Hmmm
Dellorto 40 on my FE 501 ...
In in effort to soften the power from zero revvs, i finally got round to fileing the mouth of my throttle slide.
To be fair it seems a bit better, but is now not running right.
Obviously i increased the air jet - twice actually and am currently at 52 !!
It accellerates realy well, doesn't pop or anything. The problem is, it's now unsteady at constant revvs.
With so little time on my hands just lately ....
Do you agree raising the needle will help, as it's currently dropped down to the bottom ?

uneven throttle often means a rich condition yet what you have done should have leaned it off. what i don't follow - so tell me - is did it run uneven and THEN you went up twice to a 52 PJ OR did it run with this stutter straight after your work?

if the latter then look forward to an easy result and simply go down one or two PJs back to 48 or 45.

try to get the bottom right by setting your idle and air screw everytime you do work. finally with the bottom better - raise that needle.

good luck.

BTW
can't tell you how much better the forks are even in the last two tests ady....

Hi Taffy
After fileing it, 35 PJ sucking it like mad, so 40, still sucking it but ok on choke, therefore my next size i had was 52
And doing the symptoms i described before.
As it's not far off - i will try raising the needle 2 higher.
Out drinking Friday nite, riding Sat .... working till 8.00 tommorrow (sorry today) so not much time ...
all good fun
Cheers, bud - glad your getting on with your forks

If you really want to "soften the bottom end power" on a 501 and help the low speed driveability, Install a 38 Dellorto from a 400. Will loose some power up top though. If you want to do this I can dig up the records of when I converted mine and get you the final jetting for 400 feet altitude.

give me your address again and i'll send you some jets and stuff. use what you need and then return with the ones you use replaced (please!)
