DON'T POST IMAGES TAKEN WITH A CAMERA ON A MOBILE OR CAMERA WITH GPS
Just a quick warning to everyone on a potential cause of stolen bikes. A friend had 2 stolen recently from his garage and we have been trying to figure out how they knew they were there. I then remembered a report about a year ago that said photos contain location information, especially when taken from a mobile phone or a GPS enabled camera (which are becoming more common).
5 minutes of research, one website later and 10 minutes of hunting on the UK KTM forum and I found a nice photo of a £5K bike with all the data needed. I now had a Google satellite image of the location of the house. I called the person selling it to warn them; they were clearly shocked but did say that fortunately the bike was kept in a safe place as the garage was part of the house. At that point, I said "yes, I know - that is the right side, single story of the house" as the satellite image had an arrow pointing at it where the photo was taken!! He was now doubly shocked.
My suggestion would be to not post images of your lovely bike at your home using a mobile phone camera or a GPS enabled camera. Hopefully that will help stop you being the next victim like my friend.
