The UHE would be better if(your input needed)

Thanks Jason,

I was pleasantly surprised to see the who's on line list this evening. There is no courage, honor, or authenticity in anonymity, so there is really no reason to see them anyway. I believe you once had suspected that anonymous users were data miners or spammers trying to see what was going on here or something like that.

Keep up the good work sir!

Dale

the number of anonymous is good for no more than a relative gauge of the site's level of activity. Due to spiders, bots, scrapers, etc., the number has absolutely no value other than that.

A lot of time, the geek in us gets the better of the situation and bells and whistles are thrown in that not only don't matter to the average user, they cloud up the scenery and make it more confusing. I'm trying to balance features with clarity and lack of bloat.

I did just notice that while in the chat room, it shows my time in EST instead of PCT like I have set up in my profile.

schwim

The old site used to have the downloads section. I had copied most of the articles from there, except I have now lost some improtant docs.

It would be great to see the items back again,

Especially the 08 publications.

Check the first post for the list of stuff to be replaced/added. It's already there :)

thanks,
json

:puke: I'd love to have a part number cross reference, and a link to dealer web sites, maybe even something for vendor links. Just my 2 cents...

The date/time column in the list of last posts does not show time in local time - e.g., for me it is not in PDT - it is two hours ahead of me.

I'm currently working on an update for the latest post block that provides a link to the first unread post(not just the last post). I'll see what I can do about adding the extra math of the time offsets into it.

As for the chat system, it's an independent system that's been integrated to use the forum's login data. I doubt I'll be able to disassemble the flash applet enough to make the changes that would be necessary to get it to show the time in your offset. I've written it down nonetheless.

I have a tough time clearing all the PMs I get. I get about 4 a day so in a blink I'm over the 100. I have several containing facts and figures that one day I'll get around to collating so when I have a clearout I have to be meticulous yet still get the job done.

I can't see the delete button
also is there any chance that as you delete that it would move to the next message (as opposed to the inbox) after you deleted that one. would i be right in saying that most people have a clear-out all in one go and this would be a great time saving device.

last time, if i ticked to delete and then checked the next message: the box had un-deleted itself so they all had to be checked and deleted individually.

that will be all

regards

Taffy

HI Taffy,

In your inbox, if you go to the lower right corner you can mark all, or unmark all, then use the drop down box just above it to "delete all marked", then click the "go" box and then they will all be deleted. Or you can move the marked ones to your saved messages for the ones you really want to save.

Hope this helps,

Dale

Json,

I don't know if this is possible or not with this new system, but, I always liked the members map with the location pin. Is that possible?

Dale

I really like the idea of restoring the membermap, but would like a better integration as the original system was really easy for the members to overlook. Unfortunately the system that we were using was designed by a couple of people that don't dig free(as in speech) and explicitly prohibit any changes to the code in their software license so I would have to either find another system that I can modify to use with the forum or write one on my own.

And we see how quick I am at writing my own(hey, the classifieds are coming soon, I promise!) :)

Thanks Json, whatever you come up with will be fine. I had always liked the member map, it was just cool to see where everyone was at. Just b/c you're paranoid doesn't mean someone isn't after you :D

Json, what about a little tick box as you reply to a post with 3 simple options? :D :D

* This is correct end of story.
* I have no idea but I reckon this answer is correct.
* I have been drinking so don't take this post to heart or trust it for accuracy.

It could help us all understand a few posts that don't make sense.

Actually, I've thought about this, but have expanded the idea. After all, you don't want the poster having complete control over how it gets tagged do you?

So, I've decided to build smart system that will learn from a members' posts and tag them appropriately and apply properties to the post text, much in the way downvoted text gets hidden on blogs. It's been on in the background learning for about three months now and it seems to have come close to being able to go live. Here's some of the latest flags it's applied to the users:

Taffy: Advertisement sprinkled with derision
Text Decoration: Flashing multicolored text with all words being linked to his site.

Example: I'd say you're a hobknocker and you need to purchase my jetting kit.

Bushmechanic: Over your head
Text Decoration: Font size will be reduced to -20, making the text tiny and the post impossible to read to save space, since you're probably not going to be able to wrap your head around it anyway.

Example: You need to take the left-handed smoke sifter and attach it to the flux capacitor, thereby creating a rip in the time-space continuum and effectively allowing your Berg to travel through time.

Schwim: Of no consequence
Text Decoration: Font color will be changed to match the background color of the post box, effectively making the post invisible.

Example:

There's more in the database, but I've not yet implemented "tone it the hell down" feature, that softens the blow for the target of the system. Currently you have to have really tough skin to handle the psychological impact of being auto-moderated like this.

thanks,
json

:D :D :D

Except Json if we can't read your posts there won't be as many good jokes

calling people hobknockers is still funny but doesn't do much for mental excersise

I spose i could learn how to spell instead

Hey Json, great work on the new addition to the front page, it's handy knowing which posts have had a reply after I have read them.
Regards,
Dave.

Thank you very much sir for suggesting it.

I think it's finally working as intended now. I had some issues getting the kinks worked out so if you find something that isn't working as intended, please let me know and I'll sort it out.

thanks,
json

'waterloo sunset' was very easy to understand Json?

I'd have thought 'Sunny afternoon' was right up your street?

if Ray Davies had been better looking they'd have been the Beetles with an 'E'.

regards

Taffy
