What's your journey that got you to your Husaberg?

I remember my first ride on a bike , was 6 yr old (1976), mate had a Honda 50cc , I asked for a go , he said ask your mother , she said no!, keep away from the motorbike. I went out and said she said it was ok to have a go.
As I sat on bike it took of out of control , after a few minutes screaming in terror , I was pulled from the bike , resulted in getting the end of the handle bar in the face , 4 stitches in top lip, from the doctor for that one!!!

Age 11 grandparents purchased us kids a Honda atc 70 1981 model.

First real bike was at age 17
1981 Honda XL 250 had for 3 years

1988 Honda XR600 had for a few years also, later on
1991 Honda XR600 another few good years of riding, tried a couple of local enduro and grass track races
1993 Honda XR630 (bothers bike) had a couple of grass track races and odd enduro, big fin head , 100mm forged piston, fmf headers and pipe, 41mm mikuni Flat side carb ,suspension reworked , higher compression (had to run on Avgas)

After quite some time away from bikes and relocating. Spoke to a guy who had a 2000 model FC600 ,(brand new) asked me to come out and have a go...after hearing my XR600 stories.

Well I had never seen a 4 stroke bike engine rev so fast , make so much power or get up and wheelie in deep loose sand , mind blowing. It just kept making power , so light weight. could not understand how such a small compact engine put out so much bang.

I had the biggest smile and didn't want to give it back, the guy laughed and said ,that was nothing , now have a go , he put the handle bar switch on high, it now made unforseen amounts of power and just free revved to the point where I thought it was going to blow up, and still made power...

That was it for me, I went out and bought the first near new FE600 2000 model kicker that I could find in 2001.It was a fast bike, was great to pass 2 stroke 250s by just short shifting with heaps left to give , it made plenty of power it would not get traction till 4th on hard ground. Well I remember on open ground ,top end with standard gearing would read 180kmh on the analogue speedo , at 140kmh it would come up into a wheelie without even popping the clutch!!! I hardly ever seen other husabergs , no one ever really new the bikes either ,though it was great, when you did see another husaberg rider they instantly become apart of your husaberg journey.

After a couple of year I sold the 600. there was bad vib getting around about reliability and not much positive , except they were fast.
I walked in bike shop a few year later seen a new 2004 FE550 , they just didn't sell quickly the bikes. I had a look at that model could see vast improvements on the older bike and bits were redesigned. Took a chance , against the odds , that bike come home with me.

I raced the 2004 550 enduro , open desert a couple of times and put about 200hrs on it, only replaced the follower and cam bearings as precaution. Tried to push the bike some, the harder you rode the better it handled .Sold that bike.

Searched for something else out on the market , nothing came close to it, so bought another second hand 2004 550FE. Rode that for many years , estimating putting about 500-600hrs on the bike. Turned out to be one of the most reliable fun bikes I have ever owned.

Sold that bike a few month back which brings me to just about the end of my Husaberg journey so far. I must have clocked up a combined 700-800 hours on various husabergs over a period of 14 years. Cant say I am any sort of mechanic on bikes, however I know one thing with certainty ,I am an enthusiastic rider of bikes.

Cheers,

Wow... well I guess I will just be a bit shy

1995 YZ 125 2 stroke

2008 Husaberg FE 550

Thats it...

125 could not carry my 215 lbs anymore

So go big or go home right?

This was really fun to read about everyones rides. I want a Husaberg badly!!!

Here is my list from the 60s and I am still riding to this day:
1966 Taco minibike that had a Briggs and Stratton 4 stroke and replaced it with
a McCulloch 2 stroke.

1970 Benelli 50cc 2-stroke mini trail bike with suspension then replaced it with
Kawasaki 120 engine.

1969 Basket case 120 Kawasaki that I restored, rode it 6 months then sold it.

1970 Hodaka 100 Super Rat then had Bobby Schaeffer did a port and polish on a
Webco larger finned cylinder using a 30mm Mikuni.

1972 Bultaco Alpina Trail/trials bike. Only visual changes were triple nickel coated
frame and candy apple red and yellow stripe.

1971 Suzuki TM400 Track Master nickel frame, custom rear disk brake, Added 1975 Yamaha. 250YZ first long stroke forks. Added Flywheel and street wiring for a plated dirtbike back in 1978. You all think the dual sport gig is something new?
I got tired of avoiding heliocopters searching for me in the canyons after I was
riding thru the streets of San Diego to get to dirt!

1986 YZ250 balanced blueprinted motor with Pro Circuit pipe.

1997 WR 250 favorite bike of all time! It has almost the low end torque of an Alpina but
hauls with it's 45HP. Al Holley RIP installed a long rod kit. Also JD Jetting
Keihin, Goldvalves ft/rear, YZ updated seat/tank ergos. But the real huge bonus
is that I got it street legal in Cal before it was illegal to convert dirtbikes. I
ride LABV, Death Valley the Sierras or where ever I damn well please to point
it!

2014 I wanted a Husaberg TE300 but it cannot get a plate and after riding the
last LABV, they had us on the highways way too much for a 2-stroke. I told the
KTM crew I want a 4-stroke for this event. They were trying to talk me out of it
saying that my WR is the best way to go. I say the tall gearing of a big thumper is
best for this event. I even went from 52 sproket down to a 49 tooth plus an inch taller MT Pirelli trials tire on it and it was still screaming at 75 (it topped out at 85)
My 450 and 500 KTM pals were loping along the highway at low RPMs.
I think this Husaberg 501 will be the one bike that needs no customization at
all. Maybe a Steering stabilizer? (Won't know until I ride it in the desert at
high speed)

Do you see a theme here ...Not leaving a bike alone?
Growing up with dirtbike mad scientists who were shade tree mechanics we just could
not leave anything stock. My best friend's dad was a motorcycle racer in the 50s
and so he and his sons wrenched on every neighbor kids bikes. John got a mechanics job during high school at RPM Cycle for John Hoy.
They called him Little John since there were 2 Johns. We would be his pit crew
when Big John raced at Ascot and we saw the start of Motocross there. Big John Hoy was racing against Flat Trackers Mert Lawill and Dave Aldana but Hoy hit the wall one night doing 80 in the corner. He has one shorter leg now but walks fine but it must have
awakened a comedy gene in his head because his shop was a show of belly laughs
and fun times. He would tell customers that their bikes were a POS and laugh at
them. Customers loved the heckling and came back for more. Big John is still making
custom bikes and repairs up in Carson City NV at Dr. Johns restorations and he
is in his 70s. I gotta see him to hear him cuss at me again!

So now I want to ride the blue and yellow Swedish colors to honor my dear Mom
who grew up in the "Minnesota Nice" State (Even though it really is an Austrian
pumpkin in disguise) It will be great to be on a 501 for the longer adventure
rides my buddy's plan.

Moto-Dave

Well for me it started in the early 80's
KX80 85
KX125 88
RM125 95
RM250 99(ex team factory Suzuki)
RM125 02-stolen
then I saw the light! and wanted to ride legally!
Enter the Berg!
FE450 09,
Haven't looked back since.

Started late but intended to make up for lost time...until I bought the berg!

1996 Kawasaki KDX200
2004 Husaberg FE450
Little detour...
2005 Suzuki RMZ250
1989 Honda CT110
2003 Honda CT110
2012 Husaberg FE570 (current)
2014 KTM 300EXC (current)

Got the best of both worlds at the moment, although a Ducati Hypermotard would look good in the stable, next to a trials bike!!

Started at 17 when I left home (was not allowed a bike while home) and had a few since;
1979 XR200
CR 480
XL500
XR500
XL500 (restored it then sold)
XR500 (restored it then stolen) .... I have a soft spot for the Honda 500's
DT200 to chase my kids with while they were learning
The best and last, my 2012 FE570 which was purchased new by me.

The 570 is the best bike I have ever ridden and my only issue is fuel range where I live. I have ridden many different bikes (swapping and comparing on the trails) and I think it will be a VERY cold day in hell when I own something else.

Vespa that never got started then at 21 got onto bikes.

(84?) TS250X
'88 Tenere
'86 XR250
'87 XR400
'8(?) Ducati Darmah
'79 HD Sportster
'58 HD Pan Chop
'81 HD FLH
'80 HD FXE
'58 HD FLH
'83 HD FXWG
'85 HD FXWH
'67 HD Chop
'81 HD FLH Heritage
'93 HD FXWG
'99 HD FXDX
'81 HD Sturgis

Then got back into dirt bikes

'11 WR250F

and currently

'64 HD FLH (bobbed)
'12 Triumph Tiger 800XC
'82 DR250
'14 TTR125

'13 FE350 :giggle:

Brings me to thinking that a 570 might be a great fit between the 350 and 800XC for shorter ADV rides.

Parents never let me have a moto, so when I was out of the house, I got started:

'86 Yamaha Radian 600
'87 Suzuki GS550E
'96 Harley Sportster 1200
-- took a long break and was into sports cars (Audi TT, BMW M3, Lotus Elise SC)
'08 Ducati Hypermotard 1100
'08 Ducati 848
'07 KTM 990 Adventure

Currently
'13 Triumph Tiger 800XC
'01 Honda XR400 (for sale)
'06 Husaberg FE450e

Now focused on dirt -- the Tiger for longer dirt (ADV) type rides and the plated 'berg for shorter trips.

fun thread!

i used all my hoarded lunch money and salary from sundays working at the vet to buy a 1976 CR 125 in 1979. sold it the same year after it broke and i couldn't afford to fix it.

no bikes (not counting shitass scooters) for the next 20 years. (HUGE ******).

2001 Ducati 748 (stolen)
2001 Ducati 784R (sold back to original owner in 2012)
2007 Aprilia 550 SXV (Sold to Fabio)
2007 Aprilia 450 SXV Van Den Bosche (team bike)
2007 KTM 450 EXC
2009 FE 450 (Colorado Plate)
2009 FE 570 (picking up next week)

Still have the last 4 bikes, the KTM resides in Colorado... I ride the VDB on the Sears Point track 3-4 times a month and the 'berg all over in the dirt season. The new one will get a longer range dual sport treatment for Baja, etc. this fall.

Guys please Help!

Any exhaust valve for fe 501 1998 at a reasonable price ?

Thank you!

You should get in touch with Dale Lineaweaver. The man's forgotten more about flat track than most people will ever know and he's a legend in modifying Husabergs. He's a member of the forum, but doesn't pop in very often anymore.

Lineaweaver Racing

Bultaco 125 Pursang, Old Honda street bike?, 1992 RM250, XR250, CRF250X, CRF450X - FE570 - hope to own this one a long time, the main reason I ride the other bikes I own, can't stand the thought of wearing out the Husaberg!

Honda MTX80 - German model I managed to convince my parents to let me buy in high school for 900 Deutsche Mark (before the Euro)
Honda Trail 90

KX250
Several sport bikes
Husaberg FE550

A buddy has a FE570 and that's what got me looking at Bergs - I wanted a no-compromise machine and the 550 came along at a great price. Awesome enduro bike!!
