passport is not required to travel between Canada and the U.S. if you are a citizen of one of these countries.Drivers lic or birth cert is good.
There are no tensions due to terrorism and/or economic sanctions between Canada and the U.S.(stop reading the Nat Enquirer)
The only concern Canada customs will have when a U.S. citizen brings a bike into Canada will be that it is not for sale and it leaves the country with the owner.
People with criminal records do not have free movement between the two countries,if one does happen to pass through a border they will not be tracked down and deported.
Insurance is not required on bike trailers anywhere!
Canada spends big $ promoting tourism in this country,primarily to americans.As long as that is the purpose of your trip you will have no worries.
There currently are no restrictions on mannequins in Canada,although I understand Coffins citizenship is under review

If you are flying to Canada from US, do bring a passport. I was not allowed on a flight resently due to not having a passport.

For the record...neither of my parents are French or from Newfoundland however we did own land in Quebec and I was born in Labrador City. I am sure though that I can direct some real newfies and french dudes to your post that may want to come vist you and share some Franco-Newfie love :twisted:

I occasionally deal with immigration lawyers. Until JUST recently, the buzz had been that both Canada and the U.S. were going to REQUIRE passports. That intended requirement has apparently been dropped within the last week or less because of tourism industry and border town uproar.

If you read my warnings carefully, you will see I was just trying to advise Bergs to check on the requirement before they travel and it is too late. ALL BERGS SHOULD CHECK THE LAWS AGAIN JUST BEFORE THEY TRAVEL.

As recently as two weeks ago I had read from very reliable immigration source and received legal blurbs from immigration law attorneys regarding the issue. I WAS JUST TRYING TO SAVE BERGS A BORDER SURPRISE OR TRAVEL SNAFU!!!

I love Canada and have vacationed there before. I like the scenery, the people and the beer. You bet your *** Canada wants U.S. tourists and their dollars. Americans who know anything should love to travel there. Ugly Americans can stay at home, I am sure.

NEVERTHELESS, if a Berg has prior criminal convictions, they are persona non-grata (inadmissible persons) AS A MATTER OF CANADIAN LAW and I have had clients "removed" Canada after it was found out they had prior convictions. One guy was actually taken off a cruise ship docked in Vancouver after the ran a background on the entire passenger manifest and his belongings left on board and brought home by his wife. He had only a ten year old DUI!!!

If you are pulled over by the Mounties for any reason and identified and they run a criminal history background check with the U.S. authorities, and they find you have certain criminal convictions, including DUI, they can and will deport you and I will bet you on that. Hi Jedi,
When I was writing that piece I asked my wife if she was asked for a passport on her recent trip to Boston(christmas).She assured me that it was not required or asked for. Maybe it is just an airline thing?

You got a firm date yet? I better get my passport ready. Since I blew it on the vacation to Pheonix I will have try and be careful before this trip. John is ready since I made a mess out of his vacation also.

That is one of the most depressing posts I have read on this site. I was really looking forward to having our UHE friends experience the amazing riding in the mountains of southern Alberta.

The saddest part is that I was actually relieved when I read it because there is so much happening this summer with the 2 WEC rounds and other must attend events that your ride was going to be a logistical nightmare for me.

Reality sucks sometimes. Don't feel bad Fry....I know you wanted to make this happen and I also know that you have way too much going on this year. The only good part is that I also know your schedule is filled with events that have you exposing the masses to the WWH...Wonderful World Of Husaberg

:cry: Sorry to hear Fryguy. It was a great idea and your heart was in the right place. It's easy to over extend ourselves especially during the summer which doesn't last all that long. I'm sure it wasn't easy for you to withdraw, but we understand. Maybe some other time. I'll bet the scenery and riding is spectacular north of the border, eh?

I was looking forward to meeting a special mannequin to, oh well.

we went through this what? three months ago? i instigated a thread urging everyone to plan a year ahead and build it up and build it up.

i've done a lot of this kind of stuff myself and i can assure you the best way to do it is to:

plan well ahead
create momentum
let it have a rolling mass of it's own.

that's why the first force ride was such a success - all the above applied!

please, please sit down and sort force ride 2007 now!!!!

as for fry, i appreciate your situation but have you any idea of the credibility/damage you have done? real shame fry. what i mean is - and in sincerety - that if you call another one now would it sound hollow?

good luck. hope this one can hang together but it now needs someone to step into the breach and take over the running FAST. VERYFAST!

fry, have you found a successer? after all it needs someone in AB to sort this out. if not - it's not just you that won't be going is it?

I thought I would make a post here regarding riding up north. I thought I mentiioned it a while back in this thread, but, after a review of the thread it's not here.

Anyway, I'm making plans on riding the Idaho city qualifier the first weekend of June. You can find info here, http://www.boiseridgeriders.org/

When I had mentioed this before, I had suggested that if a group of us went, we could try and get sequential numbers, with the possibility of all Husaberg's riding in sequential minutes, ie Husaberg train.

It looks like a tough event, but, it also looks to be a good deal of fun. If anyone is interested give me a shout.
