45-50Nm works for the std fiber gasket, I think it will take a bit more to seal
a copper one.

Copper gasket technology has been around a long time and mainly used
with iron heads and iron blocks which use much higher toque figures, a typical
iron v8 may use around 120Nm.

Cool measuring machine

Just had to make a short video! My machinist (Mossbergs Mekaniska) has a very cool and handy measuring machine! Besides measuring very accurately in 3D, things that are very difficult to measure normally (comparing to a CAD-file and creating a protocol) it can export the measurements to a CAD-file! That means you can put the left side of a crankcase on the table and get all crucial positions and measurements exported to a CAD-file. Based on that file you can then create you own 3D-model. For more more accurate and higher stressed designs, that is still better than a 3D-scanner and printer!

CMM awesome!

spanner i used 110N.m on the jbs fine pitch head studs with a copper gasket, liner was 0.1mm above the cases, made small grooves to fill with threebond 1207b for water and oil sealing

no water or oil leaks but combustion pressure still leaked out

it may have worked with a wire ring in top of the liner but IMHO its not worth bothering with a full copper gasket on a big bore or RST engine .. its easier to make the composite ones

That should be fine Dr C.

Would be interesting to know how much the aluminium deflects when the bolts are torqued up, I suspect the liner would get pushed down flush.

Still think a little extra torque would help.:)

The copper gasket spray is supposed to work the best. Permatex 80697

Thanks for the input guys!
I bolted the 0,5mm copper gasket with Loctite 3020 on both sides, to 60Nm. It passed 1,5 bar leak test with water, so next step is a test start! Wonder if those Cometic gaskets are delivered with a donkey that cannot swim...

The donkey turned up eventually!

I'm feeling lazy...

Seems to work, only issue is getting everything in position particularly the copper ring so it is in the correct spot and not slightly askew and hanging over the cylinder bore(just in case you get a little rod stretch at high rpm). Gaskasinch(sp) or some gasket glue of some sort will do.

I hope it works, I want to see your BEAST running without issue. Wish I had a little bit of your machining skill/experience and the bitchen set of tools to do the things you do. Way beyond my wheel house.

Get that thing BRRRRAAAAAAAAPPPPPPIN now why don't ya.

I have a photo-interested friend who came over and turned my garage into a photostudio!

Very nice DrC, so did the head gasket seal alright?

When mounting the engine in the frame, I hurt my back. More specific it felt like getting stabbed straight into my left buttock. I have not been able to move myself around decently, until now, so test start is still to come. Hopefully this weekend. I also lost a dear friend in a motorcycle crash last weekend, so the motivation, among other things, has been low. :-(

Life sucks then you die. But try to have as much fun as you can in between. Not trying to be funny. For your back next time lay your engine on it's side on the floor then lay the bike over the engine mount it pickup bike. Seen this on TV.

These events remind us about appreciating what we got, enjoy every moment of life and treasure it as it was the last.

Sorry, but that will not work with this frame/engine. Engine needs to be sunk down in the frame from the top, angled 90 deg backwards.

Anywho, thanks for trying to help!
