TE250 head modification...WOW!!!

Recently I ordered the SX high compression head for my new 2012 Husaberg TE250 after being somewhat disappointed with the lack of power and torque, at least at my altitude. I’m accustomed to riding a Gasgas 300 that has head and carb mods to improve performance.
I measured the compression at 145 psi at my 5000 foot elevation on the stock XC head. I decided to purchase the SX head for the easy bump in power the new head would provide. When it arrived I measured the squish band at .063”. Knowing there was room for improvement in power and efficiency to both heads, I sent them off to Trey at Wildcat Motorworks for the heads to be shaved. There are others that perform this valuable service as well. Trey was very good with communication and gave me the improvement I was looking for. Plus, the price was very affordable!
I got the SX head back and measured the compression at 195 psi at 5000 feet. A big difference! I can still run on premium unleaded fuel and tested this down to 3000 feet elevation in the high desert. I jetted to suit the changes (NEDH needle #3, 40 pilot, 162 main). While I haven’t had the opportunity to do much testing at this point, I can say I was pretty blown away at how hard this engine was pulling with the new and modified SX head. I might actually prefer the modified stock XC head for when I'm not feeling as racy or when traction is compromised. Time and testing will tell. I no longer yearn for the 300cc engine.
I’m eager to do more testing and to put the stock XC head on to determine how different it will respond compared with the SX head as well as testing at different elevations. I wholeheartedly agree with others that say this is the best “bang for the buck” improvement you can make to your two stroke motorcycle. I haven’t even messed with the powervalve adjustments at this point. There is room for further improvement with some minor adjustments to the powervalve and jetting.

I’m loving this bike! :bounce3:
