there is a very real chance that i've been sold a pup. the headers are 29-29.5mm on the exit of the tailpipe and 32mm up where they enter the head.

so could it be that you measured at the head end and not the end that enters the middle section? easy enough mistake but something that i must now clear before ve shoot ze germans!

Have I got to step in and put you right, yet again

The stock header pipe diameter goes as such:

At the exhaust port is it a short piece of tube of 35mm o/d with approx. 1.4mm wall thickness (give or take) (it may be 1.7mm thick but that's not important).

This is then welded to the exhaust flange and to the exhaust flange is a 32.2mm o/d piece of tube that has an approx. 1.2mm wall thickness. This varies slightly due to "cheap" manufacturing processes where the diameter will vary slightly through the bends etc.

What I will say with regards to power output is that when you get to 33-35mm diameter header tubes, this has very little overall effect of peak power output but variation in the tube diameter is extremely useful in order to tune the low and mid-range outputs. This based upon testing variations of the "OEM" exhaust design.

Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Simon

well simon i don't think you've sorted anything because all the dimensions are in the post above yours... i put them there.

it would appear that you had a set of headers you could have checked a long while ago. i did ask three times.

however as the old saying goes; "it's very easy to be wise after the event".

Taffy, so that you know I just shot an email in French to that Belgium (not French, correction) outfit/SM team, Fesial, that runs Doma pipes on their bikes.

Doma being Belgian, I am not surprised they'd test out their pipes with a domestic team.

It is a very good brand, as you know.

I'm glad your hindsight is as it should be, 20/20 :D

Glad to have been of service.

thanks nick

hope something comes from it. i've been offered the enduro guts for a pipe if i can find the (MX) pipe. not really wanting to buy pipes i simply want to borrow them. i'm sure that people appreciate the expense of it all.

i'm a little confused over the akropovic set-up. 650 only i was lead to believe...

i'll chase pipes when i can.

i did some several tests on my husaberg 2004 650on our dyno bench.
std -with FP config - and my current DOMA system.

after this I changes my cilinderhead and did the same tests.

Overall winner was the DOMA Exh for me.

A lot of bottom power and mid.
Top HP is 61,5SAE HP or 63DIN HP both on the backwheel. The biggest adventage is that the power rolls out very fast related to time measurement.

I also bought larger exhaust valves from Dale,so this is the next step, after this I have a 470 piston ,so I can raise the compression a bit more.
But I am not totally sure of this piston mod, because they are people who say it is dangerous.
I get the measurements from Dale, when I checked this I will decide.(1mm deck and 1,5 from valve contact).
After all the bike works as for now very fine to me,so I hope I can handle the latest mods.
The only problem I had with this bike was headsheaking at high speed with rain tyre in the front. After a view arrangements the problem is solved.

scoot has the same violent headshaking with a rain tyre (i think?) front so you're not alone. however yet again we have changed the subject to 650 pipes and not 400 or 450's which is where we came in i believe!

thanks anyway :D :D
