Tsubaki HD cam chains???

This may have been covered previously, but...

Has anyone ever looked into utilizing a Tsubaki HD cam chain on the Berg's? I'm still trying to track down some information on the specs. of the chains that are offered to see if there is an equivelent application available. ie. same pitch, and roller width and diameter.

Hi Powerfiend,
In 2000 I developed a long rod 426 engine. In the process I researched many cam chain options as I was in need of a half link drive. In my search I found nothing that proved to be of any better quality than that of the early OEM chain and as a matter of fact the half link friendly chain I ended up using was noticeably lighter than that of the OEM unit.

Sincerely,
Dale

Ps
In any event I have yet to experience a chain failure on any of the cam drives.

i think the problem is the unbelievable speed at which the OEM chain wears out. as we both know: the chain knackers the sprocket and the sprocket then knackers the chain! i have a hardened steel sprocket. it is unbelievably hard metal (i told you of the slotted bolt holes) yet the chain was shot very quickly.

could you give powerfeind an idea of which model the HD camchain came from? a package number?

things must work differently over here because mick said "you really want" NOW I'M GETTING REALLY TECHNICAL HERE SO SEE IF YOU CAN ALL FOLLOW "an earlier camchain, they're HD". no part numbers, no model years.

CHAIN.

If I recall correct the same type of chain is used in the old Maico's I ride. But in this case they supply the drive between the clutch and crank. The Tsubaki number for this chain was RF 06 B-1(size being 3/8 X 7/32"), I had them made to length to fit the Maico. The rollers are of the non split type and untill now I have no problem with them. The original supplier was Iwis and I think they also are mounted in Husaberg and KTM these days. I thought they also mounted Regina for some time, not sure though.

Hi Taffy,
Sorry as I do not have a Tsubaki part number. I will have a closer look and see if I may retrieve a bit more information regarding suitable HD replacements.
Regards,
Dale

I would even be happy with one that performed on par with the older Berg chain, just with a cheaper price. I see the Tsubaki chains running less than $25 US.

Note: Dale was kind enough to supply me with a part number in another post. The part number for the old chain is 200-045-02 (200-045-03 should work also), they both need to be cut to fit. ie. To many chain links.

HD cam chain

Does the cam chain have a "master link"? If not, are you guys pressing these back together? Thanks, BD

I order them "endless" for the Maico but this can't be done on a Husaberg engine. Usually you can get a rivet link with it.

The way I understand it the older chains have a master link, and the new ones are riveted. Either can be ordered, they carry a part number in the parts manual.

ok, some of you couldn't find this out for yourselves so here is

regina chain number is C121 HCS/001

that is all.

I'm fitting a Renold chain to my FC470 sourced from BSL in the UK part code 110038PITCH:REN with 63 pitches and rivet link 110038-NO107. Chain is £0.14 per pitch and link is £0.35 totalling £9.17+VAT. Of course the longer stroke engines need more links

If any body is interested, in a previous life as a Purchasing Manager for a petro-chemical company, I negotiated a group purchasing deal with BSL that is available to this list that saves a lot of money on bearings, seals etc. BSL are a major distributor of power transmission products in the UK.

If anybody has an interest in this, post to this thread and I'll post a dedicated thread. :D

Thanks for the part number and manufacturer information guys.

Keith,
Talk to Schwim about the bearings and chains, the Husaberg store he is starting may be a good place for them.

...Also, anyone know who makes the chain labeled with an M and a 3 within the M? That is the one I got when ordering the old chain.

there is absolutely nothing cheaper here in the UK than the states.

i'll eat my hat if there is!

nor in Europe :( We price checked our top fifty products with our German colleagues and even after taking 24% off our costs, they were still 30% more expensive. Still, BSL prices are 20% cheaper than importer and that includes crank pressure seals :D All bearings are Europe manufactured SKF, not SCB or ***** Cheap Bearings Inc

Like I said before, if anybody UK side wants this, then say so.

HTH and contribute with no expectation

I could really go off on one here as rip off britain is alive and kicking and really grips my ****, but I'd rather save my energy for something for personally gratifying  I'm just trying to operate as best I can within the constraints of our island nation

ok, alcuni di voi non sono riusciti a scoprirlo da soli, quindi eccolo qui

Il numero di catena Regina è C121 HCS/001

questo è tutto.

Taffy
Hi Taffy, Is there a reason why you don't sell REGINA chains?

I have one of each CC here but never advertise them. The IWIS is a engine chain. it has a split link. I'm not sure the Regina has a split link, I'm not sure if it is engine or industrial chain.
I never thought the ones I used lasted that long. But I'm not so sure nowadays....
