Clovis, CA USA!
Json i was wondering, Would it be possible to post topo maps of riding areas that people submit in the download section? I can do any area in high detail of the pacific western US; CA, NV, oregon, washington, AL, and HI I have limited scale on the rest of the U.S.

well, not exactly, if you check out the post about the ride in nevada i put some images there. i can generate topos from the states listed via the program Topo USA. I just though some pople would want access to some. they usually do not have ohv trails such as single track but they do have most of the fire roads and main trails.

for instance here is one of my favorite riding areas. Deer creek/crandall peak area

Cool program! If I could zoom in a little more I could tell which drainages we will be going through. Is it compatable with mapsource? I hope you really have a good handel on this stuff and you can edumacate me on it when you come over! My goal is to be able to create track logs that I can email to someone to share a ride. We do many long ones here in N Nevada that would be fun but if you don't know the area you would have a hard time following it since quite a bit of the trail is not really a trail but connecting washes. I think a track log is the way to go. I have used ones that somebody else made but have not made my own yet. Yea another thing I was going to learn but haven't gotten to yet. Work is the curse of the drinking class!

Oh ya it can zoom in. It can make it look like you are standing on the ground. it also has some cool 3D capabilities and will download the maps and route you make into various gps devices. it is made by Delorme it is called TOPO USA you can get any topo map that has been mapped by the USGS. the western pacific region ran me 45 bucks but when you are planning pack trips for scouts it comes in very handy and it was well worth it.

I do not have a GPS that is going to be my b-day present from the wife this summer. maybe i will get one before i come out and we cam play around with it.

edit just checked it out and the price went up to $99 8O

Sir, if you're asking if you can post them in the downloads section, sure you can. Just submit it, and I'll create a category for it(use any category until it's created).

If that wasn't what you were speaking of, could you clarify?

thanks,
json

okay, i will submit a few tomorrow. they when they are full size they are fairly large 3-4 meg is that okay? does anyone have any requests from the pacific coast states and nevada? I wish the CD i had took in utah, AZ and CO but that is on a different CD.

that size is fine sir. I'll move them to their own category once their uploaded.

thanks,
json

Oh well curious to see what the Sycamore Creek area would look like, especially around Sugarloaf Mountain: N 33.696 W 111.530 :)

Very interested!

Sorry Lefrog my Topos don't cover that far east.

Below is an out line of my topo coverage areas. anything east of the orange lines are on an other CD that i do not have. I also have full coverage of Alaska and Hawaii.

I can zoom in as close as this:

Or i can add your GPS data and create exact routes like this one that is created from data logged GPS coordinates:
